It’s a timeless classic. The American Prep, a way of life and no doubt a way of dress. And although it never really goes “out” of style it certainly has it moments when it hits harder, spreads out from The Hamptons and makes it way into the trend files. This Spring would be no exception. I know that most of us are still trying to stay dry or fearing snow storms but perhaps planning and scheming your Spring wardrobe can be your light at the end of Winters tunnel.

Now, don’t think you have to go multiple polo’s, collars popped, topped off with ye ole’ sweater around ye ole’ shoulders. You can incorporate certain prepster elements into your look without going full-on L.L. Bean catalog. Polo’s are nice, a crisp collared shirt, chino’s, a tiny navy blazer, or madras plaid will do the trick. Accessories like boat shoes (I am loving the purple tie-dye Sperry Bahama’s!!), loafers (with or without the penny) and classic Tretorn sneakers in eye popping yellow or go for a play on the classic white Nylites in all leather…all are fer-sure ways to add a little Buffy in your life. And let’s not ignore handbag labels like Dooney & Burke. I’ve spied many a gal as of late sporting a classic “all weather leather” Dooney bag…might I suggest the Commemorative Duck Bag? I really want one…in every color. Maybe the Biff in your life will see to it that you’re taken care of.

When is lace not in style? It is the stuff that makes us feel feminine and sexy, whether it’s a bit of trim or a full on Material Girl moment. Mix lace on lace, go for a hint of lace, printed lace…your future fashion moments will include……….yup, you guessed it, lace. You can go trashy or classy…rough it up or keep it polished and refined there is always a way to work in a bit of the fancy. Tights, legging, skirts, bodysuit, camisole, dress, top, jumpsuit, gloves, veil, shoes, purse…oh the list goes on. However you wear it: torn and tattered or like a lady, this timeless classic will continue to be a keeper.

Is this love? That I’m feeling? I think yes and it is for leather shorts. Cuffed, baggy, pleated, belted, tight, short, long…If you’ve ever considered it, flirted with the idea, the time is coming. Leather shorts are a fun way to dress-up a casual look or add a casual element to a dressed up look…makes looking dressed up effortless. Leather shorts can add depth and texture to your look. I am personally loving the Rachel Roy version, almost like a flouncy skirt but are indeed shorts, I can envision a white ribbed tank and casual high top sneakers for running around or of course stacked stilettos to the sky and a fancy top for a night out. Like the title says, leather shorts are not just for biker babes and ladies of the night, so go forth and get your leather shorts on ladies!

Ears To The Street: Please Hammer?!?!? Harem Pants Are Still Hurtin' Em.

Harem pants, salwar pants, hammer pants, poopy pants, diaper pants, droopy drawers…whatever you call them they’re still here and they aren’t leaving anytime soon. From the spring/summer collections, to Fall and beyond, these love-them-or-leave-them pants are still hurtin’ em. As a form of traditional dress in certain cultures these pants have been around for hundreds of years but we can thank mister M.C. Hammer for bringing these baggy bottoms to the fashion scene in the late 80’s. And here we are 20+ years later and from the likes of Ralph Lauren to Top Shop to Mary Meyers to Yves Saint Laurent these wide load leg coverings have become as basic as blue jeans. What say you ladies: Have you put Hammer pants in your fashion mix?

The motorcyle jacket has become a true fashion staple in recent years. Sure some have been hip to this since Marlon Brando wore the Schott Perfecto in the movie The Wild Ones and of course true school Rock ‘n Rollers and Punk Rockers alike are no strangers to this garment. In the “trickle up” theory of fashion inspiration, you can say that designers took the motorcycle jacket from bikers and rockers…a place of function and a more street fashion and borrowed the look to incorporate into high fashion and high price tags. So ladies, if you have one, hang on to it…if you have been thinking about it, go forth and make the purchase. This is a garment that has become a go-to piece and is a fashion investment. The runway shows for Resort 2010 are offering different variations and versions. From leather classics to different colors and patterns, non-leather and shoulder details. A leather version gets better with time and wear.  So make a wise choice in your purchase and know you’ve have a timeless classic. No motorcycle necessary.

Stella McCartney Resort 2010: A "more consumer-friendly" collection.

Resort collections are gaining more traction with each season due to their wearability and friendlier price points. Once deemed luxury and targeted at the jet setters who holiday in Belize or St. Tropez, designers are now utilizing their resort collections as a means to bridge the fall and spring seasons. This aids in keeping the showroom looking fresh while generating sales. Fashion today is faced with savvy consumers who want to look chic year round. Enter Stella McCartney’s 2010 Resort Collection, a sprightly mix of day to night wear that illustrates trend and makes a statement of style.

Sequin jackets, fun dresses, and textures ignite the edgy side of McCartney's clothes.

15 percent of the line is partially or 100 percent organic.

McCartney’s Resort 2010 collection made it’s debut on Friday night at her LA store in conjunction with a party for World Environment Day with Hollywood fashionistas like Cameron Diaz, Charlize Theron, and Liv Tyler among the revelers in the crowd. The eco-friendly designer had this to say about the line, via WWD:

“We’re all fed up with walking into shops and seeing winter clothes in the middle of summer and vice versa. This collection is more consumer-friendly. We treated resort as a series of months rather than a season, and there are various fabric weights for different times of the year.”

The sophistication comes in black, of course, with the lace jumpsuit that McCartney wore at the Met Gala ...

Anouk Lepere shines effortlessly throughout the look book. Instead of doing the typical free standing model shoot, they used an eclectic mix of prop styling; balloons, inflatable dinosaurs, bubbles, and a smiling model! Looks like there is a playful mood in the design house. The color palette this round boasts bright yellow, orange, green, and a vivid blue. Floral graphics over nautical stripe dresses flirt with her youthful/sporty approach to fashion. Sequin jackets, gold dresses, and textures ignite the edgy side of McCartney’s clothes. The sophistication comes in black, of course, with the lace jumpsuit that McCartney wore at the Met Gala being a hands down standout. The Savile-Row tuxedos cropped and cut to enhance the feminine figure are stunning, the subtle attention to the shoulders is just right. Chunky necklaces with loads of cuff bracelets compliment the tousled hair and minimal makeup. Zip up peep toe heels, yes please. Leading by example, 15 percent of the line is partially or 100 percent organic.
