The resort shows are still going strong and on Tuesday Prada debuted her collection. I always look forward to Miuccia Prada’s shows because she has a way of making anything look new in a chic dignified way. Her resort 2009 collection was simple: The palette was very dark, mostly black with a bit of green and brown. She had lots of windbreaker-like jackets and lightweight trench coats paired with biker shorts and skinny pants. Her triangular bikini tops paired with flowing long skirts was very bohemian - but in a city-girl way - no hippies here. The common thread tying the pieces together were giant gems adorning everything from clothing, shoes and jewelry. These weren’t be-dazzler stones, these were giant clusters of gems that looked like they could maybe be heavy, but looked airy and light. The scene stealers though, were the the earrings (ginormous and bejeweled) and her plain black shoes: A very plain flat slip on and a t-strap. Both were shoes that I could see myself wearing everyday, forever.

Proenza Schouler is launching a footwear line to coordinate with its apparel collections. The young men behind the label have been fashion superstars since their debut collection and I’m really looking forward to see what they come up with for our feet. They are releasing select style for resort and a full line for Spring 2009. I hope this means we can expect to see the boys expanding into other product categories like handbags and beauty. Only time will tell . . .

Thursday night Kaiser Karl will unveil the Chanel 2009 Cruise Collection at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami. The Raleigh, an art deco beauty, was built in 1940 but is now one of Miami’s boutique hotels as part of the Andre Balazs family (of The Standard fame). The runway is rumored to mimic the shape of the pool and the show is supposed to end with U.S. Olympic team synchronized swimmers performing a water ballet. Wow! Somehow, Karl manages to outdo his past shows at a Santa Monica airport hangar and Grand Central Terminal in New York. Here’s what he said about choosing the location:
“I like the Raleigh because it is like old Hollywood, even if the collection has nothing to do with it,” he said. “Miami is the starting point, but this collection is made for the world.”

All I know is that I can’t wait to see!
