Worship Worthy on the RYZ

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

RYZ is an on-line sneaker community like no other. No camping out, waiting on-line, no “sorry, it doesn’t come in your size”, no working your connects to get in on exclusive drops, no it’s all about who you know, no B.S. Just sneakers…designed by you. The community votes on their fav’s and those are the ones that get produced. It’s totally a popularity contest but truely a win-win. Shoes produced are the ones the people want, winners get paid $500 and $1 per shoe sold there after…and the best thing? Anyone can design a sneaker! Shoes are made vailable word-wide and in sizes mens 5-12. Currently the silhouette of the shoe is the same for all, the RYZ hi-top and has these features:

  • Plush upper combines high quality pigskin detailing with printed 100% cotton, 8-ounce canvas
  • Silver X™ silver thread anti-microbial lining
  • Otholite™ slow recovery light-weight foam insole
  • Crystal Rubber™ outsole shows off bottom graphic
  • Ships in collectable twill bag and box

Jennifer Wannarachue aka Saint Agnes of NYC’s Worship Worthy is not only part of the creative panel of RYZ but the designer behind the WW shoe, “Winner”…that’s certainly a guaranteed win! Get your WW “Winner” kicks here or better yet try your hand at sneaker design and let the people decide!

PRO-Keds Goes Back To Basics

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

2009 will mark the 60th Anniversary of the much loved PRO-Keds brand, which as recently as 2005, under the direction of Damon Dash, had really stepped away from the simple and classic look of this 70’s NYC cult classic basketball sneaker. Recently acquired by the Stride-Rite Corporation, PRO-Keds is excited to get back to the brand’s roots, by largely focusing on the iconic styles from their archive.

Earlier this week, I was invited to check out the haps on this endeavor, and was pleased to see a solid, clean, and affordable collection of sneakers that should appeal to consumers who favor the lightweight classic style of an old-school canvas sneaker. The throwback has not been tossed so far into the past that we should expect to see the same old sneakers my father wore, as PRO-Keds promise to bring some positive changes to the product line, including upgraded materials, quality and design. In addition, they will be launching special edition collections in honor of the upcoming 60th Anniversary, with new product lines hitting premium stores starting in November of this year.

The first products we will start seeing in stores will be the Royal, which comes in a high and low top model and while holding a silhouette similar to sneakers we have become quite used to seeing across dozens of brands, features their distinctive red and blue power stripe adjacent to the toe. The Royal will initially be introduced in the classic canvas in basic black, white and navy retailing for $45, as well as black and white perforated and patent leathers, retailing at $60 and available in sizes 4 - 14 (aka, womens 5.5 - gargantuan). In late February 2009, we will start to see the seasonal color collection of the Royal hit stores, including purple, royal blue, orange, carolina blue, gold, red, and green, retailing for $45.

I was assured that there are some products in the pipeline made specifically for women, but until I find out more information, we’ll just have to stick with the styles that are made to be unisex.

Coming Attraction: British Knights

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

british-knights.jpg

After a temporary hiatus from the scene, it seems as though once popular sneaker brand, British Knights, is seamlessly making its way back into fashion.

They currently have an online store where their storied sneakers can be purchased as well as t-shirts that bare the company’s logo.

In addition to the throwback merch, the site boasts a gallery full of vintage ads and ask readers to send in stories of their fondest memories associated with the shoe.

As if  you could forget, the first M.I.S.S. downloadable calendar featured a lace pair of BK hi-tops. If only the new kicks, looked as cool. *sigh.

When Bad Sneakers Happen To Good People

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

In case you’ve been living under rock, allow me to make one thing clear:We lurrrvvve sneakers here at M.I.S.S. Crew.

From metallic Nike hi-tops to vintage LA Gears, we’ve always had a weakness for finely crafted and well-designed kicks. And we know we’re not the only people with this problem.

So, we can understand why Vanessa Hudgens would be interested in crafting a song that pays homage to her favorite pair of sneakers. But - oh, my! - what was she thinking when she laid down her tragic vocals on her new single, Sneakernight.

Not only can she not sing (and that’s after all of the fancy production, yall), but the sneakers Vanessa and her video co-horts are wearing are pretty, uh, well, bad.

Keep Summer Collection Available Online

Monday, May 19th, 2008

keep company
Keep Company has updated their online store to include their first hi-top, the Guerra, in an array of stripes and patterns perfect for hot summer days. Here’s how the ladies describe the Guerra model: “Inspired by an outing with writer, world traveler and raconteur Gigi Guerra, we made a shoe as sleek and slick as the lady herself. Hit the streets and stop complaining about ankle support.” Haha. I definitely love me some hi-tops and the Keep selection has a “so fresh and so clean” look to them that translate so well for the long days of summer. Check out the other colors and styles here.
