Lily + Jae Spring/Summer 2009: Easy Living!

Lily + Jae Spring/Summer 2009: Easy Living!

If there was one look book this season that epitomized the word “summer,” we’d have to go with Lily + Jae’s Spring/Summer 2009 look book. Set in the great outdoors, the vintage-inspired shots are perfectly reminiscent of the carefree summer days of your childhood when your biggest dilemma was figuring out when the ice cream truck would be rolling down your street. Now you can relive those easygoing times – in your clothes at least. Let each Lily+Jae piece remind you of a simpler time, which won’t be hard with their free-flowing dresses and jumpers that make for effortless summer style.

Lily + Jae is the brainchild of Jude Feller, who left her wardrobe job in film and TV when she simply didn’t find exactly what she was looking for. The rest, as they say, is history. Lily + Jae is in its fifth season, and this collection features pieces ideal for summer: simple, comfortable, and classy. (Think of it as raiding an upgraded version of your mom’s ’70s wardrobe.) Summer heat and humidity is synonymous with comfy clothing – but don’t sacrifice your stylish edge with a pair of sweatpants. Lily + Jae have got you covered with wide-leg bell-bottoms and denim “baggies” – loose-fitting denim with matching suspenders. Don’t assume these are the ones you saw on Steve Urkel, though. In fact, they’re far from it.

Although Lily + Jae founder Feller is a “self-described tomboy,” the brand’s pieces embrace femininity and girlishness. A large part of this season’s collection is focused on skirts and dresses: you’ll find a maxi dress to keep you cool on hazy summer afternoons, and bubble-hemmed high-waisted skirts, an uber-flatting silhouette for any body type. If you’re headed to the office, Lily + Jae’s breezy button-down blouses and simple shirt dresses are the perfect choice for any business casual outfit.

When those rainy days roll through (and some of us have had plenty of those so far this summer), Lily + Jae’s got you covered with hoodies and jackets that can keep your spirits high when rain threatens to damper a summer day. Personally, we’re loving the “his hoody” – an oversized, slouchy sweatshirt that’s reminiscent of your boyfriend’s favorite hoody that he “accidentally” left at your place (just so you could steal it and wear it yourself – we know you’ve done it, and we have too). If you happen to be hitting the shore to soak up some sun, Lily + Jae’s got you covered in the swimwear department too. (I mean, is there anything this collection doesn’t have?) When you hop out of the water and towel off, give your back and shoulders a break from the sun in one of Lily + Jae’s crisp tees.

We know we just threw a lot of info at you, so we’ll give you a minute to take it all in. In the meantime, check out Lily + Jae’s official site, where you can shop online for these fab pieces. And as a M.I.S.S. reader we’re going to hook you up with a 30% off discount on regularly priced product by entering the code “heart.”  There’s a catch though. It’s only for  a week, so hurry up and get to shopping! Your summer wardrobe is calling out for it.

Some people truly believe that fashion is art, and over at FINN cultured+cured, fashion is not only art, it’s an integral aspect of our lives. The Montreal-based lifestyle brand recently released its Spring/Summer ’09 collection, and along with that the brand is creating a movement that the good folks at FINN cultured+cured describe best themselves: “a fusion of sub-cultures that is BANG ON!… for the modern youth.”

Just a quick glance at the pieces from FINN cultured+cured’s collection proves that this brand is something unique – the type that doesn’t come along often. For S/S 2009, offerings include some traditional tanks and sundresses, with a bit of flare added in the detail. The white ruffle tank is an effortless way to punch up a pair of your favorite jeans or shorts, ideal for rocking to a friend’s summertime BBQ. Sundresses can sometimes be drab, but with bright colors (such as the colorblock tube dress) and unconventional cuts (the v-neck dress), you won’t have to worry about looking boring this spring.
