Ahh the little black dress. We’ve all heard of it, the wardrobe piece that every woman must have in her closet. Well now it’s been translated into a spring/summer staple for sittin’ pretty on the beach. Top sportswear brand Hurley and top Israeli fashion model Bar Rafaeli joined together to create The Little Black Bikini, a classic triangle bra top with a low riding tie side bikini bottom.

Says Bar about the Little Black Bikini, ”For years I’ve searched for a classic, sexy black bikini with just the right cut. I’ve tried a lot of bikinis, and never been able to find the perfect one - until now.” That’s nice of Bar to share! The Little Black Bikini is a limited edition offering that will be available on Hurley’s online shop May 1st, 2009 and at select stockists worldwide. Come June 2nd, 2009 the Little Black Bikini will also be available at Victoria’s Secret stores throughout the U.S.

The bikini retails for $120 with part of the proceeds going towards Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC). B4BC is a non-profit foundation focused on youth education, awareness and fundraising for breast cancer. The foundation’s mission is “to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of an active lifestyle.” So, not only will you feel empowered by being confident enough to wear the Little Black Bikini, but your purchase will support a foundation that empowers others with information to stay aware of and manage the effects of breast cancer.

This year for Mother’s Day get creative with your gift and enter to win the ultimate mother daughter getaway to New York City. While in NY for fashion week, I visited the Victoria’s Secret Suite at the Bryant Park Hotel. When I arrived, I was greeted by a Victoria’s Secret PR representative who walked me through the current Fall ‘08 and upcoming Holiday collections. Victoria’s Secret lingerie tends to cater to mainstream mall tastes and can be a bit “frou frou.” No longer! I was happy and excited to find that the new collections were focusing on a sophisticated, romantic sex-appeal - one that is more fashion forward and finds its influences from fashion trends.

In a time when supermodels are on more magazine covers for their cocaine scandals and assault charges, Alek Wek needs to be celebrated. What better day to highlight this inspiring woman than today—International Women’s Day!

Alek, a Sudanese refugee, recently founded a non-profit organization called, W.E.K. or Working to Educate Kids and last year she released an autobiography entitled Alek documenting her journey from a childhood of poverty in Sudan to the catwalks of Europe. Yea, she’s that awesome.
