Chanel has Shanghai on the brain for 2010. First there was the Chanel Shanghai boutique opening, then there was the Chanel Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall 2010 Paris-Shanghai collection. We know Coco Chanel was infatuated with Shanghai and would have loved to have traveled there. But I wonder if that was the only inspiration for the Chanel Shanghai collection – could it be that it was timed to coincide with the upcoming World’s Fair Expo in Shanghai in May, 2010. Whatever the reason, the accessories are amazing!

After the success of the Chanel Paris-Moscou Matryoshka doll purse, Uncle Karl has created a similar purse for the Shanghai collection. The matching drop earrings are adorable – I wonder if he used these little ladies on any other accessories? Lagerfeld also reinterpreted the classic 2.55 bag with large sequined palletes in red and jade.

My other favorite bag is Chanel’s rendition of the classic takeout box – with leather chain strap and all! The Chanel cuff is also especially beautiful and is reminiscent of Chinese pottery and vases.

This is just a little glimpse into the details of the collection and I can’t wait to see more!

The Glamorous Life: Lily and Karl are Back at it Again!

Earlier this summer singer Lily Allen made her debut as Chanel’s newest face. She channeled Audrey Hepburn while Karl Lagerfeld shot her and Chanel’s amazing Coco Cocoon bags. Now, thanks to the Daily Mail, we get a sneak peek at Lily playing dress up for Uncle Karl again, this time going for a sexier look that features a mop of messy hair and a vamp red lip.

These images are more in line with the sweet and saucy Lily that we’ve all come to know and love via her two hit albums and countless paparazzi shots.  That’s the Lily that Karl handpicked for this campaign despite the fact that she admits to being very aware that she is “5 ft 2 in and a size 12” and uncomfortable modeling. However, with her affinity for Chanel bags and her fiery personality it’s no wonder Lagerfeld, who describes her as fun, chose her.

With her new found status as muse, it seems as Karl’s influence has rubbed off since Lily is taking a spin in the designing chair herself.  She has already done her own line of clothes for British label New Look and just recently launched a line of jewelry called Lily Allen of course.

Like most of you, I am eagerly awaiting the official release of Lily’s new Chanel Coco Cocoon ads. I have to see if she once again rose to the occasion and did Karl proud. I’m sure she did, because we all know Karl Lagerfeld would have it no other way.

Chanel “5″ Euro Cuffs

Back in November we gushed about the Chanel 5 Euro Coin made to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Gabrielle Chanel’s birth.  If you didn’t get your Euro, this Spring, Uncle Karl is releasing cuffs – accessories that Mademoiselle herself used to wear, with the gold coins embedded in them.   If he’s got these up his sleeve (pun intended), I can’t wait to see what other “coin” pieces he has.  Please, please have bracelets and belts with dangling coins galore ala vintage 80s Chanel!!
