Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture

The 81st Oscars took place tonight and one word that summed up the night - from the set design, to the fashion - is CLASSY.  It seems like the actors took heed of all the previous award show fashion critiques because most of the dresses were gorgeous and there weren’t many mishaps.  The set design of the show was gorgeous - the curtain was made from 100,000 Swarovski crystals lit from behind.  The band was brought on stage to evoke the big band era of the 1940’s and the way the Best Actor categories were announced brought a few tears to the eyes.  That said, let’s get to the fashion!  There were definitely some trends - the main one being light, neutral colors like white and beige.  One of my favorite dresses of the evening was Nicole Kidman’s but sadly I don’t have a photo.

Pale Perfection

Pale colors were very popular on the red carpet from Marisa Tomei’s white Versace gown to Sarah Jessica Parker’s “barely mint,” pastels were the color of the evening.

Tarji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli; Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab

Ms. Henson’s flower petal dress is gorgeous and she carries it so well. Ms. Wood’s dress is very sophisticated, and together with her retro hair, her look hearkened back to old school Hollywood glamour.  The dangling earrings and black nail polish were a nice touch.

Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani Prive; Jessica Biel in Prada

Both dresses are lovely - my only comment about Ms. Biel’s dress is that no matter how great your figure, no one really needs that much extra fabric in front.

It doesn’t seem like celebrity designers are going anywhere - they are in full force! The newest to the batch is Kristin Davis who is designing a collection for Belk. I had never heard of Belk so I looked it up and it looks like a department store based primarily in the South. Her collection launches in the fall and will be available at 125 stores and online. “The modern, feminine, style-savvy line will launch with compelling assortments of women’s apparel, sleepwear, loungewear, shoes, handbags and jewelry.” I only saw one look, and if that’s any indication, this collection looks just as bad as the one Sarah Jessica Parker did for Dave & Barry’s. I wonder if Ms. Davis will follow in SJP’s shoes and launch a fragrance as well?

Speaking of fragrances, the mighty Queen Latifah just signed a deal to release a fragrance for Fall 2009 that has targeted distribution in department stores and is aimed at the “urban market in addition to middle-aged consumers.” No other details yet, we’ll keep you posted.

Last night marked the NY premier of Sex and the City, the much anticipated movie that will most definitely showcase beautiful clothes and spur a multitude of trends. The 4 leading ladies dazzled in varying shades of neutral metallics from silver, gold, ivory and gun metal black. Ms. Field didn’t shy away from color in a purple metallic ensemble paired with black, and of course her fire engine red locks. I think it’s funny that they all opted for super-shine. I wonder if the actresses knew the iconic stylist would be opting for disco metallic?

I love that they had a pink carpet for their premier (as did M.I.S.S. Crew for our 2nd Birthday Party) - what can we say, great minds think alike. I am super excited about seeing this movie but I have to express my distaste and frustration that Fergie is the artist behind the song for the movie. I don’t think that she has the most talent in the singing department and her taste level is questionable. That said, I won’t let the song ruin it for me and I’ll just plug my ears and look at all the pretty clothes.

Fortunately, her frangrances aren’t as offensive as her Goodwill Bitten clothing line for Steven & Berry’s(still, very wrong). Not only is Covet a really lovely scent, but the launch is accompanied by a fabulous interactive game/contest on Covet’s website, which offers registrants the chance to win up to $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Here’s the gist: The game is a “who done it� puzzle, where Sarah Jessica Parker is framed for stealing a one-of-a-kind bottle of Covet. By joining in the search for the missing bottle and the effort to “free� SJP from prison, contest-goers will have a chance to win up to $10,000 in cash and prizes.

The contest will go through October 15 and there will be weekly clues (and PRIZES) released as the case unfolds, with extra clues posted on the fragrance’s MySpacepage -

Are we sick of celebrity/model designer lines yet? Well, for sure this won’t be the last, we just need to hope for the best. Sarah Jessica Parker bka Carrie Brad-shaw on “Sex and the City� has teamed up with Steve & Barry to exclusively sell her new line, Bitten. When I think of SJP, I think of Prada, Manolo, Jimmy Choo, etc. all the high-end designer brands, but Bitten is the opposite, most pieces will cost only $19.98 or less. The inspiration came from none other than her personal closet, the collection is divided into four categories, Classics, suitable for the workplace; Casual, for the weekend; Trend, featuring more fashion pieces, and Lounge, including a full range of intimates and lounge pieces.

On June 7th, the line will debut at over 200 Steve & Barry stores and it will consist of apparel, swimwear, costume jewelry, handbags, belts, sunglasses and shoes. I am curious of what she came up with, I luv the price range, nice clothes doesn’t neccessary have to be expensive IMO. The spring/summer launch collection features about 400 clothing and accessories items, and will increase to about 500 designs by fall. Stay tuned for more updates on this…via wwd

Bitten?

The label will say Bitten Sarah Jessica Parker, and the name is inspired by the moment after Parker found out about the company’s cheap-but-chic philosophy, and was “bitten by Steve & Barry’s bug,� according to a company statement. Steve & Barry’s also has collaborated with NBA star Stephon Marbury, which resulted in the Starbury collection of sneakers for 14.98.
