Playing with the Queen of hearts…wardrobe, that is, certainly shouldn’t hurt! With today’s much anticipated release of  Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland”, we look towards Mad Hatters, (The) Mock Turtles and Queens of Hearts for style inspiration. The fantastical world of Wonderland offers up vibrant colors and whimsical shapes and patterns. From affordable finds from the Uniqlo x Disney Collection to pieces that might be a dip in the “rabbit hole”, like a Judith Leiber novelty purse,  you can incorporate Rose Garden looks without looking like an extra from the set.

Here are looks and accessories that pay homage to Alice and The Queen of Hearts. The seasons bold blue finds it way into apparel and footwear and hearts are never out of fashion. Ruffled hosiery from Baroque and play your cards right with an adorable bracelet from Tatty Devine. You’ll be looking sharp from any tea party. Sorry, no mock turtle(necks) here.

Eyes To The Sky, Ears To The Streets: The Hotness & The Hot Mess 2009

2009 proved to be a wild ride for most. With the economy in a state of craze, the “Recessionista”  was born and fashion savvy ladies were challenged to get creative and spend wise, perhaps looking towards one of the million high-low collaborations that launched this year or going green with vintage. We welcomed new style icons from lady-like First Lady Obama to the polar opposite goo-goo get-ups of Lady GaGa. Ed Hardy continued to bring shame to the House of Swarovski (crystals) while our favorite no-pants-wearing New Yorker Kerin Rose dazzled us with bling-blam-BONG! eye wear and her line, A-morir, bedazzling done proper. Green became the new grey in the world of nails diding and Minx made the Midas touch a reality. Gals all over the globe went TKO for OTK boots and the motorcycle jacket secured it’s place as a fashion staple. Why Linsay Lohan was appointed Artistic Advisor of anything, namely Ungaro, is beyond me. And let’s PLEASE leave “Jeggings” in 2009.

What will you take forth in 2010 and what will you leave behind?

Jil Sander UNIQLO Spring/Summer 2010: Launch date CONFIRMED

UNIQLO Spring/Summer 2010

UNIQLO Spring/Summer 2010

Huge news ladies and gents! Jil Sander has teamed up with Japanese powerhouse UNIQLO for their Spring/Summer 2010 collection.  This would be the second round for the duo, and this collection will not disappoint.  Spring/Summer 2010 is set to release: Thursday, January 14th 2010, with two other drop dates throughout the SS10 season. Collection is Available at: UNIQLO SoHo, 546 Broadway, NY. Another amazing feature is that pieces can be yours at very affordable prices. Outerwear/Coats & Jackets – $49.50 – $149.50, Bottoms -$39.50-$59.50, Shirts – $39.50, Dresses – $49.50-$99.50,  Cut &Sewn – $10.50-$49.50 and Knitwear from $29.50-$129.50.

If these pieces are this great, I cannot wait to see what the other two releases will look like.  The following bit of info is straight for the horse’s mouth on the collaboration:

The season introduces fresh perspectives on volume, teamed with perfect harmony in fiber, color, optics, and touch. Experimentation is essential, but subtle, leading to new interplays of material and motion.
Iconic simplicity – Leaving sporty stereotypes behind,  endorses functional elegance, dynamic textiles, and distinctive shapes.  Softly articulated, silhouettes give free reign to movement and ease.  Fabrics are straightforward, expertly woven, alluringly sculptured, neat and subtle.  Initiating marriages of convenience between structure and fluidity, delicacy and determination, coupling strong characters for the common good.
Natural nobilityThe collection quietly bridges the emotional and the formal, femininity and masculinity, experience and evolution.  Luxury lies in inspiration and discreet perfectionism, applied to truly modern tailoring.  Environmental concerns move to the heart of research, engaging in clothing that is both responsible and innovative.
Clarity and Lightness – Opting for the precision of airy colors, white and pure ivory feature as the radiant center of energy and confidence.  Pastel hues, pearly reflections, and chalked out acids create luminous lightness.  Waterproof textiles become more feminine, made of ultra-fine cotton, tech-satins and sumptuous wools with an overwhelming impression of liquidity.
And they couldn’t be more right!

Mirror, Mirror: Bird Flu Photography Show at Space Gallery

Mirror, Mirror - Uniqlo White Button Down Shirt & Black Ben Sherman Tie

Mirror, Mirror - Uniqlo White Button Down Shirt & Black Ben Sherman Tie

A few weeks ago I went to the Bird Flu Show at Space Gallery to support one of my favorite photographers, Amanda Lopez. On that particular night, I wanted to get a little dressed, but also wanted to keep it casual. I’ve also been wanting to go for a more professional, “grown” look, hence the tie. I definitely like the way this outfit turned out, and I’m putting it online reluctantly as I will be sporting this outfit (or variations of it) pretty frequently. Here’s what I wore from top to bottom…

Earrings: Tahitian Pearl Earrings, Macys (over 50% off – they have great sales!)
Shirt: White Button Down Shirt, Uniqlo
Neckwear: Ben Sherman Black Tie
Tie Clip: Faux Chanel earring, Thailand
Jacket: Black Leather Bomber, Keednim
Handbag: Louis Vuitton, Speedy 25
Bracelet: Louis Vuitton
Pants: H&M Divided Black Trousers
Sneakers: Leather Converse Chuck Taylor Highs

Opening Ceremony for Pendleton & Uniqlo

Opening Ceremony is working on some highly anticipated projects this year! Check ‘em:

First the beloved NY boutique is set to create a 23 piece collection for the outdoor heritage brand Pendleton. Pendelton fans will be happy to hear that Opening Ceremony is likely to include the Pendleton staple patterns of Navajo and plaid. The collection will be made in the good ol’ US of A and is hitting stores this August—just in time for Winter ‘09!

The second project for the boutique comes a little sooner. Pairing up with Uniqlo, Opening Ceremony is hitting the good people of the world with plaid shirts, utilitarian jackets and some simple, yet cool, trousers. This collection hits stores March 9th.

Mirror, Mirror: Vans Sydnicate Exhibition in SF

vintage vans

The Lady G and I ventured out to the Vans Syndicate Exhibition in SF a week ago-ish (peep some par-tay action here). Seeing as it was a Vans event, I had to bust a move and rock some of the “Original Goods”. Nope these aren’t some rare-limited-hyper-tier0-color-way, these are just as I mentioned “Original Goods” circa the early, early 80’s. Peep the entire fit after the jump.
