Hell Yeah Magazine #2 - The Pop Art Issue Out Now

hellyeah_Page_01
Australian-based magazine Hell Yeah Issue 2 is on shelves now!  It features 20 pages of graffiti including a Def Threats special and interviews with Funkshone, Married to the Mob, Jason Bermas and over 30 pages of street fashion.

M.I.S.S. got together with Hell Yeah Magazine to style their fashion editorial and cover.  Since the theme of the issue was Pop Art, for the editorial, we went with a workwear theme with a Pop Art twist.  Think Rosie the Riveter meets Lichtenstein.  We saved our favorite photo for the cover - yes, girlfriend is wearing a doorknocker earring - for real!  Bet you never saw doorknockers like that - you saw it on M.I.S.S. first!

For the shoot we got our favorite talented ladies on board to create the looks.  Our wonderful photo editor and photographer extraordinaire Amanda Lopez took the photos, M.I.S.S. Busy Lady Baca created the looks with her impeccable styling, Jenni Tay created the flawless pinup makeup and Justina Downs created the perfect pin curls.  That was just the first step.  After we took these gorgeous photos our graphics contributor Sarah B. gave it the finishing Pop Art touch.

Hell Yeah may be harder to find in the U.S. - don’t fret - you can order it online on the HellYeahMag.com.

M.I.S.S. TV: Behind the Scenes of the Hell Yeah Photoshoot!

Behind the scenes of the M.I.S.S. x Hell Yeah Magazine Cover Shoot!

Not too long ago, the ladies of M.I.S.S teamed up with Australian publication Hell Yeah to shoot a cover spread for the magazine’s May issue. Although for some May conjures up ideas of May poles and flowers brought on by April showers, the ladies of M.I.S.S and Hell Yeah looked beyond the spring season, instead pulling inspiration from key moments in culture and political history.

The theme of the May cover shoot was work wear meets pop art.

The theme of the May cover shoot was work wear meets pop art.

Styled by our very own Liz Baca, the Hell Yeah x M.I.S.S May issue cover spread was based on combining the rugged appeal of work wear with the vividness of pop art. Muses such as Rosie the Riveter and Roy Lichtenstein were constantly in mind as Amanda Lopez shot brands including Doc Martens, Hellz Bellz, and Dimepiece. Overalls, jumpsuits, and workbooks, the workwear side of the shoot, were complimented with pop culture themed tees and accessories in bright colors. Makeup artist Jenni Tay finished off the look with 1950s style puckered, red lips, while hairstylist Justina Downs pulled off pin curl hairstyles.
