Fall 09 Preview: Georgette

Georgette Fall 09 Preview

For me, Fall has always been less about the leaves falling, and more about piling on the layers. The excitment of new designs and trends, mixed with quality pieces to last through winter, are exactly what new line Georgette had to offer for the upcoming months.

Part of the New Jersey-based boutique Air Supply’s designer co-op, Georgette is an upscale collection unveiling its’ third season. Focusing on well-cut and innovative basics, the line is sleek and feminine. Pieces are airy and silky for the most part, and feature lush jewel tones and dainty floral prints. My favorite was a silky button-up blouse with an amazingly rich color palate somewhere between mustard and lime.

Besides day-to-night worthy tops and tunics, Georgette also offers up a series of suited pieces and stunning coats. With intricate waist detailing, pintucking, and heavier winter-worthy fabrics, stunners such as a white pencil skirt and a soft grey wool bolero are great examples of the line’s quality tailoring.

Priced on the higher end of things (prices range between $700 to $1500), Georgette is a stunner line of pieces with longevity, perfect for the stunner girl on the go!

Fall ’09: Luminary Presents ‘The Space Blockade’

Luminary Presents 'The Space Blockade'

New York based accessories brand Luminary’s collection for fall 2009 showcases chic vs. raw simplicity at its best.

Aptly named ‘The Space Blockade’, the collection presents eerie out-of-this-world, geometric shaped pieces made of rustic metals and gems. For her latest offerings, Luminary designer Folasade Ologundudu was enthused by a summer’s trip to the Dali Exhibition in MoMA, NY. This trip triggered her train of thought to “transform one medium of art and design into another, and still retain an individual identity.” Aesthetically beautiful to look at, this conceptually designed collection of jewellery embodies the idea of simple yet architecturally-chic statement jewellery. For those who will own a piece from this collection come fall/winter 2009, be proud! This will be the talking point of your outfit; a piece of jewellery which will have the people questioning the oddness, the unique style and who designed such a rare piece.

Statement jewellery can be that special little something to make or break an outfit, and we know that Luminary’s fall/winter collection will be doing the goods for us! Watch this space, in the meantime keep posted through the Luminary blog whilst they put the finishing touches to their website.

Lily + Jae Spring 2009 Preview

This week, we were given the opportunity to preview a few different clothing and jewelry lines at Pitch Control PR’s showroom. They served these adorable and delicious mini-mini-mini cupcakes that were so small they were like buttons you’d put on your favorite backpack or denim jacket, but alas their size did not quelch their deliciousness. The first line I am showing you is that of Lily + Jae, a smart but simplistic, detail oriented line out of Canada by Jude Feller. The line consists of contemporary separates made with top quality materials designed for the prototypical girl next door: energetic, innocent and playful.  We see functional takes on hoodies, tanks, flirty dresses, jackets, raincoats, and high waisted trousers that are easy to add to your current wardrobe, and comfortable enough to wear regularly no matter whether your style tends to sway feminine or tomboyish, as the clothes are constructed from light cotton wovens, soft light denims, and jersey fabrics.

The spring season of this line’s inspiration is the romantic rebel, which Jude defines as someone who “loves with great passion, and ignores the rules. Is laid back and unbuttoned and good with her hands. Relishes soft textures and gentle shapes. Is feminine enough to wear oversized clothing and make it look fetching. Picks flowers from vacant lots. Dislikes feeling stifled in love or life.”

I personally loved the light denim part of the collection which consisted of a few dresses, jackets, high waisted trousers, shorts and a jumper and could easily see myself wearing any of the pieces as a perfect way to welcome the warming springtime air.

Lily + Jae clothing is available in about 60 stores across the United States and Canada, and via their website, with prices ranging from about $50 to $300. There are some great pieces on sale right now in their online store (note to Santa, the bib shorts and caravan coat on my christmas list!) After the jump, check out some more pictures of select pieces of the spring collection.
