7 reasons to keep your eyes on the Colette store!

Colette has a bevy of gorgeous goods about to hit the eshop, ready for us to snap up. We have chosen a few of our favourite things for you to keep your eyes on upon their release;

With each shade named after a different airport code, USLU Airlines nail polish is made to apply smoothly, fill the nail surface, hold well and dry quickly. The glittery goodness that is USLU’s LAS (Las Vegas Airport) polish quickly caught our eye. Perfect for a splash of colour in this cold winter us Aussies are enduring here in the southern hemisphere.

Shoes, shoes, who doesn’t love shoes? Originally made for ballerinas, french brand Repetto has continued making shoes to appeal to the masses since their first launch in 1947. Their simple and dainty designs are a perfect option for those who have some spare cash to put down on great quality shoes. Colette is featuring various styles to indulge in - our favourites are the Python Ballerina shoes which come in three different colours.

The Lacoste and Zaha Hadid collaboration is one of a kind - ergonomically designed to adapt to the shape of one’s body and crafted in italian calf leather, this shoe comes in both purple and black. These shoes are also a limited edition run exclusive to Colette, with only 850 pairs made in the world.
Tabitha Simmons is also about to release her new collection in the Colette shop, the line features a balanced mix of opened-toed, wedged, stiletto-ed goodness with each pair crafted in leather and exotic skins.

Comme Des Garçons have created a crocodile/python print baby pink leather bag exclusively for Colette - this gorgeous piece is limited edition and they have only made 30 copies, so if you love it, grab it now!

For the more eco-conscious, beautiful model Liya Kebede has launched her own line of  scarves made of 100% cotton. All scarves are manufactured in Ethiopia, Liya’s native country, so upon purchase of one of the gorgeous LemLem pieces you can take pride in the fact that your money is being used to drive economy and create jobs in a third world country.

Australian company Zip Zip has created a very cute building brick USB key. It’s a piece of lego with a USB stick inside!Rejoice! A practical, funny little 8GB gift.

Ladies, save your pennies and spend well in the Colette store. Just ‘browsing’ the store for this article has loaded my cart with 7 items already..

Chanel Sponsors Tribeca Film Art Awards

Gabrielle Chanel is known for supporting the arts.  Her close circle of friends included Stravinsky, Picasso and Diaghilev - some of the most creative and talented minds of the time.  So, it should come as no surprise that the house of Chanel still cultivates the arts.  Last year, Chanel announced the Mobile Art Container by Zaha Hadid.  Unfortunately, the project came to a halt but Chanel’s support of the arts continues.  This year, Chanel is sponsoring the Tribeca Film Art Awards.

Each year, the Tribeca Film Festival asks 10 New York-based artists to create original works - each piece serves as a filmmaker prize, awarded to the Festival’s winning film directors.  During the festival, the original works are on display to the public.  The 10 artists selected are Fritz Chesnut, SunTek Chung, Stephen Hannock, Kalp Linzy, Robert Mangold, Sr., Clofford Ross, David Salle, Tom Slaughter, Hank Willis Thomas, and Mickalene Thomas.

The Art Awards are on display at the Chanel Soho Boutique until April 29th.

M.I.S.S. VEGAS 02.09: Melissa Shoes at Project

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Three Straps Elevated

If you’ve visited M.I.S.S. before, you probably know that we are huge fans of Melissa Plastic Dreams. Famous for their partnership with Vivienne Westwood, Melissa has brought on more guest designers, brought back some oldies but goodies, and expanded its own in line product offering. In a first for Melissa, they’ve produced a collection of bedazzled shoes by J. Maskrey. The sparkly collection includes four bejeweled styles - each offered in two color ways. The crystals are Swarovski and it’s the first line of jeweled footwear Melissa has ever offered.

Melissa is continuing its partnership with Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and offering new versions of the Lady Dragon - this time, instead of big red hearts, the Lady Dragon boasts a large double bow. They are adorable (in a grown up lady sort of way)! I’m slightly partial to the bow because the styles with bows are available as heels or flats AND one of the color options is tortoise shell - I LOVE! The minute I laid eyes on them I decided that I had to have them (I think that a lot but I really meant it this time!) The VWA collection also included a new version of the Mary Jane III in glittery plastic in a rainbow assortment of colors. For those a fan of gladiator shoes, the 3-strap gladiator sandal is back in a range of eye-catching colors. One of the standouts is the VWA elevated 3-strap - a take on the ever popular covered platform toe box with 3 straps - a bit gladiator, a little Mary Jane and a dash of fetish thrown in. This sexy style is available in a gorgeous array of metallic jewel tones. Finally, the VWA collection also included the Ultragirl II ballet flat in a gorgeous matte black and some flocked versions as well.

Melissa Ankle Bootie

Other amazing collaborations include more Alexander Herchovitch “Jazz’ shoes (a style called Joy) - a continuation of the ever-popular style from last season but updated in jewel-toned flocking and plastic styles. Zaha Hadid, the woman best known for her design of the Chanel Mobile Art Container, has an otherworldly style that is an exciting new take on a women’s heeled sandal. Another favorite was brought back from the archive - a style designed by none other than designer of all things, Karim Rashid. Finally, Doc Dog had a cute wedged style complete with ankle strap.

The collaborations are some of Melissa’s best products but their in-line collection has improved a great deal - it seems like they are taking heed of the benefit of working with some of the best designers out there. My favorite was the high-heeled bootie - available in flocked and plastic styles - the plastic version is THE perfect wintertime heel.  It looks great AND you don’t have to worry about how the elements will wear on them!

Zaha Hadid: Belly Up To The Bar

The ingenious architect behind the Chanel Mobile Art Museum recently designed a bar, lounge and reception desk for Home House, a members-only club in London.  Her futuristic, “space-age” pieces are in contrast to the Georgian-styled 18th Century Home House.  To see the pieces up close and personal you’ll need to receive an invitation from a member and pay over $2,000 in membership fees.  We’ve got you covered, if you want to see the pieces look below.

Chanel Mobile Art Exhibit - Tickets Available Now!

A few months back we gave you a glimpse of the Chanel Mobile Art exhibit in Tokyo, Japan.  The next stop on the trip around the world is stateside in Central Park, New York City, from October 20 - November 9.  If you’re in NYC, or plan to be during that time, this exhibit should be at the top of your “to do” list.  The structure, designed by Zaha Hadid is a work of art in and of itself, and then there are the treasures inside - all inspired by the iconic Chanel quilted purse.  You can see some of the pictures of what to expect inside here.  Tickets are available now and advanced purchase is highly recommended.  You can purchase tickets here.

“Transformer” - Prada’s Cultural Events Exhibition Space

Luxury brands have had a long-standing relationship with the arts whether its Louis Vuitton debuting goods designed by Takashi Murakami in a museum (LA & Brooklyn), or Chanel’s Mobile Art Pavillion designed by Zaha Hadid. Prada has always shown an interest in architecture - their boutiques are designed by leading architects and are often works of art themselves. Prada is taking its interest one step further by commissioning Rem Koolhaas to design a tetrahedron structure that will host cultural, art and fashion events that Prada organizes.

The Transformer can be rotated on each side depending on the event, with four different facades and floor plate configurations, so that floors become walls and walls become the ceiling. Each of the four programs will function on unique steel-framed shapes: a hexagon, a cross, a rectangle and a circle.

The transformer will debut in Seoul, Korea next year and will host events from March to July 2009. This is quite an amazing project and I hope that the Transformer makes it’s way stateside.

Chanel Mobile Art Museum

chanel mobile art

A few months back, we told you about Chanel’s Mobile Art Museum, a traveling pavillion made to house art exhibits, and we’re excited to say that last week it touched down in Tokyo, Japan.  The museum houses original works paying homage to the iconic Chanel quilted purse and includes works by:  Blue Noses, Daniel Buren, David Leventhal, Fabrice Hyber, Leandro Erlich, Lee Bul, Loris Cecchini, Michael Lin, Nobuyoshi Araki, Pierre &  Gilles, Sophie Calle, Soju Tao, Stephen Shore, Subodh Gupta, Sylvie Fleury,  Tabaimo, Wim Delvoye, Yang Fudong, Yoko Ono, and Y. Z. Kami.   The most important work of the show however is the actual museum designed by Zaha Hadid.  The museum looks like it’s touched down from outer space and is very curvy, and features a loop design.  It’s the first travelling museum of its kind.  Future stops for the museum include New York, London, Moscow and Paris.  If you are in one of these cities, or are close to one, this is a definite must see!
