Kara Laricks’ collection is exactly what you would get if you were making clothing for all of the characters in the comic Archie. The lapels would be wide and colorful, the 1970’s wedges would be paired with socks in primary colors, and in some instances, Betty and Veronica would be wearing Reggie’s clothes.
The menswear influences in Kara Laricks’ collection are unmistakable and unapologetic, right down to the androgynous model in the presentation’s invitation. Laricks is the season one winner of the show Fashion Star, and her offering on September 9th at Pier 57 was the very first presentation by the LES designer.
Laricks executes feminine formalwear well. She incorporated re-imagined, deconstructed menswear into her line by way of untied bowties, shorts with a train, and a romper finished with a pocket square. Despite having a few great looks, some of her dresses seemed so simply cut that they fell flat in comparison with the well-crafted suit-based pieces.
Favorite items in the S/S 2013 presentation were the tux tail romper, the cummerbund pant, the illusion collars, and the vibrant orange hosiery.
