Featured on the pages of Vogue, WWD and Harpers Bazaar and seen on the likes of Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera, LA-based fashion designer Freddie Rojas knows fashion from every angle. Every design starts off with cutting edge imported and domestic fabrics and ends with a fashion forward product that will become the envy of fashionistas everywhere. Every season, Rojas treats the public to pieces that have special attention paid to style, fit and detail.
In contrast to last year’s Spring Summer 2009 collection, which featured floral prints, bustiers and mini-skirts, “Cosmic Lovechild,” the Spring Summer 2010 collection pairs breezy pastels with fitted and patterned denim. Pastel tops (which remind me of dreamy rainbow sherbet) are loose and flowing, but with enough structure to flatter; denim pieces are cut and fitted well, but have enough draping in them to make you do a double take to see if the pieces aren’t made out of another fabric. Wide headbands add a bit of quirk and 60s flair to the collection, and add a unifying element to the denim and pastel. If Rojas’s fashion forward eye is any indication, softer colors with bold denim elements are the must have pieces of the summer!
“Cosmic Lovechild” is on sale now and will be available through March 31.

Our time in Las Vegas was brief but busy!! In two days we covered Pool, S.L.A.T.E. at Magic, Capsule and Project. We saw many brands and took note of tons of trends both current and future.
The Crop is HOT: The crop top and jacket has been showing off the past few seasons but was in FULL FORCE this time around. Many brands offered there basic “t-shirts” or tanks on cropped versions and with t-shirt hems rising so are jackets. With the hi-waist trend we’ve been working with in recent years it only makes sense that our tops would get shorter. *please note I was properly displaying this trend with my Cheap Monday t-shirt worn with hi-waist vintage Z.Cavaricci’s on day one of trade show madness

Eyes To The Sky: The Crop is HOT, cropped sleeves hoody and hi-waisted harem pants from Rojas for SS10.

Eyes To The Sky: The Crop is HOT, Modern Lovers offers (to the right) an asymmetrical cropped tank top, also available as a blank for SS10.
Floral Fantasy: Floral prints are still going strong from tops to bottoms to kicks to sh!t kickers. Don’t think that flowers are just for girly girls and don’t get it twisted, these prints are powerful but not all “flower power”. Get into it and make Blossom proud.

Eyes To The Sky: Floral Fantasy, UNIF marries the crop and the floral print, two trends for the price of one.
Fringe Benefits: We chatted last week about fringe and it’s continued usage in clothing and accessories. We spied a few items in Vegas.
Designer Impostors: An all time favorite of M.I.S.S. The continued play on high end designers, love it!

Eyes To The Sky: Designer Impostors, If you have a sense of humor then you'll love Brian Litchtenberg for UNIF.
Heritage Brands: Brands with a long history, the brands our mom and dad used to wear, the brands you wore as a kid, show they have staying power in the world of fashion.

Eyes To The Sky: Heritage Brands, Trethorn was once mentioned in the Preppy Handbook...need we saw more?
We also noticed some of the usual suspects: more pyramid studs, more motorcycle jackets, more exposed zippers, chiffon fabrics and sheer fabrications are showing up and as to be expected black is still holding reign supreme.
A most refreshing trends was back to basics in the footwear world. Thanks to the likes of companies like Nike, who have helped to kill the sneaker game by over saturating the market, we can rest easy in simple canvas sneakers. Brands like 80%20, Keds, Bensimon, Tretorn and Keep offer up budget friendly and style savvy offerings that are a breath of fresh air in the frooty loopy sneaker market these days. Keeping it real simple is a key trend that we’re happy to see!

Rojas produces cutting edge designs with the celebrity clientele to back it up.
Blooming from humble beginnings, Rojas has flourished into a line that boasts cutting edge designs, with the celebrity clientele to back it up. From being worn by the likes of M.I.A., Keri Hilson, and Gwen Stefani, Rojas found it’s way to the forefront of the street wear industry, and has been featured in heavy weight publications such as Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily, and Haper’s Baazar.
Founded by LA based designer Freddie Rojas, the brands design foundation rests in creative clothing that is not only forward thinking, but also wearable. Being involved in the fashion industry practically his entire life, Freddie Rojas is skilled in multiple facets of fashion his work, from being a buyer to pattern maker, even dabbling in marketing, has afforded him the unique opportunity to see the fashion world from all the endless angles. This knowledge is what has placed Rojas on the cutting edge of the sports wear industry.
Rojas brand follows a business philosophy in which high aesthetics and fresh design ideas are quintessential. Moreover, every piece of clothing bearing the Rojas logo is designed to be wearable and, without exception, stylish.
Continuing with their forward thinking approach to street wear, for the Spring 2010 season Rojas has take a colorful passage to trends reminiscent of the 90’s with bleached denim one piece jumpers and by adding the tie dye effect to items such as harem pants and hooded tops. These garments uniquely dyed, and in eye catching colors are essentially the signature of a Rojas design. Rojas is definitely the brand to get you noticed on the street, but out of all the items that stood out to me, nothing seemed to compare to the accessory options the company offered. Fringe necklaces, fingerless gloves, lace jackets, and my favorite, the bow tie necklaces adorned with pearls and sequins are pretty much guaranteed to set off any outfit you could put together in your imagination.

Freddie Rojas has spent his entire life in the fashion industry, from his childhood to his Rojas clothing line and boutique. He knows every aspect of the business from marketing, design, pattern making and production – and it shows in collection after collection. Each season, he creates clothing for men and women that is wearable and effortlessly stylish. He works with and develops new textiles, designs flattering and unique silhouettes and is always ahead of the trends. For Spring/Summer 2009, his inspiration for the collection is Blossom, think floral prints, bustiers, mini-skirts and button-up tops that are longer in the back. Freddie manages to take a fictional teenager’s innocent look and give it a sexy modern spin that leaves me wanting every piece! I especially love the pearl necklace/ties – so cute! The color palatte is black, light blue, violet and mustard yellow with white as the unifying color. All of the pieces coordinate with each other and are perfect for day, night, work and play.
