Introducing M.I.S.S. Muses: Celebrate!

Hello, everyone and welcome to M.I.S.S. Muses! Every week I will be taking you through my own muses and musings to share inspiration and offer things for you to ruminate positively on.

Who am I? I’m Stella, Queen of Bows; pleased to meet you! I’m a sales rep and writer, with my ultimate occupation being to be inspired and inspiring. Now that we’re acquainted, let’s get it goin’.

Last weekend inadvertently was celebration weekend. With a birthday party, anniversary dinner, and baby shower scheduled, I should’ve seen it coming. Looking back at the weekend I see there is always something to celebrate.  But beyond the planned events, I found new reasons, new ways, and inspiring celebrations of my own.

Friday night started with the birthday party. The thing is, it was not yet our hostess’ birthday (that is still yet to come this month), but who cares? She called for a celebration, so we came out for the cause, regardless of the calendar date.

The next night was the official 1-year anniversary of living in New York City for my friend. She admitted embarrassment for making a big deal about it as some may find it a silly occasion, but to me, it is a damn worthy cause to celebrate. It’s a significant event to her and not easy to move cross-country, start anew, and make it in a city that likes to kick ass and take names. And who really needs a reason to dress up, go to a restaurant you’ve wanted to try, and have a treat in good company with good spirits?

More than one way to toast!

More than one way to toast!

My Sunday started with a meeting and I opted to sit outside the café where I was meeting my client. With the cold weather and layers I’ve adjusted to for the fall season, it was amazing to be in shining sunlight and no-jacket-required temperatures. I stopped to take it all in, put down my phone, and forgot about waiting. In taking those few moments, I became inspired. I thought of all I have to celebrate that I hadn’t previously been pausing to realize. In fact, in that quiet time and while cheers-ing the day with an iced mocha, I was inspired for this column.

After my meeting I headed to “The Celebration of Life.” That was the actual event name on the Evite invitation for my friend’s baby shower. Seeing her get to reconnect with friends who have crossed her path at various points and so excited for her daughter was beautiful.

With all this good in the air, I chose to go to my tattoo shop.  My 1-year anniversary-celebrating friend mentioned she wanted company as she was getting a commemorative tattoo, so I decided I’d rather be there than find out the next day she was alone.  It was awesome to see her still excited and choosing permanent ink for her celebration.

Tattoo to celebrate!

Tattoo to celebrate!

Whether celebrating a new life entering, the years we’ve survived when we weren’t sure we could, or a new life self-made, we’ve all got some heavy things under our belt to be proud of.  Then there are the little things: a good weather day, a good hair day, a smile, etc. Walking home after the birthday party I celebrated life.  It was a chilly trek, but I sang (aloud, as if nobody was listening) as I couldn’t help but feel happy to just be alive.  I’m not financially thriving and there are recent times I just want to crawl under the covers rather than sort through everything, but I couldn’t help feeling free and happy. I was happy not because circumstances, not because of gifts, and really for no reason at all. But it is something to just celebrate life, because I have a life worth celebrating, come what may.

What can you celebrate today?

Mike Giant Sharpie®

I’m a reformed graff kid but carrying a Sharpie everywhere I go is something I may never be able to shake. Needless to say, I nearly lost it when I saw that graffiti/tattoo legend, Mike Giant, now his very own signature Sharpie! Here’s what Mike has to say about this amazing achievement:

“I’ve been inking every drawing with my signature REBEL8 Sharpies. I’ve been drawing with Sharpies almost exclusively since 1990. If someone then had told me that I’d have a Signature Sharpie someday, I would have laughed at them. But it’s 2008, and I make a living drawing with them. How crazy is that? Thanks, everybody.?

Kat Von D for Sephora

Kat Von D—the tattoo artist we know and love from L.A. Ink—has decorated a super-exclusive and edgy line just for Sephora! Sephora Beauty TV caught up with her for a preview of her super edgy new product line (she’s wearing it in the video) that will be debuting at Sephora in mid May. Check out the packaging she designed based on one of her favorite rose tattoos. The lipstick comes only in shades of red. The product names will sound familiar to those that stay up with L.A. Ink—her signature palette is named after her cat, Ludwig. More in the video!
