Roger Vivier, a designer, now brand known for it’s “pilgrim” buckles has just launched “The Cut Up” bag, a custom bag that customers can design. “You pick the color of the bag, then letters, font and symbols.” The base leather of the bag is available in black, gray and purple and is embellished with various letters and numbers in an array of colors. It’s true luxury to create your own bag and know that it’s one-of-a-kind. “The Cut Up” is available at select Roger Vivier boutiques and retails for $1,875.
Here’s the last installment of the lovely Ruby Slippers we saw at the Ruby Slipper Event at Saks last Thursday. Each pair was lovelier than the other, I definitely have my favorites but they really are truly beautiful in their own way and you can really see each designer’s signatures and themes come through in their Ruby Slipper interpretations. Today’s designer’s include: Stewart Weitzman, Rupert Sanderson, Sergio Rossi, Tibi, Tuleh, Valentino, Vivier, YSL. Check back for pics of the scene at the party, the O.G. shoes and the Saks Fifth Avenue windows.

Next year is the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, and to commemorate the anniversary Warner Brothers Consumer Products has enlisted Swarovski and 19 designers to design their take on Dorothy’s ruby slippers. The designers include A. Testoni, Abaeté, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi and Tuleh. All of the designs will include Swarovski crystals and will be unveiled September 4th in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue. The shoes will take a tour and make several stops including Art Basel in Miami. The ruby slippers will be auctioned off and the proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies and I cannot wait to see this collection! I hope they make their way to San Francisco!

Roger Vivier was one of the most influential shoe designers of the 20th century. Having studied sculpture, he brought a unique perspective to shoe design and is credited with creating the stiletto heel. During his lifetime he designed shoes for Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Schiaparelli, Grés, St. Laurent, Ungaro, and Balmain. Though the famed shoe designer passed away in 1998, his legacy lives on. Bruno Frisoni now designs for the House of Vivier and he and his muse, Ines de la Fresssange, have designed a limited-edition shoe exclusively for Colette called “Rose and Roll”. The shoe is so lovely, the satin rose in a deep purple with the red stiletto heel – complete with rose thorn. What an amazing piece of shoe history! “Rose and Roll”, along with Buckle Bags from the Autumn/Winter ’07-’08 will exclusively debut at Colette during Haute Couture week in Paris.
