Ears to the Street: Lace

Once upon a time this peek-a-boo material was used strictly for ladies’ unmentionables. Now, lace has gone from the pages of Victoria’s Secret to the runways of New York Fashion Week. Multiple designers have embraced lace;  it’s readily accessible and easily wearable whether it’s on a top, shoes, or accessories. I am personally a fan of this particular trend and completely smitten with the sex appeal a little lace can add to an outfit.

Designers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Chanel, and Burberry were bitten by the lace bug. Their Fall ready-to-wear collections have a collage of lace tops, dresses, and skirts. I remember when lace came in standard black - not anymore. Burberry’s Fall 2010 fashion show featured a vivid blue lace button down. Loves it! Of all the designer creations for the season, Tracy Reese has the most innovative lace idea by far. The models in her show rocked lace nail decorations. Can you say sex kitten?

Before this Fall’s trend, we’ve seen lace used mostly on lingerie and nightwear. Sure, we want to be sexy for our guy. That’s a given. What about the single ladies looking to snag a new boo? We don’t have a boy toy to model our see-through undie sets for. We need a little sparkle for our everyday looks!

Lace began to enter everyday wear in the form of leggings. Retailers such as Urban Outfitters were the go to stores for non-bedroom lace wear. Now, there are ample uses for once sultry fabric. Completely lace tops have to be my favorite! They allow the wearer to adjust the sexy. You can pair a lace top with a fitted pant and some steamy booties for day or a tight pencil or mini with a daring pair of pumps for night. Lace socks are always a nice touch as well. One of the other big trends for Fall 2010 is wearing socks with pumps. Why not combine the two looks for a double whammy of high fashion? For our more straight laced ladies, a blazer is the way to go. By allowing the neck and bottom of your lace top to say hello to the world, you keep your conservative appearance while still letting onlookers know you have a fun side.

If you’re not a fan of showing a little skin, you always have the option to feature lace on accessories. Bags, pumps, gloves, and even phone covers are available in flirty lace prints. Ladies, whether you like to turn up the sexy or just have a little fashion fun lace is the way to go! As this Fall trend shows you should embrace the lace!

M.I.S.S. Techcessories: Case-Mate’s “I Make My Case” Allows You To Do Just That

The choice is yours

The choice is yours

The flood of do-it-yourself customized iPhone case applications continues with Case-Mate’s new “I Make My Case” online design tool.  Similar in concept to Uncommon’s custom cases but slightly different in execution, “I Make My Case” allows you to create a custom case by remixing pre-designed illustrations from world renowned graphic artists including Anthony Yankovic, Nigel Dennis, and Shadow Chen.  The design process is dead simple.  Simply choose a background color, drag and drop various graphic elements on top of it, and then apply a wide range of effects on top of that.  Once you’re satisfied with your design you can download it or share it with your friends via Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr.

Each customized case will run you $40, or if you’re extra lazy and don’t feel like putting in the time or the effort you can order a pre-made for #35.  I was lucky enough to design one myself, and seeing as how I can’t really keep it look for it to be given away in an upcoming M.I.S.S. contest.  Stay tuned!

Uncommon iPhone Cases - The First Fully Custombizale iPhone Cases

We provide the canvas.  You provide the inspiration.  That is the motto behind Uncommon, a new company that lets you make your own highly professional and customizable iPhone cases.  Uncommon has brought together a diverse group of underground and professional artists that have uploaded their artwork to the Uncommon site to be used on your very own, one of a kind, iPhone case.  In fact, the cases above were designed by M.I.S.S.’s own editor-in-chief Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee.  Uncommon uses a fancy pants  process called 3D TATT™ (Thermo-Active Transdermal Technology) that transfers the ink deep into the cases surface and ensure that artwork won’t rub off or fade.  Don’t like what you see?  Join Uncommon and upload your own artwork.  Since your art is uploaded for everyone else to see as well, if it sells you get a %5 commission on the transaction.  Think of it as the Threadless of the iPhone case world.
