He’s turning me. College Candy knows what I mean.

Stepping Out To The Tux With Chucks Prom

Stepping Out To The Tux With Chucks Prom

Prom Pics At Tux With Chucks Prom

Prom Pics At Tux With Chucks Prom

I haven’t worn a pair of Converse Chuck Taylors since I was in 5th grade, and used to trade one of my purple shoes with my friend for her pink one so we could be like Punky Brewster. But this weekend I found a great excuse to pick up a pair of sequined Chucks that I’ve kind of had my eye on for a while. I was invited by my friend Jed at Converse to step out to the Tux With Chucks Prom on Friday night at Studio B. Along with a few of our good friends, including artist Michael Schall who designed the 100 Pipes Chuck Taylors for the Converse 1HUND(RED) artists series this year, and Brian Carr, of New Jersey based t-shirt line Solid Threads, we laced up our Cons, got fresh dressed like a million bucks, took some kooky prom pictures and got down to the tunes all night.

Studio B was decorated with balloons, streamers, and adolescent-style hand made banners to give just the right touch of high school steez to accompany the raging tunes from the bands Crocodiles and The Japanese Motors. Finger On The Pulse DJs with Matty Royal provided tunes ranging from good old motown jams to 80’s new wave, recent house jams and Baltimore Club. The youthful prom goers came through in outfits varying from totally decked out with ruffles, frills, corsages, cummerbunds, vests and bow ties, to plain party casual and lined up in droves to take digital prom pictures provided by Death + Taxes Magazine. I stayed true to my actual black and shiny senior prom aesthetic from ages ago and  paired my new sequined black on black high top Chucks with an awesome vintage dress I picked up a couple of months back at a thrift store, a black elastic and patent leather belt to cinch it just right, a frilly red tulle slip from Patricia Field to give that baby some big prom volume,  and a silver bow tie for my hair.

After bouncing around on the dancefloor for a couple of hours with my friends and Jelly NYC’s Sarah Hooper, the only thing I felt the party was missing were some slow jams. But considering I came without a date, I guess I got off easy, since I had no desire to cuddle up to this dude who aggressively jumped into one of my prom portraits, called himself “Wheels”  and alternately tried to make out with me, lick my neck, and invite me out for ice cream. Wheels, if you’re out there reading this, the answer to all of your questions is still no.

Women Making History: Michelle Ten of Missfitstyles

Michelle Ten started Missfit Styles, an assortment of Fashion services ranging from styling, writing, and brand consulting, in 2004. In “game” years, that might as well be a full decade! Her clients include URB Magazine, XLR8R Magazine, Sean John, Chris Brown, Ludacris, Sean Kingston, and D Woods of Danity Kane, just to name a few.

Before this, Michelle was a fashion assistant at The Source Magazine. Leaving The Source to work on freelance assignments for artists like Ashanti and Full Surface Records, Michelle returned to The Source, at the height of the magazine, to act as Fashion Editor.

New York native Michelle Ten knew from an early age that she wanted to be in fashion. Cutting out her favorite looks from magazines like Vogue, Elle and Mirabella to create her own books out of photo albums. With fashion being her passion, she knew she wanted to have a career doing what she loves to do and this lady is doing it! This is why, today we honor Michelle Ten as a Woman Making History!

Michelle on some current and upcoming projects:

I’m a fashion stylist & personal shopper based out of new york. I work on celebrity and editorial projects along with ad campaigns and catalog. I’m a fashion consultant for t7live.com, styled Saturday Night comedian Fred Armisen for the cover of Urb magazine coming out March 2009. Did market for Mariah Carey in the Dream’s My Love video and recently styled New Era’s Fall 2009 catalog for their traditional apparel division.

Some on Michelle’s work:

We have a Q&A with Michelle, including a handwritten survey and more, after the jump!

Patricia Field Designs Line for Home Shopping Network

patricia field hsn
The Home Shopping Network has tapped Patricia Field to design a line called Destination Style New York. Helping Field with the design is House of Field designer David Dalrymple.  The collection includes 50 pieces including denim, dresses and accessories and will retail for $39 to $199.  Clearly HSN is milking the SATC cow and trying to capitalize on a market of women who want to dress like Carrie.  I love Patricia Field (long before the Sex And The City days, mind you) but I wonder what the collection will be like.  I wasn’t very impressed with her shoes for Payless.  Hopefully this will be a better reflection of PF’s style and taste.  Only time will tell,  the collection will be available for sale, for 5 days only, on TV and online beginning September 23rd.

Images & Info

P.S. — I know you’ve been wanting the belt you saw in the SATC movie!  You can pre-order it on the Patricia Field website!!

Patricia Field is My #1.

Patricia Field

Patricia Field is one of “The 50 Most Powerful Woman in NYC? according to the New York Post (jun.3). She landed at #24 but in my heart she is always #1, so much so that when I use to work for Barneys New York many celebrities would come and go. However, it was not until I was in the presence of Patricia Field that I had to do the impossible, get her autograph (Hey! it was all I could do at the time). We as employees were not allowed to do such a thing, because we could loose our jobs. What’s a girl to do? I am from the Bronx N.Y. and we invented the word Sneaky, enough said! Check out this Current T.V. interview on Pat. Field.

P.S. If I ever go back into retail as a job the Patricia Field Boutique is going to be my 1st choice. In the mean time I am accepting gift cards. Hint Hint!

Sex & The City NYC Premier

sex and the city ny premier
Last night marked the NY premier of Sex and the City, the much anticipated movie that will most definitely showcase beautiful clothes and spur a multitude of trends. The 4 leading ladies dazzled in varying shades of neutral metallics from silver, gold, ivory and gun metal black. Ms. Field didn’t shy away from color in a purple metallic ensemble paired with black, and of course her fire engine red locks. I think it’s funny that they all opted for super-shine. I wonder if the actresses knew the iconic stylist would be opting for disco metallic?

I love that they had a pink carpet for their premier (as did M.I.S.S. Crew for our 2nd Birthday Party) – what can we say, great minds think alike. I am super excited about seeing this movie but I have to express my distaste and frustration that Fergie is the artist behind the song for the movie. I don’t think that she has the most talent in the singing department and her taste level is questionable. That said, I won’t let the song ruin it for me and I’ll just plug my ears and look at all the pretty clothes.
