Playing with the Queen of hearts…wardrobe, that is, certainly shouldn’t hurt! With today’s much anticipated release of Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland”, we look towards Mad Hatters, (The) Mock Turtles and Queens of Hearts for style inspiration. The fantastical world of Wonderland offers up vibrant colors and whimsical shapes and patterns. From affordable finds from the Uniqlo x Disney Collection to pieces that might be a dip in the “rabbit hole”, like a Judith Leiber novelty purse, you can incorporate Rose Garden looks without looking like an extra from the set.

Here are looks and accessories that pay homage to Alice and The Queen of Hearts. The seasons bold blue finds it way into apparel and footwear and hearts are never out of fashion. Ruffled hosiery from Baroque and play your cards right with an adorable bracelet from Tatty Devine. You’ll be looking sharp from any tea party. Sorry, no mock turtle(necks) here.
With the opening of Alice in Wonderland around the corner, it seems like everyone is gravitating towards this “twisted tea party” theme: Stella McCartney will be designing a special collection of Alice-themed jewelry, Tom Binns is creating selection of oversized furniture and pieces adorned with teacups, and even beauty brands like O.P.I will be offering four new colors, in honor of this movie debut!
With that said, art.com has over 227 different images from various artists, these include portraits/posters from the original movie to the newest featured film that is about to release.

“Two Four looks at four decades of Latina culture through collected photographs and ephemera from the archive of life long 24th Street/Mission resident Sandy Cuadra as well as through preserved archival footage of the neighborhood from the 70s and 80s collected by Veronica Majano and the Mission Film Archive”. – Clare Haggarty(curator).
“Two-Four Home Girls, Circa 1980” The Tiny Locas, “You and I” dances, and the Low-rider cars represented rites of passage and the social scene for teenage girls in the early 1980’s in the 24th Street Mission neighborhood. The exhibition features photographs by Sandy Cuadra- a former Tiny Loca who has lived in the Mission for over 30 years- memories of dancing, cars, parties in the park, and tight friendships. In addition, footage from the Mission Film Archive (thanks to filmmaker Vero Majano) further activates the world of Low-riders and the “You and I” dances. Vintage posters to promote those dances, made by Mitchell Salazar, also hang in the gallery, and complete this nostalgic look into a particular period in the Mission that speaks to the former teenager in all of us.

“OPI was thrilled to walk the runway with these two designers for Fall 2010’s New York Fashion Week. Both Rebecca Taylor and Jason Wu presented gorgeous collections that were well received by the press.” Said Suzi Weiss-Fischman, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “No small detail went overlooked in Rebecca’s collection, and OPIMy Private Jet (a luxurious, deep black with a hint of sheen)perfectly complimented her sweet, yet edgy looks.”
Designer Jason Wu (most known for dressing First Lady, Michelle Obama), teamed up with TSE, for a limited edition capsule collection consisting of luxe cashmere pieces. To accompany the line, OPI Sand In My Suit (a frosted nude) was hand picked by Wu to match the glowing, luminescent look of the models’ makeup.
Added Weiss-Fischmann, ” It was wonderful to see how Jason brought his aesthetic to TSE and rounded out his collection with the classic, minimalist elegance of Sand In My Suit. Since many OPI shades are inspired by fashion and trends, it’s always a pleasure to see that inspiration reflected on the runway.”

Inspired by a city known for its expansive skyline, rich tradition, and “east meets west” mentality, OPI brings you The Hong Kong Collection. Says OPI Executive VP and Artistic Director, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann,
This beautifully fresh counterpoint – of old and new; tradition and innovation; elements of classic style and sharp, modern lines – is my color muse in this season of fashion reawakening.
The collection features vivid and diverse colors ranging from deep oranges (Hot & Spicy, A Good Man-darin Is Hard To Find), regal gold (Bling Dynasty), to a deep green (Jade Is The New Black) and of course, China’s luckiest shade: RED (Red My Fortune Cookie).
Sticking to their OWN tradition, OPI’s newest project is cleverly named and 3 Free (contains zero traces of formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP). The Hong Kong Collection will be available on Wednesday, February 3rd at professional salons, Beauty Brands, Trade Secret, and other retail locations for $8.50.
Urban Decay and OPI have released limited edition collections in honor of Tim Burton’s highly anticipated project, Alice in Wonderland. It was inevitable that along with the film would come some pretty amazing promotional items and lucky for us, they came in the form of makeup. The Urban Decay palette ($52) is an Alice in Wonderland rendition of the company’s Book of Shadows. All 16 shades come re-named (bright blue “Alice” and white hue “White Rabbit) to appropriately fit the film. In additon to the color, there are two 24/7 Eye Pencils and one mini version of UD’s infamous Primer Potion. This limited lovely will be available January 15th at Sephora, Ulta, and Macy’s stores.
OPI’s offering includes four limited edition polishes ($8.50), also cleverly named in accordance with Alice. There is “Absolutely Alice” (royal blue glitter), “Mad As A Hatter” (dense, multi-colored glitter), “Thanks So Muchness” (berry red, metallic shimmer), and “Off With Her Red” (bright red creme). The collection will be available at salons nationwide, as well as Ulta, Beauty Brand, Beauty First, and Trade Secret stores.
To call green nail polish simply a “trend” this year would be a complete understatement. From M.A.C Peppermint Patti to Chanel Jade, this lucky color is popping up EVERYWHERE from runways to ’round-the-way. With fall and winter usually calling for darker tones, COOL greens provide a modern and refreshing twist to the norm. I remember becoming obsessed with the shade the minute I spotted it during Chanel’s Fall 2009 shows. I incessantly began scouring every store for something similar and literally jumped for joy when Chanel decided to release the polish. Other brands soon caught on to the craze and now every top line has its rendition of the minty madness. If you STILL must quench your appetite for the dark side, let China Glaze Emerald Sparkle, M.A.C Beyond Jealous and Orly Enchanted Forest be your fix.
M.I.S.S. Techcessories: Dell and OPI Partner to Put Polish on Laptops
Sure, you can put lipstick on a pig, but wouldn’t you rather put nail polish on a laptop? The fine people at Dell think so as they have teamed up with the nail lacquer experts over at OPI to bring you 26 exciting, high-style OPI fashion shades to the color and artwork offerings available as options in the Dell Design Studio. Starting next month in the U.S. (and later on down the road for everyone else), those in the market for a new Dell Mini, Inspiron, or Studio laptop will be able to customize the lid with colors like “Kyoto Pearl”, “Rosy Pearl”, and “I’m Not Really A Waitress”. Seasonal colors will also be available, and since Christmas is right around the corner don’t be shocked to see options like “Dear Santa” and “Smitten With Mittens” (”Bitten By Kittens” didn’t make the cut, I’m afraid)). Either way you slice it, each color will add an additional $85 on to the cost of your custom built laptop. Just think of it as a pseudo-expensive manicure, only your computer will probably last a lot longer..

M.I.S.S. October 2009: Asics Hello Kitty Gel-Lyte III
Since Hello Kitty turns 35 this month we had to use this recent release from Asics for our October calendar. The Hello Kitty Gel-Lyte III brings us right back to middle school when you had to have a Sanrio or Lisa Frank notebook to be considered cool. The combination of the classic Hello Kitty red and white with tiny stars and patent leather, makes these a hit for sure. Of course we had to bring you guys a mani that put the spotlight on our favorite kitty and featured not only her adorable face but her initial and jumper pattern. Just for her birthday, we’ve decided to include original props celebrating Hello Kitty’s life from the 70s to the 90s. Check out our previous write-up on these instant faves for info on where and when to snag a pair.

M.I.S.S. Michelle's Beauty Pick of the Week: Get Dulled Up – With OPI’s Matte Collection
Quality nail polishes at an affordable price; that’s what OPI does best, and this week’s pick, OPI’s Matte Collection, is basically six of OPI’s most popular colors mattified, and includes my classic faves (Russian Navy, You Don’t Know Jacques!, and Lincoln Park After Dark). I recently received two of these haute polishes from my nail aficionado homegirl, Jessica, as part of a birthday gift, and I am absolutely smitten with their cool, yet playful look.
OPI’s Matte Collection looks edgy when used in conjunction with traditional shiny polish...
The matte colors look so edgy when used in conjunction with traditional shiny polish (think blue matte nail beds with shiny blue tips), but because matte polishes don’t adhere well to base coats and no longer look matte when a top coat is applied, their lasting power is limited to about two days of wear, after which the polish will lightly peel off nails. My personal favorites from the collection are La Paz-itively Hot, a hot pink perfect for what’s left of summer, and Russian Navy, one I’ll definitely be sporting come fall/winter 09. All I have to say is if you want these, get them soon, cause with all limited editions, they’ll be gone with the wind faster than you can say other people’s idiosyncrasies.
