Introducing The Rachel Roy Beauty: Eye Palette

Rachel Roy Beauty Eye Palette

Rachel Roy recently a group of beauty editors and bloggers to come down to her showroom and enjoy an enchanting evening of tasty treats, mini makeovers, hand massages, and a jewelry bar, all while introducing us to her latest venture and first foray into the beauty world, the Rachel Roy Eye Palette, a 10 shadow, two-brush palette, split into warm day and cool night colors with varying textures from shimmery to satin.

Rachel Roy Mini Makeover!

Rachel, who continues to be one of the sweetest, most approachable people I’ve ever met in the fashion industry took the time to tell us about her views on beauty and makeup, and aging gracefully. We learned that Rachel started her obsession with makeup at a young age, and was greatly inspired by a strong smoky eye, which she saw with much prevalence among the women on her father’s side of the family, combined with the colorful sari’s in which they dress. While applying makeup to one of the attendees, Rachel revealed to us that she does her own makeup, both every day and for events, and she uses many of the same beauty products you and I may find on our own shelves like, Dove soap, Nars lip color, Estee Lauder Turbolash mascara.

Night Look

The palette includes QR codes on the back which lead users to the Rachel Roy website for video tutorials on creating her signature, beautiful day and night looks that will compliment any complexion. The Rachel Roy Eye Palette hits Macy’s stores today, November 14th, and retails for $32.

MISS NYFW: Backstage With Shiseido at United Bamboo S/S 2012

Dick Page demonstrates his technique

I had the opportunity to check out the backstage action at United Bamboo and talk to Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page about the look he created for the runway.

As usual with United Bamboo, Dick Page went for a simplified ladylike look with a greenish gold lid and a clean shimmering face that is easy to replicate at home. He used the following Shiseido products:

  • Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Patina
  • Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar
  • Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black
  • Perfect Mascara Full Definition Mascara in Black
  • Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Tawny

Dick started by applying a light moisturizer to a clean face. A little bit of foundation was used to even up the skin tone and to clear up any redness or blemishes, but the face was left otherwise clean. To prep the eyelid, a fluff brush was used to add a little bit of translucent powder to dry the upper eyelid and create an even base. Again, using a fluff brush Shiseido Shimmering Eye Color in Patina was applied to the eyelid from the lash line to just beyond the crease, making sure to apply plenty of color to the lash line.  The color was diffused and spread evenly on the eyelid toward the brow. Using a smaller fluff brush, color was also applied to the lower lash line, spread evenly as well, to ensure there were no harsh lines or shadows. Dick then applied Accentuating Cream Eyeliner in Black to the upper lid, with most of the color weighted toward the outer end of the eye. Dick recommends using a small soft lip brush to properly apply cream eyeliner.  Taking a new fluff brush, Dick applied the Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Caviar over the cream liner and the Patina color and blended toward the brow into the crease to create a slight curved “banana shape.” Eyeliner was applied to the lower eyeline, followed by another light application of the Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Patina over the eyeliner.

Models line up for dress rehearsal

On the lips, using a fluff brush, Dick applied the Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Tawny. To ensure a softened look, the lip color was diffused using his fingertips to create an almost nude lip.

No color was used on the cheeks.

Nails Did: Borghese Nail Care ‘Rapido Fast Dry’ Collection

Borghese Nail Care Rapido Fast Dry Nail Lacquer Collection

As a girl on the go, I often have issues when it comes to getting my nail color changed and fully dry. On my club nights I try to rush and change my nails according to my outfit, but I always end up smudging my nail polish right before jetting out the door. Well no more! Borghese Nail Care heard my prayers and came up with a quick-dry polish formula. Not only do these twelve colors dry in a jiffy, but they also include a nail strengthening agent and Aqua di Vita complex to retain moisture. Color, moisture, and fast drying? Count me in!

Maraschino, Lira, & Rosso

The Rapido Fast Dry collection has you covered in the time department for sure. Unfortunately, sometimes fast-dry means fast wear. Nope. Not in this case. Borghese made these hues with longevity too! One application with the Duale Curve Tip brush (custom designed to follow the curve of your nail) and your decorated hands and feet are set for up to seven days! At $8 a bottle , these polishes are a steal.

Vigneto, Violetto, & Anemone

My absolute favorite part about these polishes is the fact the company kept it authentic. Each polish has an Italian inspired name since this is an Italian brand. For example, ‘marino’ means marine and ‘vigneto’ means vineyard. Now you can get your learn on while polishing your nails. Who knows? Your cute nails and choppy Italian may be enough to land you a guido. I know I’ve got my eye on that Pauly D!

Chroma, Menta, & Marino

Apparently Borghese Nail Care was founded by Princess Marcella Borghese of Italy. The aristocratic family had its own special formula for cosmetics that included fruits, flowers, herbs, and other natural ingredients. The cosmetic company still sticks to those natural additives despite their global presence. Plus, they’re big 3 free. You can pick up these polishes at major retailers such as CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and Ulta.
