It seems like forever!!! Six months to be exact, but I finally made it out to New York last week and JUST missed the snow!! YAY!! I had seven days to visit my cobbler and tailor, host a potluck and shopping party with the one and only Kerin Rose, have multiple meals out with my friends, a little bit of shopping and of course bring The Goods! to my accounts. I had the great pleasure of meeting Pamela Castillo of Market Publique and chatting vintage. A brief stop at the Nina/Delman Shoes offices to chat about their Delman exhibit at FIT: Scandal Sandals and Lady Slippers. Sadly I missed out on dancing but it was an intense work week, so work it was!

The Goods!: New York Gets The Goods...It's Been Too Long! Our very own, Kim gets The Goods! Here she models her "Prowling Ass Outfit". Jungle dress and bitchin' boots!

M.I.S.S. NYFW: Falls Fall 2010 Collection

Falls Fall 2010 Collection

If there is one message Falls designers Leong Ong and Phillip Leeming want you to take away from their Fall 2010 collection it is “being one of the boys.” Falls’ latest not only incorporates menswear shapes but also has the spirit of pioneering, liberation, and making a mark as a lady amongst men. High-waist shorts and forties style trousers styled with oxfords and work boots reflect the influence of their muse: Lee Miller. Miller was a model turned combat photojournalist for World War II and the Falls presentation is inspired by her story and style.

Contrasting the menswear styling are silk chiffon, light dresses, and feminine detailed sweaters. Some pieces include ivy and oak leaf prints in shades of silver, pink, and plum. The updated floral prints were custom-made by the designers after seeing photographer Nick Knight’s book “Flora” and his use of shocking pinks and contrast in his images. The bright and feminine palette combines well over neutral greys and black to present a cohesive Fall collection.

Also combining both the masculine and feminine styling of Falls is their capsule collection of shoes. Three styles will be available for Fall 2010 in their first endeavor into shoes and in collaboration with Heutchy. Leather lace work boots, half biker boots, and classic oxfords are definitely borrowed from the boys with feminine twists including colors to match their floral print palette.

See photos below of the Falls Fall 2010 collection. For more from Falls, check out Shopbop.com, specialty department stores and boutiques across the U.S., or their website.

What I Want for the Holidays #13

What I Want for the Holidays #13

What I Want for the Holidays #14

What I Want for the Holidays #14

I’ve heard that tis’ the season for decking the halls, candy canes, and Christmas cheer, but for me the holiday season is about one very important thing: asking for and then hopefully receiving all the things I cannot afford on my own. It’s seriously THAT simple. This is about the only time of year, besides my birthday, that I can get away with asking for the ridiculously overpriced items that I absolutely NEED, and the ones I just don’t need at all. Since I’m older than 10, the illusion of Santa Claus has been shattered by the reality that my parents, siblings, and friends with REAL jobs have the ability to make my Christmas magical, and that my broke college student/pseudo freelancer salary can only go so far. So with that I present you the ridiculous items I asked for this Christmas. Let’s guess which one’s I actually get!

1) Apple 17-inch MacBook Pro: A couple months ago my computer crashed. And it took 3 years worth of pictures, music, term papers, and inspiration right along with it. When my computer crashed, my world went with it, so for the last 3 months I’ve been lobbying my parents, siblings, friends, companions, and even strangers for pesos towards a new laptop. Yea I could go out today and buy a PC right now if I really wanted to, but I’m don’t. Why? Because as anyone whose ever owned a Apple computer knows: Once you go Mac, you don’t go back. Too bad I don’t have $2,499 t0 shell out at my slightest whim. Damn you Steve Jobs!

2) MadeMe Leather Motorcycle Jacket: My list of lusts and obsessions expand and decrease on a daily basis, but of the few key items that have withstood the test of time, and my ADD, this MadeMe jacket has been numero uno on my list for a REALLY long time. Erin Magee subconsciously knows how to push my buttons, this jacket haunts my dreams and would look so perfect in my overflowing closet. Forget the fact that I probably wouldn’t be able to wear it until Mother Earth decides to stop kicking my ass with this 2o degree weather, I’d still probably find ways to wear it under my North Face with every outfit my imagination could conceive. Including the sweat pant get ups I rock when I’m feeling lazy. Yes. It’s that serious…

3) AlectoNyx Skull Cutout Tee: My good blogging buddy Cee makes these shredded tees by hand, and their beautiful! I’ve always been a fan, but since I’m cheap, I’ve never had the chance to be a customer. Her Etsy store is filled to the brim with her wonderfully manipulated garments, and this holiday season I’m itching to get my hands on this cutout skull tee.

4) George Esquivel Oxfords: I’m inspired mostly by menswear. Nothing gets my gears in motion like a nicely tailored look or smart shoes. This request is purely a label obsession. I’m sure I could get a great pair of oxfords somewhere for a reasonable price, but since my parental units, aunts, uncles, and grandparents encourage me to ask for what I want, I’m going for top of the line. George Esquivel please…

5) Silence and Noise Wool Band Jacket: I try to stay away from Urban Outfitters as much as humanly possible. There is WAY too many tempting items to spend my cash on, this wool band jacket being one of them. As soon as I saw it, I HAD TO HAVE IT. This is another one of those items I won’t be able to wear until Lord knows when, but like the MadeMe jacket, I’ll find a way.

Steve Madden Spring 2010 Preview

Steve Madden Spring 2010

Steve Madden Spring 2010

Here’s a look at the Spring 2010 collection from Steve Madden. The wedge profile continues to be a very strong shoe for this company for spring, making it onto shoes in multiple incarnations. We see it in denim, suede and espadrille. The espadrille itself is also very strong, as the roping that makes the style so distinctive, much like a vine  is climbing up the shoe, winding around the heels and up to the straps, dominating nearly every part of a shoes construction at some point.

This season also appears to be very focused on the ankle. We see ankle decoration on many shoes ranging from sandals, heels, booties and boots. Whether it’s braiding, chain decoration, straps, buckles, or slouchy leather, the ankle is definitely having it’s day.

The strongest color for the season appears to be blue, being used across a number of the styles, although we do have many options. An oxford wingtip style is also being utilized on two different shoes, one of them being a version of an androgynous tap-style shoe (which also has a woven version).

Like usual, Steve Madden tends to cover most of the major mainsrteam trends for the season, that’s what’s made them such a powerhouse brand over the past 20 years. Spring 2010 shouldn’t be much different. These shoes will start hitting Steve Madden stores, and retailers starting in January and February of 2010. I’ve got preview pics for the higher end Steven by Steve Madden collection coming shortly, so stay tuned.
