The highly anticipated arrival of the Topshop SoHo flagship is now expected to fall somewhere around mid-November—instead of mid-October as originally hoped—but just in time for Holiday shopping!
If you’re getting antsy, the U.K.-based chain will launch a U.S.-dollar version of its website tomorrow, September 9th. The site debut will also be the global launch of Topshop’s fall Kate Moss collection, her seventh for the store.

People cannot get enough of Kate Moss. Her face is emblazoned on many a t-shirt and she’s been the face of a number of companies including David Yurman, Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and YSL, along with having her own line at Topshop and her own fragrance. This fall she will also be the face of Donna Karan’s Fall 2008 collection which brings to life “the glamour of the Orient Express.” The campaign was shot in LA’s beautiful, historic Union Street station and is about “the woman on the go.” I think Kate Moss is a beautiful style icon but I wonder if consumers will ever get tired of her, or can distinguish between the products she promotes? At what point is it confusing for consumers to see the same face repping everything from Topshop to YSL? Is there any confusion of brands, messages and styles? Does this generation need a new icon/role model that is more than just a pretty face?

A rendering of Topshop’s first U.S. store, to open in Manhattan in September.Topshop has announced its first news to step foot into the US back in 2006 and there has been continuous rumors on where the first location will land. According to WWD, Topshop’s first Manhattan store will be at 478 Broadway in SoHo, which is currently Yellow Rat Bastard. Topshop’s owner, Sir Philip Green has an option to take a 9,500-square-foot space on the building’s top floor to use as his U.S. office and said further store openings in America are likely to come sooner rather than later. Expect the first Topshop/Topman unit in September, he is planning two more Manhattan stores, as well as flagships on the West Coast, and other units in cities including Las Vegas, Miami and Boston.
The new Topshop stores in the U.S. will be a minimum of 20,000 square feet and they all will be flagships. “I don’t want hundreds of little stores in the U.S. They all have to make economic sense, he said. The Broadway flagship will cover 40,000 square feet over three floors — basement, ground floor and first floor — and Green said he’s hoping to preserve the “spirit of the brand’s iconic Oxford Circus flagship. Green said he and his team are mulling the design for the Broadway store, but there likely will be a spiral staircase in addition to escalators, and customers in the basement will be able to view the two upper floors. He also has no plans to advertise in the U.S. as of yet, although there likely will be two or three events next year to mark the flagship’s opening.

Almost a year ago, I’ve reported that Topshop is looking to expand in the Big Apple…till this day it has not opened yet. According to WWD, the owner of Topshop, Philip Green is planning to open not ONE but THREE Topshop units in Manhattan, with the first likely to open within nine months! He is said to be looking for space on Madison, Lexington and Fifth Avenues and in Midtown. He is also expected to open a New York office to support the expansion, as well as units on the West Coast. I hope there will be one in Soho also. Watch out the Brisith are coming! More info forthcoming…stay tuned, I am just as excited!

It seems like every week we hear about a new designer collaboration, perhaps if you’re not collaborating with another brand you’re not kewl? Well, I absolutely love crossovers because the price points are always lower and it has a very special effect, ideas/creations can be broader and it is def fresh. I’ve just learned that COMME des GARCONS did a crossover with Speedo to create a womens and mens swimwear collection. I think this is a great collection for the athletes, I don’t personally wear one piece bathing suits but the designs are simple and on point. I especially like the stripe one piece, if you want to buy it now, Topshop is carrying it. May be a clothing collab is up next? Who knows…check out the mens collection here .
