Step into the Darkside for Your Summer Sneakers

The Darkside Initiative just received a gang of new sneakers for your warm weather rendezvous, some of which should spark memories of summers long gone. For all you true sneaker heads, the Air Max ’90 is usually a popular pick, and this time it receives an updated ’09 look with shiny patent. If you’re up for a punch of color, go for the purple/white pair, but for those who are not so bold, the silver/black/red will be the go-to pair for everyday life, from running errands to running the track. My personal fave, the Air Max ’95, has been re-released in a colorway popular to Frisco folks, orange and grey.  Thankfully the shop thinks of the ladies, because although the ’95s are men’s sizes, they ordered down to a size 6, equivalent to a women’s 7.5 (sorry for the tiny feet!).  If your old pair from high school has been around the block one too many times, it’s now time to upgrade!

Those that favor the new new have a few choices to pick from. The Blazer Mid “Bamboo” just breathes summertime with its woven look and green accents. And…these are strictly for the ladies so rock them out to make the fellas jealous! For something on the dark side, opt for the black/metallic pewter pair with subtle hints of snakeskin, or even the Air Rift in a similar colorway. With the ninja-inspired split-toe box and easy-access Velcro elastic straps, you’ll be able to swiftly handle your business and pleasure. Then, art and Dunk lovers alike can feel fly with the latest “skinny” silhouette that feature French textile designer Paule Marrot’s feathers pattern. Again, this is only for the females.  The Darkside Initiative has you covered!

Last week my friends over at The Darkside turned me on to my new favorite website - Snacks and Shit.  The site is run by two guys named Chris based in LA and they dissect hip hop songs by taking one lyric and giving their hysterial commentary.  I won’t bother you with my explanation - just go read it - I swear, it’s funny.  And, pay close attention to the “filed under” and “tags” - those are the best parts!  If you’re a tweeter, you can follow them on twitter and find out immediately when there are new snacks.

The Darkside Initiative is having a sale today and tomorrow with huge savings on Nike and Converse for the ladies.  Bring your man ’cause they’ve got plenty of men’s shoes and The Darkside also carries some of the most sought after apparel and highly desirable import labels including WTAPS (Japan), Acronym (Germany), Futura Laboratories (Japan) and HideSeek (Japan).  The sale is today and tomorrow in San Franciso at 1827 Powell Street in North Beach.  Treat yourself to something, you deserve it!

The Darkside Initiative just got in some hotness in time for Halloween. The Dunk Highs (pictured above) are adorable, complete with glow in the dark bats! As one of the few boutiques in the world to have a Tier Zero account, they are also getting some dope kicks in this weekend including the DQM suede perforated Dunk Highs (I LOVE the purplish/grey). The one shoe I am most excited about though is the Nike Air Rejuven8 inspired by the Olympics. This shoe is amazing and looks like the perfect travel shoe. The perforations are guaranteed to keep your feet cool and dry and come with 2 removable booties that can be worn with OR without the shoe. The Rejuven8 features some of the newest technology that Nike has on the market - so exciting! Unfortunately, the DQM Dunk High and the Rejuven8 are only for the ladies who can fit into a men’s size 7 and up (women’s 8.5 and up). No luck for the tiny dancers out there but we can get the glow-in-the-dark Halloween Dunk Highs. Double Punch is hosting special limited engagement with San Francisco artist, Nate (N8) Van Dyke, with the art of his new mini comic, PAY DAY, featuring DUTCH, the bank robbin’ chimp. The Pay Day figure is available in several colorways and was made in conjunction with Upper Playground. This one day event will include original and concept art from the comic and the signing of his new vinyl figure, produced by double punch.

A few weeks back the M.I.S.S. Crew was in full effect to check out It’s Pop It’s Art hosted by iLL-Literacy, a Bay Area spoken word crew. There were four of us that made it out: Lexx, Michelle, Liz and myself. Here’s a peak into what Lexx and I wore - Michelle and Liz’s outfits coming up shortly!

If I remember correctly, I was having a pretty bad day and had to drag myself out of the apartment. Comfort is always key for me and I took it to new heights by going out in sweatpants. I know, I know, I am officially contributing to the pajamafication of the U.S.A. It’s not my fault that they are the best sweatpants EVA. Anyway, you heard it here first, Sweatpants Are The New Black.

I had the pleasure of attending the Vans Syndicate Exhibition in San Francisco for Adam from Slam X Hype since SF is a bit of a distance from New Zealand. The event celebrated the launch of the Fall Vans Syndicate line designed by designers and skaters like John Cardiel, Grime, Steve Olson, WTAPS, and Max Schaaf. The event was held at On Six Gallery on gritty Sixth Street and the PBR was flowing all night long. You can check out the feature that I wrote on Slam X Hype but here’s some stuff that didn’t make it into the feature (the fun stuff!).

For those that know me, know that I have a healthy appetite for all things kicks so one day a week I moonlight at
The Darkside Initiative in San Francisco.  There’s no dress-code, the only requirement is that I wear Nike or Converse since those are the shoes we sell.  Here’s my outfit from last week’s day at The Darkside.
