SF 9/10: Fashion’s Night Out Shopping Parties

SF Fashion's Night Out

Fashion‘s Night Out, an evening dedicated to getting customers out of their spending doldrums and into stores to purchase something – anything – is scheduled for Friday.

Retailers taking part will host celebrity appearances, games, musical performances and more, beginning at 6 p.m., in an effort to boost consumer spending on fashion and retail. Clothing will be offered at full price, not bargain rates, but the experience is expected to be more like a night on the town than an evening thumbing through discount racks in a store playing elevator music under the dim flicker of fluorescents.

Neiman Marcus: Cosmetic makeovers in the beauty department; a fashion exhibition by Academy of Art University students whose works will be shown at Fashion Week in New York; highlights of Christopher Collins’ collection. Also, DJs will spin while light snacks will be offered; view 17th and 18th century engraved prints from Prints Etc. in the fifth-floor galleries; open until 8 p.m. 150 Stockton St.

Saks Fifth Avenue: DJs from JE Models and Look Modeling Agency will spin in the fifth-floor Fashion Mix lounge; a fashion trivia contest will be conducted; rock-inspired informal modeling will take place; sketch artists will draw you into a fashion sketch at Chloe on the second floor; open until 8 p.m. 384 Post St.

Saks Fifth Avenue men’s store: On the fifth floor, Vessel nightclub creates fun with music and videos; refreshments will be served to set the tone while shoppers browse the latest collections. The party continues at Vessel, which opens at 8 p.m. for Saks customers participating in Fashion’s Night Out – free admittance for two before 10:30 p.m. and one free drink (must be 21 or older). 220 Post St.

Nordstrom San Francisco Centre: Attend a Girls Getting Gorgeous party, a chance to win a Golden Ticket Fashion Experience that includes a $2,500 shopping spree and closet makeover; trend seminars with a personal shopper; DJ, food treats and cosmetics demonstrations; open until 10 p.m. 865 Market St.

Macy’s Union Square: An appearance by Countess LuAnn de Lesseps from “The Real Housewives of New York”; open until 9 p.m. 170 O’Farrell St.

Bloomingdale’s: Style lounge with informal modeling, small bites and sips from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Westfield Centre, 865 Market St.

Westfield Centre: VIP fashion and beauty event Under the Dome, $10, benefits ArtPoint. More details at westfield.com. 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 865 Market St.

Simayof Jewelers: Free jewelry cleaning and checkup, plus a gift with any purchase of more than $350; open until 9 p.m. 295 Geary St.

Naramacie: Sip bubbly and guess the number of rosebuds in a jar to win a free women’s or men’s shirt of your choice (winner announced the next day); open until 8 p.m. 352 Sutter St.

Burlingame Avenue: Approximately 16 participating retailers, including Trina Turk, Morning Glory, Ralph Lauren, Anthropologie and Les Deux Copines, will offer various refreshments and surprises; open until 9 p.m. Various locations, Burlingame.

I’m not here to put my nose up Hellz’s ass, but I’m here speaking from my heart for a clothing line that is after my own heart. There are only 3 women’s lifestyle brands that I really am in love with. Hellz is a line after my own heart and for giving me ladywood.

CA 7/11: The Bolinas World Cup Party

The Bolinas World Cup Party

For the 8th year in a row, The Sak Brand Group announces its partnership with America Scores.  America Scores uses the power of soccer and poetry to help urban youth learn valuable skills on and off the field.  A cause that is an important one to Mark Talucci, co-founder, who at a very young age growing up overseas in places like Brazil, began his charitable work helping the underprivileged kids in his neighborhood.
In light of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” initiative, childhood obesity has become a national priority.   Jamie Oliver’s “Food Revolution” is also helping shine a spotlight on the epidemic.  Scores coaches take it one step further teaching participants and their families about nutrition and healthy living while inspiring youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and to give back to their communities.    Scores reaches over 6,000 children in underprivileged schools all over the country, including San Francisco, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago and New York.
On July 11th, The Sak Brand Group and Bay Area Scores will team up to host The Bolinas World Cup Party at the Jefferson Airplane House in Bolinas, CA (outside of San Francisco).    The Bay Area Scores organization has a goal of raising more than 100K from the event, live auction and online auction to add 200 kids to the program next year.

Inspired by the dia de los muertos (day of the dead) celebration, CaliLOVE, Amanda Lopez’s latest body of photographic work addresses more than the concept of death. Instead, Lopez’s portraits reveal and celebrate the preciousness of life. The artist’s first series captured completely indoors, CaliLove addresses the vastness of human experience and individuality. Viewers are called to witness the unique reactions and idiosyncrasies comprising the process of living as well as each individual’s way of coping with the uncertainty of life in the face of death. Within each photograph, CaliLOVE aims to capture this juncture between life, death and the everyday choices that define who we are and where we are headed.

Amanda Lopez was born and raised in Sacramento, California under the watchful eye of her parents and paintings of La Virgen de Guadalupe. Her father lent her a camera at the age of 17, and photography soon became her savior. She studied art at San Francisco State University, and continued to shoot around the Bay Area and beyond. Her work has been published in Vibe, XXL, XLR8R, Hamburger Eyes and in the books “Street World” by Roger Gastman and Upper Playground’s “Backyard Shake Down”. She believes La Virgen de Guadalupe has guided her well.

Free Gold Watch is proud to feature the talented artist whose extensive photographic work has been shown in gallery exhibitions at 111 Minna, San Francisco City Hall, White Walls Gallery and Upper Playground Sacramento. The opening reception begins at 7PM until 11PM on Friday, June 18th 2010. Centering on Amanda Lopez’s intimately inclusive photography the evening will be a celebration of the nuances of everyday life and the preciousness of living.
