M·A·C Makeup Looks at NYFW: Jeremy Scott and Proenza Schouler

The good people over at M·A·C were kind enough to share their facecharts from the Fall 2010 shows during New York Fashion Week. Today’s facecharts include: Jeremy Scott and Proenza Schouler, whose shows took place on Wednesday, February 17th.

Jeremy Scott

J-ScottM·A·C artist, Val Garland describes the look at Jeremy Scott as “EXTREME fashion; reminiscent of the 90’s supermodel. Lips and eyeliner overdrawn to the max.” (Something I can definitely appreciate!) M·A·C Face and Body Foundation was applied to the entire face, while Sculpting and Shaping Powder was applied to the cheekbones to contour. Garland then applied M·A·C Eye Shadow in Vanilla and Pro Pigment in White onto the eyelid. A thin line of Eye Pencil in Ebony and Fluidline in Blacktrack were applied below the lower lash line and along the crease of the eyelid (winged out and connected to the outer corner of the eye). Eye Shadow in Carbon was then layered over the liner to set. Garland pressed Lip Erase in Dim into the center of the lip with the fingertip to mute natural lip tone. Lip Pencil in Stripdown was drawn just outside of the natural lip line for a fuller mouth. Lipstick in To Pamper (available in Fall ‘10) was then washed over the entire lip.

Proenza Schouler

M·A·C artist, Diane Kendal wanted “early 90’s grunge” for the look at Proenza Schouler- “moisturized face and a statement lip”. M·A·C Studio Finish Concealer was applied where needed while Blot Powder was used to set foundation and give skin a matte finish. Studio Finish Concealer in NC30 was applied to the cheekbones (for contour) using a #190 brush. Cream Colour Base in M·A·C Pro Dark Brown was applied underneath the eye, into the crease of the eyelid and at the top of the lash line, and blended with a #252 brush. Gloss Texture was then dabbed onto the eyelids. Lipstick in Charred Bed and Eye Shadow in Carbon were blended together and applied, with heavier intensity toward the center of the lip.

LA CFDA Vogue Fund Lunch

Eva Mendes & Diane Kruger

This week L.A. hair care master Frederic Fekkai hosted a luncheon attended by the likes of M.I.A., Eva Mendes, and Diane Kruger to toast the ten finalists of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue Magazines Fashion Fund. With a vast array of heavy hitters in both the fashion and entertainment industries, including Mary Kate Olsen, Jeremy Scott, Tracee Ellis Ross and, Lilly Collins, in attendance, the crowd was presented a fashion show in honor of the bright future of American fashion.

“This is the best-looking party I have ever been to,” said stylist Jeanne Yang as she surveyed the crowd.

It’s like we’re looking at the future of fashion,” said Tracee Ellis Ross

For those of you that aren’t familiar with the fund, the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund has sparked numerous successful careers, by having finalists compete for cash prizes and personal mentoring from American fashions biggest influences. Familiar names such as Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, and Thakoon are past winners of the coveted title and monetary assistance. All of them have become established and respected designers, especially with Thakoon becoming a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama, and Alexander Wang skyrocketing to superstar status in just this year alone. This year one winner and two runner ups will be announced at a gala on November 16, 2009, out of the pool of ten hand picked talents including a fashion week favorite brand Ohne Titel and my personal favorite, George Esquivel of Esquivel Shoes.

“We had very strong applicant pool this year, particularly among the jewelers,” say Vogue’s Editor In Chief, Anna Wintour. “The ten finalists we selected are a talented, diverse group, who are building healthy independent businesses in challenging times.”

Our friends at M•A•C were nice enough to send us their facecharts for the Spring 2010 shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The makeup artists use these facecharts as a guide for the makeup crew, and to summarize the overall makeup theme and “face” of the show. I absolutely LOVE the facecharts since they give us a firsthand look into the makeup trends for next season, as well as simple step-by-step instructions and insider tips and techniques on how to recreate the artist’s vision; something a beauty junkie like myself really appreciates, since these looks can be easily done at home with almost any products!

Tune in Tonight: The Day Before

The Day Before On The Sundance Channel

The Day Before On The Sundance Channel

As you’re anticipating the reveal of the latest Spring collections for New York Fashion Week, designers and their crews are in a frenzy to finalize every detail before their wears hit the catwalk.  What is exactly goes on these days before the show?  While you won’t exactly know for this year, tune in to the Sundance Channel to get past season’s behind-the-scenes footage from some of the most prestigious players in the game.

Tonight airs the first episode in a four-part documentary series, The Day Before.  Loic Prigent, the documentarian responsible for fashion docs, Signe Chanel and Marc Jacob & Louis Vuitton, takes viewers through the 36 hours before a major show.  Tune in each night at 10pm and you’ll get up close and personal with design houses Sonia Rykiel, Proenza Schouler, Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld, and Jean Paul Gaultier, in that order.  Then, when you watch the Spring 2010 collections, you’ll know what really goes on to get the looks.

Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2009 Collection Is Nothing Short of Memorable

Even with the absence of bright colors, Proenza Schouler managed to debut a statement collection at New York Fashion Week. What started off as an assortment of gray knit tights and overcoats appropriate for cool autumn breezes soon progressed into a series of sexy off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, coupled with cutout frocks reminiscent of Alexander Wang’s designs.

One of the best features of the show easily was the chunky, laced-up platforms models sported . . . even with dresses!  Certainly a unique and inspiring take on evening wear, and surely a way to create a memorable outfit (take note!).  One texture that made a recurring appearance was tweed, but don’t be so quick to judge, this isn’t your grandfather’s sport coat we’re talking about here.  Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez successfully used the fabric with a modern-day flare, using tweed for pieces such as a body-hugging turtleneck and asymmetrically-hemmed skirt.

All in all, the collection was a major success. The looks radiated sophistication and undeniable sexiness . . . perfect for the 21st century woman who has it all.

If The Shoe Doesn’t Fit, Don’t Wear It. Trend Alert: Shrimp ‘n Biscuits

Ladies, ladies, ladies. We’re concerned. There is a growing epidemic and we need to bring it to light. There are certain things that are never in fashion. Somethings have been done once and shouldn’t happen again, like say, shoulder pads. But there are somethings that should never be done. Things that will never be a good look. I don’t care how damn cute or sexy those heels are,  please know that “Shrimp ‘n Biscuits” is NOT the business. Ever. To clarify: Shrimp refers to your (hopefully) well manicured toes or shrimps curling over the edge of your heels…eeeek! Biscuits refer to your (hopefully) callus free and well moisturized heels hanging off the back of your heels. This really gets down to proper fit and size. THE SHOE IS TOO SMALL IF YOUR BUSTING OUT THE FRONT OR BACK. Or in some cases too big if your shrimping out the front, i.e: your foot is sliding too far towards the front. Bottom line: Unless you are a high fashion getting paid super model working it on the catwalk and you gotta do what you gotta do (as seen in the above picts from NY Fashion Week) the only place I want to see shrimp and biscuits is on a plate…and don’t even get me started on muffin tops.

Proenza Schouler – Shoe Sneak Peak!

proenza schouler shoe

Last week we told you that Proenza Schouler had announced that they would be releasing a footwear line.  We just got a sneak peak of one of the styles and I have to say that I think it represents the designers well and is true to their aesthetic.  I love the traingular heel and the contrast in materials and colors.  The shoe is very unique – definitely a statement piece – the kind of shoe you build outfits around.  The duo has also designed other styles including ballet slippers, loafers, lace-up sandals and heels and will be available in the upcoming resort season.  The shoes will range in price from $300 to $3,000 with an average cost of $685.   When asked the next logical question about when a bag range is coming out, Lazaro Hernandez stated:  “It’s because we didn’t have anything to say yet. The entire market is so dense with bags and everything else, that until we found something original and specific to say, we didn’t want to say anything. We don’t do anything unless we have something to say.”  All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they have to “say.”

Proenza Schouler Launching Shoe Line

proenza schouler

Proenza Schouler is launching a footwear line to coordinate with its apparel collections. The young men behind the label have been fashion superstars since their debut collection and I’m really looking forward to see what they come up with for our feet. They are releasing select style for resort and a full line for Spring 2009. I hope this means we can expect to see the boys expanding into other product categories like handbags and beauty. Only time will tell . . .

All the Rage: Proenza Schouler X Target

These days in the fashion game it’s all about collabos. From the streetwear industry ( Mama X New ERA ) to the women’s ready-to-wear industry. In my opinion, collaborations between designers, artists, musicians, and companies are a win-win situation if done right. Remember when LeSportsac got with Gwen Stefani to do L.A.M.B .???
The current rage is all about Proenza Schouler for Target .

ps

For all you lucky NYC natives, the entire collection will be available at Opening Ceremony before it hits Target stores nation wide! More details after the jump… Read the full story
