Violette New York, the apparel line owned and designed by creative guru (and former Woman Making History) Va$htie Kola, is back with a selection of new designs for the Winter season. And although Spring is just around the corner, the saying “better late than never” certainly applies here, because Violette is back with the heat to warm up your late winter season!
Entitled “Ghetto Goth”, the new collection reinterprets the culture clash of the hood and the ‘burbs, presenting unisex tops devoid of color and complication. The black and white color palette is designed to reflect “that kid from Brooklyn who listens to The Smiths, wears a black trench coat, but still rocks Jordans.” We know (and love!) a few of those, here at M.I.S.S!
The brand remains simple in their cuts, providing short-sleeved and tank styles. The tees feature some of Violette’s signature logos, such as a heart and a “V” over a color blocked background.
The seasons’ new styles inventively reflect the gothic theme thanks to elegant and fun graphics, especially the new simple white Tee with an etched black screenprint of a single rose emblazoned on the front.
In addition to the new crop of tops, Violette brings in the Winter season with a collaboration of limited edition pieces designed in tandem with designing brothers Dee & Ricky. Va$htie teamed up with the two to create a lego cross, which will come in both black and purple. Available exclusively on VioletteNewYork.com, only 45 pieces were made, so be sure to cop these exclusive beauties as quick as possible!
Director Va$htie produced a video lookbook of the new line, taking you behind the scenes of the shoot. Violette also teamed up with the new media company Creative Control to give you a behind the scenes look at the shoot. Peep both below, and make sure to visit Violette’s webstore to get your pieces today!

DOWNTOWN’S SWEETHEART – EPISODE 1 from Creative Control on Vimeo.
It seems that the new trend these days in the world of fashion is the fashion film. From lower-end retailers like Target, to revered brands like Chanel, fashion companies are taking advantage of the far-reaching dissemination the internet offers and producing creative video lookbooks that imaginatively showcase their latest collections. One of my favorite examples for the upcoming Spring 2010 season is the just-released Lily + Jae lookbook. Following the models on a dusty drive into the desert, the video lookbook captures the brand’s practical, prairie-perfect looks for spring. High waisted denim skirts and brightly printed dresses both feature classic A-line cuts that, when paired with cowboy boots, remind me of a hipped-up girl on the range. Beyond the clothing, what sticks out to me about the Lily + Jae Spring video lookbooks is the behind-the-scenes focus it provides. The designers offer up a glimpse into the entire creative process that goes into a photoshoot, from storyboarding to finding the perfect location. It takes a lot of hard work to produce a final product filled with glamour and high fashion, but Lily + Jae seem to have put in the time for Spring 2010, and I’m glad because we can look forward to some beautiful designs from them this Spring!
Check out the lookbook below– are you feeling it?

M.I.S.S. is at it again! We teamed up with Office Tramp and Amanda Lopez to produce an editorial for the brand's new "Roses Aren't Red" collection!
Roses are red, violets are blue, Office Tramp is back, and M.I.S.S. is here to school you!
Jewelry designer Gina Valdez of Office Tramp returns with a new collection for the new decade, entitled “Roses Aren’t Red”, which will be rolling out to stockists shortly. The company teamed up with M.I.S.S. to produce a bold editorial showcasing the new line. M.I.S.S TV was behind the scenes of the shoot, which was styled and by over very own co-founders Liz “Gotta Get the Goods” Baca and Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee. Check out the video from the shoot below, and make sure to keep your eyes peeled for when the collection and future Office Tramp collaborations hit stores!
Princess of the Posse recently dropped their new “Paid in NY” light weight sweatshirts and there is some serious weight behind the shoot! P.O.P. rounded up a group of 12 ambitious, stylish, and creative people who are getting paid in NY. All were draped in Princess of the Posse, shot by Kelly B. and allowed us to get to know them a little more.
After checking out each person in the photo, I couldn’t disagree that Princess of the Posse hit it head on. The 12 individuals are pretty rad, and I would like to share their websites with you:
Top row 1: Lori Lori , Juliana Lye , DJ Mariandom , Grace LaDoja
Middle row 2: Promise Smith, Johnny Killface, Suzette Lee, Stella Burchard (M.I.S.S. Muses Columnist Queen Of Bows!)
Bottom row 3: Tocci , Sarah Daniella , Dana James , Son of Kings County
If you have the time, take a look at the people who were involved with the shoot. A lot of inspiration flowing from these folks.
Before the ladies of Nola Darling left for LA, they invited M.I.S.S behind the scenes of their last NY based photo shoot, a series of promo shots for their upcoming EP. Many of the pieces for the shoot were provided by none other than Erin Magee of MadeMe, including the soft-as-butta (no, really!) “Rose-Print Letha” jacket. Jaq and Alex styled themselves for this shoot, an example of their true creative essences.
Check out the latest episode of M.I.S.S TV below to hear Nola Darling talking about the creative process and get an exclusive look at their photo shoot.

The ladies of Dime Piece have announced that their Summer 2008 collection is coming soon. In the mean time, you can check out a behind the scenes video documenting their Summer photoshoot. Watch it here:
