M.I.S.S. NYFW: Max Azria FW2010 Collection

New York Fashion Week Fall 2010 Max Azria: Sheer yokes

It seems since Max and Lubov Azria’s move towards minimalism in Spring 2009 that they’ve decided to stay in that direction. While there’s nothing to get to excited about their Fall 2010 collection, it’s still a beautiful one to behold. The monochromatic outfits in black and bluish-grey felt like fashion choices that  Trinity of The Matrix would make, or maybe it’s the slick dark hairstyling that makes me think that? Anyway, the line of darks were occasionally interrupted with serene light olive, camel and white, giving a cool overall feel to the collection.

Sheer yokes, panels of leather, and satin provided the interest needed against  the matte fabric present throughout. And hints of sparkle bounced off black sequin trim in a non tacky way.  Style lines and hemlines sometimes switched from straight to asymmetrical, silhouettes would switch from body conscious to loose, giving the right amount of variation within the monochrome outfits.

M.I.S.S. Techcessories: Stay fashionable with these iPod apps

Are you an iPhone addicted fashionista that needs to constantly stay up on the latest runway shows, the hottest new looks, and all the style related news you can possibly wrap your brain around?  Then you might want to check out the iTunes app store, as more than a handful of fashion brands have jumped on the the technological bandwagon and are offering snazzy apps to satisfy your every need.  Style.com’s app (the online home of Vogue) is probably the best fashion related app out there and does an excellent job of bringing the Vogue brand to the small screen.  Users can visit the Vogue blog, visit an archive filled with catwalk videos and catwalk and party photos, and vote on a “Look of the Day”.  The navigation is smooth and intuitive, and there’s enough content here to keep you more than busy on your next flight.  Net-a-Porter, the world’s premier online luxury fashion retailer, launched an iPhone application called Net-App that allows users to browse its notoriously well-edited merchandise (featuring labels like Alexander Wang, Prada, and Phillip Lim) and actually make purchases from the comfort of your own phone.  If you don’t have the funds to do some uber-expensive online shopping, you can “window” shop, read Net-a-Porter’s online fashion mag, email product pics to friends, and add items to a wish list.  For the younger crowd (or the young at heart), Seventeen Magazine has a popular iPhone app that lets users to check the availability of products in the magazine at stores near them and reserve them. The app is refreshed every month and includes products chosen by that month’s celebrity cover model.  And the Canadian version of Elle (one can only hope that other territorities will receive their own app) has their own app that features link to their gossip blog, a photo gallery, horoscopes, a look of the day and a shop.  This is only the beginning, and it shouldn’t be long before even more magazines and labels start offering their own apps in the store.

Fashion Meets Music: Summer Festival Rewind

We received a lot of fantastic mixtapes at the beginning of summer asking us to be reminiscent of classic summertime hits and chillin’ with our friends. Here we are going to take it back through the summer festival style reel and reveal our own ”greatest hits” collection, because what’s music without the fashion? Whether they were keeping it cool underneath hats, stompin in the rain with wellies or combat boots, or mixing vintage with Chanel, the kids came out to play in their summertime clothes. Photos come courtesy of Style.com’s coverage of Coachella, All Points West, Lollapalooza and Glastonbury. You’ve seen our Mirror, Mirror posts, getting ready for shows is just half the fun! What were some of your favorite fashion moments of summer? If anyone saw Karen O killin’ it on stage this year, that kimono top with the scarf over her head was mine, no doubt.

Posso 12″ Limited Edition Collection – only 12 of each style exist, so act fast!

Posso 12" Limited Edition Collection - only 12 of each style made!

Posso 12" Limited Edition Collection - only 12 of each style made!

We’re smack-dab in the middle of a recession, so who wants to go around buying new outfits all the time? OK, we’d love to be able to spend all our funds scooping up the latest designer gear, but we just don’t have that luxury. Plus we love to bring out our inner Rachel Zoe and play stylist by getting creative with our already-acquired duds. Accessories play an even more important role nowadays because they have the ability to breathe new life into clothes that have resided in our closets for some time. So let M.I.S.S. introduce you (or re-introduce you, for those of you already familiar) to Los Angeles-based brand Posso, who’s recently released a limited edition croc-textured series of shoe accessories, cuffs, and belts that are sure to glam up any outfit.

The Subject, the 12" Collection's footwear accessory

The Subject, the 12" Collection's footwear accessory

Welcome to Posso’s 12″ Collection, one so exclusive that only 12 – that’s right, twelve! – of each style were made. Let’s begin with one of the most important features of any outfit – your footwear! To dress these up a bit, don The Subject, a limited edition spat that comes in turquoise crocodile and creme anaconda and retailing at $130. Best of all, it’s reversible, so you get a 2-for-1 deal with these babies. (It’s kind of like getting two new pairs of shoes at once.) If you’ve grown tired of plain old bangles and cuffs, opt for The Offering, the 12″ Limited Edition Cuff from the collection. The unisex accessory will run you $60 and is available in turquoise crocodile and creme matte. It also includes a hidden pocket for any pocket-sized necessities (think your I.D. or ATM card) – perfect for a night out – we’d almost categorize it as a clutch. Lastly, the belt from the 12″ Collection, dubbed The Pause, comes in turqoise crocodile and creme anaconda and costs $90. Ideal for both men and women, it sits comfortably at your waist or hip. Each piece is made of Italian embossed leather (so yes, it’s the real thing, for those of you wondering) and created in downtown LA. All are available on Posso’s online shop, where you can scoop up some of the brand’s other footwear accessories and  garter belts.

We understand that wearing a funky new accessory can jazz up any outfit and thus make you feel excited, maybe even make you want to get up and dance. Posso understands too, and they’re offering a playlist of a few tunes you can download and boogie to. Hell, even if you’re not lucky enough to scoop up one of these exclusive pieces that doesn’t mean you don’t have the right to jam to these remixes, which features songs from Phoenix and Dynasty. The playlist comes courtesy of Posso’s blog, Diamond Dusted and Rhinestoned, which you should most certainly check out while you’re over there.

Posso 12" Limited Edition - Don't sleep on these pieces!

Posso 12" Limited Edition - Don't sleep on these pieces!

For those of you up-to-date in blogosphere happenings, you’ll recall that Posso was featured on Style.com for their collaboration with Shawn Kaleka of Costume Department. The project was spawned after Posso masterminds Marylouise Pels and Vanessa Giovacchini began discussing outfits for Coachella, where Kaleka suggested the possibility of creating an outfit for the famous festival, and as they say, the rest is history. From this conversation came the “Space Safari” collection, which will consist of swimwear and cover-ups, and like the 12″ Collection, spats, cuffs, and belts. You’ll be able to scoop up pieces from the “Space Safari” collection on 80s Purple and from Posso’s Web site.

Minimalism is Queen on Alexander Wang’s Fall 2009 Runway

Appropriate during a time of economic downturn, minimalism was the prevailing trend at the showing of Alexander Wang’s Fall 2009 collection. The runway was abound with black, fitted blazers and body hugging dresses. A different approach from Wang’s cutout sweater and Spring 2009 collection, black and white were the dominant colors on this runway, sharing the limelight with a tweed-like pattern (black and white also, of course) that one model rocked head-to-toe . . . even on her feet!

Wang’s Fall ‘09 runway also saw liquid leggings, as seen on the likes of Victoria Beckham, as well as heeled motorcycle boots for a complete rocker chic look. One recent Hollywood trend that made the runway – as spotted on Shenae Grimes and in Lindsay Lohan’s leggings line 6126 – was that of shredded leggings, although Alexander Wang’s version was much cleaner and more structured. And in true Alexander Wang style, models rocked a cutout dress as well as frocks detailed with sheer tulle.

Even though the hues remained subdued on this runway, Alexander Wang managed to create a killer collection once again. I doubt that in no time we’ll see socialites and celebrities rocking the designer’s one-shouldered dresses and belted blazers – perfect for wearing out on those crisp fall nights.

“That’s much too vulgar a display of power, Karras”

fass_topsy.jpg

It’s true. W magazine has parted ways with Style.com.

A reason for the split is unknown, but we hear it was amicable. However, the assets were definitely not split equally between W mag and Vogue, which still resides at Style.com.

At the new site, there are no lookbooks for readers to create, no weekly top 10 best dressed, or any odd Candy Pratt animations. But don’t feel too bad about the mags new online haunt just yet.

The site boasts a pretty interesting editor’s blog, and, more importantly, it has practically every article or feature from W’s current issue online. So, you can still check out that creepy “topsy-turvy editorial lensed by Craig McDean.

Raquel is a favorite of ours, but when she starts spewing green stuff and makes her head spin around in complete circles, that’s where we’re going to have to draw the line.

Doesn’t she kind of look like that girl from The Exorcism of Emily Rose?
