FIFTY24SF Gallery has 2 great shows opening TONIGHT featuring new drawings and paintings by Ron English and Alex Pardee. Ron English is a master at taking pop cultural icons and adding his social commentary. His twisted personality comes through in all of his pieces and I can’t wait to see his work up close and personal. He had a show a few months back at another SF gallery, but alas, it was raining that night and I was too lazy to go (boo!), but I’ll definitely be there tonight! I’m also excited to see Alex Pardee’s work: Inspired by horror movies, his work is always eerie, yet humourous. This show is no different. He’s portraying and showcasing “Letters From Digested Children” - kids kidnapped by monsters and their SOS letters. He’s even got the missing person’s posters to go with it. Stay tuned for pics from the show if you can’t make it. Details about the shows, and artists, after the jump.

Ron English, the master of “popaganda”, known for his satirical interpretations of commercial iconography has a new show opening at the Shooting Gallery called The Secret History of Kiss. The pieces in the show explore traditional regal and religious subject matter but all of the subject have been “kiss-ized.” I love Ron English’s work and I’m so excited for this show. The Secret History of Kiss opens this Saturday, November 1st. If you can’t make the show you can get a preview of the pieces on the Shooting Gallery site and we’ll be there to cover it so we’ll fill you in too.

A while back we let you know that Ray-Ban and Marie Claire started Project Colorize - a project that brought together artists including Ron English, Queen Andrea and Toofly to design Ray-Ban glasses and giant billboards. Henri Bendel’s hosted a launch event yesterday so we finally have some sneaky peaks of what’s to come. Many thanks to Toofly for the head’s up!
