Toofly’s New Street Tag T-Shirt

If any of our NY local blog readers were lucky enough to hit up the “Something for the Ladies” event at Valley NYC, you probably got a peek at Toofly’s new street tag t-shirt. The rest of the world can buy one now exclusively at Toofly’s online shop.

Women Making History: Kerri of Good Wood NYC

Women Making History: Kerri of Good Wood NYC

When Biggie said, “Spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way…, Kerri O’Connell took note and created Good Wood NYC, a Brooklyn based company that focuses on hand carved rings. This creative lady saw a need for sustainable accessories and filled it. No diamonds or gold, just good wood from Mother Earth. Kerri has been bringing the vibe of an environmentally friendly Radio Raheem to the masses and, with amazing collabos waiting in the wings, there’s no sign of her slowing down!

Beginning with rings, Kerri extended the line to custom pendants, bracelets and earrings.

All Good Wood NYC pieces are handmade and designed by Kerri along with a “team of wood carving elves”…who I picture rockin’ track-suits and kicks. The pieces are intricately hand carved into light and dark wood and sanded for the smoothest results.

Today we honor, Kerri O’Connell for her creative and innovative mind, as she takes the essence of Hip Hop into the next century. Read on after the jump to learn more about Kerri and Good Wood NYC!

M.I.S.S. Cargo NYC: Good Wood NYC

Had a chance to catch up with Kerri O’Connell, the lady behind Good Wood NYC. I’ve loved the contrast of the natural wood meets urban jewelry since I first saw Good Wood’s jewels. In the coming months you can expect collaborative pieces dropping with the Source, and Lo-Life to name a few. You might remember the TooFly rings we reported on last year and of course Good Wood has gotten down with one of our fav’s, MissBehave magazine. O’Connell and her wood carving elves can carve up any custom item you need and if you can’t quit afford a real diamond, Good Wood’s got you. PLEASE stay posted for a “next level” piece she’s about to drop. When I saw the prototype I said to myself…”it’s about damn time someone did that”.

Toofly Interview on The Citrus Report

M.I.S.S. Toofly was interviewed for a feature on Upper Playground’s online magazine, The Citrus Report. She talks about the difference and the pros/cons of learning in the streets versus learning in art school. She and Alice Mizrachi, her partner and co-founder of The Younity, also tell us about why they started The Younity and the big plans they have for 2009.  As one of M.I.S.S.’s original members and first cover artist, Toofly definitely has a special place in our hearts.  She continues to bring the ladies together through her art and we love her for it!  Read the interview feature here.

Delineations: Collected Drawings and Illustrations

Let’s Dance by Toofly

Ad Hoc Art is proud to present Delineations, a collection of drawings and illustrations from a diverse group of international artists. Drawing has been and will always be a fundamental part of the art-making process. Starting as far back as the 1400’s, artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Michelangelo, and Raphael used drawing as not only a starting point but as a way to communicate things which could not be accomplished in any other medium. Fast forward to the 1900’s as artists such as Max Beckmann, Jean Dubuffet, Arshile Gorky, M. C. Escher, André Masson, and Pablo Picasso not only continued this serious examination of drawing as fine art, but took it to incredible new places through their creativity and talent. In more recent times artists such as Marcel Dzama, R. Crumb, Dan Clowes, Joe Sacco, Yoshitomo Nara, and Julie Doucet (among many, many others) again redefined how we look at drawing as not only a means to an end but an important and impressive end in itself. Continuing with this amazing tradition, we present to you a new generation of drawers and illustrators who hope to not only add to this amazing lineage of artists but to also find ways to reinvent and reinterpret how drawing can be used to communicate and enlighten.

DELINEATIONS, a collection of drawings and illustrations from a diverse group of international artists, opens tonight, Friday, January 16th  and runs through February 15th 2009.  Read the full story for a list of all the participating artists and gallery address.

Younity Heart & Soul Exhibition

Younity held it’s Heart & Soul exhibition this weekend, a gathering of artwork made by creative women.  If you missed the event, no worries, you can see the exhibit through November 14th.  Not only did Younity put together an exhibit, they got the ladies together to paint some wall out in 5 Pointz, the infamous graffiti destination.  Toofly, one of the founders of Younity, did an amazing job of documenting the wall painting, the exhibit and the after-party.  Check out her site to see more flicks!  Congrats to the ladies on doing such a beautiful job and breaking stereotypes that women can’t work together!  Pics of Toofly and Lady Pink pieces after the jump.

Heart & Soul open until November 14th
