This Saturday in NYC, plus sized women will finally get the opportunity to second-hand shop en masse, at the Fat Girl Flea Market. Founded in 2002, the Fat Girl Flea Market was created to give women sized XL and above an opportunity to shop for cheap vintage and contemporary clothing, just as the more average sized population can in various thrift, consignment and resale stores across the country. Most of the clothes retail between $5 and $10, and come from many brand name plus size brands and retailers like Lane Bryant, Jones NY, Torrid and more. Admission to the market is $8, which may seem a little high, but considering that women have been annually traveling from as far as Philadelphia, Boston, and beyond to attend this event, it’s got to be worth it. Women (and men) of all sizes are welcome to attend, and clothing donations are still being taken.
Saturday April 4th
11am - 8pm
$8 entrance fee
LGBT Center
208 W. 13th Street (between 7th & 8th Ave),
1st floor, Manhattan, NYC

Sarai, of the lovely Sweet Sassafras blog, did a great write-up on vintage shops/shopping in Paris and whether you’re a seasoned jet-setter to the city of lovers, fashion and lights, someone who has a trip on the horizon or a dreamer who’s never been (like me!)—this is a bookmark-must!
Check it out at SweetSassafras.org!
Oh and, coincidentally, Design Sponge just put up part one of a four-part “Regional Design Roundup” on Parisian desingers. Check that out at DesignSponeOnline.com.

I was shopping in Downtown SF a couple of weekends ago. The sun was shinning, as much as it does during a summer in San Francisco, and I happily came upon these two gents. I stopped and had a listen. I enjoyed what I was hearing and seeing but had to keep on schedule so kept moving. After I finished my shopping list and headed back to the streets, there they were again! The had moved locations and set-up in front of The Gap. Since I was done with my “chores” I was able to hang for a bit, take it all in and shoot this little video…which makes me giggle watching all the people walking back and forth..cinematographer, I am not.

Italian based Moschino is opening it’s NY flagship in the Meatpacking District, a haven for boutiques opting for the chicness of Soho but a bit more off the beaten path. The boutique is scheduled to open this fall at “401 West 14th Street in what used to be a local landmark, the former Quality Meats building. ” The Moschino US flagship will carry “Moschino, Moschino Cheap & Chic, Love Moschino and Moschino Uomo clothing[,] . . . as well as shoes, accessories and fragrances.” I love the Moschino brand - it’s always so fun and over the top. Always girly and flirty and not afraid to make a statement. I’m so excited about this store opening and the boutique will be a definite must see for any future NY shopping trips.
