Louis, Louis: Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse Skateboard Get Radical!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Speaking of practicality, how about this LV x Stephen Sprouse Skatedeck? Talk about “kick-pushing” in style! As part of the much anticipated LV x Sprouse collection, this beauty could be yours for a drop-in-the-bucket price of $8, 250. This piece along with the collection in its entirety will be available at the SoHo boutique on Thursday. The complete worldwide launch will follow on Feb. 2, though the Rose pieces will be available at Louis Vuitton stores worldwide starting Friday. This limited edition piece along with a limited edition Rose t-shirt will only be available at the SoHo location for the launch. Here’s what LV has to say:

The company hopes to sell three graffiti skateboards with trunks for $8,250 each, and 70 T-shirts for $250 each. “I don’t expect them to last very long,” Lalonde said. “By Friday, there probably won’t be any more left.”

If you are lucky enough to be in NYC make-sure to stop by the SoHo store to peep it’s transformation into a Stephen Sprouse wonderland! Complete with an interior and exterior bombed in neon spray paint, this is surely to be eye-candy not to miss. Proceeds from the sales of the Sprouse Collection will go to a worthy cause:

Sales will benefit Free Arts NYC, which provides under served children throughout New York City with special arts programs. Vuitton is also making an undisclosed donation to the Sprouse Estate, as well as the Stephen Sprouse Memorial Scholarship Fund at the National Academy for Design here (New York).

I’m hoping that LV teamed up with a reputable skateborad manufacture to produce these decks…although I doubt that those wheels will ever hit the pavement, for authenticity’s sake it would be nice to know. Nobody likes a poser. So, if you have pockets deep like Kanye or Pherrell (which I could see two of the three decks going to the likes of these gentlemen), then by all means, do it!! This deck would look so good next to my Chanel basketball *sigh*

Gettin’ Funky with Funky Fanny’s

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

I manage to make it out to BK while on my monthly NYC visit…I don’t know why that seems like a task to me, I know it’s not really that far. But when there’s vintage involved, there is no distance too far, rain, sleet or snow, I am there! ATWG teamed up with BK’s vintage vixen, Serci aka Funky Fanny’s to throw a little vintage sale extravaganza at the Pillow Cafe. Radio Rose provided the soundtrack for the night (I know I’ve said that before but that IS what she does!) and the ladies shopped! My connection to Serci goes back a couple of years ago. While on the hunt in Las Vegas we crossed paths at Savers, the thrift department store. If was the friendliest of encounters, believe me there is plenty of the goods to go around. We chatted briefly and that was that, until this event. Happy to be reconnected!

Serci aka The Funky Fanny and her homegirl.

See more funky fanny’s and the vintage after the jump!

The NYC FILA “Melrose” Launch Party With Nina Sky

Monday, December 15th, 2008

On my most recent trip to NYC I managed to get out and about and hit up the FILA launch party for their “Melrose” sneaker. This MissBehave sponsored event had the people lined up down the block…in the rain. Big thanks to Christine from MissBehave, good looking out lady! Radio Rose held things down and provided a most excellent soundtrack for the night. All the ladies where in the house this night…ATWG, Female Sneakerfiend, Highsnobette, Bubblegum Pony and Erin from MadeMe. And of course Nina Sky. These ladies do the damn thing! More beautiful in person they held the crowd at attention as they preformed…they even got the people to “put your hands up in the air”. Um, I was busy videoing, so I opted to not “put my hands up” but enjoyed the evening nonetheless.

The Melrose in action!

See more picts, nails did and videos of the ladies of Nina Sky doing the damn thing…including their version of the Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams”, sooooo hot!

“Seduction” at the Museum at FIT

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

The Museum at FIT’s newest special exhibition, “Seduction,” explores the history of the expression of sexuality through dress.  With pieces spanning 1785 to the present, “sexiness,” is a relative term considering the flappers of 1920 were scandolous for showing their ankles.  FIT took pieces from their permanent collection to curate the show with pieces ranging from an open bodice gown from 1785 to a Playboy bunny suit. Designs by Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa, Peter Som, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein and Costume National are included in the exhibition. “The complex relationship between seduction and dress will present visitors with a history of fashion as well as that of sexuality, moral standards, and social norms.” I think this is a really interesting theme - let’s face it, humans have been dealing with sexuality since the beginning of time.  It will be cool to see how the concept of sexuality has influcened the way we dress.  “Seduction” runs through June 16, 2009.
