Spring is finally here! After a wet, cold, windy and snowy winter (depending on where you live), it’s time to shed those heavy coats and sweaters for something softer, brightly patterned and definitely shorter! Cue NYC designer Rachel Roy and her eponymous line, RACHEL Rachel Roy, made up of contemporary sportswear, footwear and accessories to help you shed those winter blues and emerge a spring siren.
In her RRR Spring 2010 lookbook, Roy focuses on love and what it means for her and the models she chose to wear the collection. After just one look at the collection, you’d be hard pressed to find something NOT to fall in love with. Dark trenches and jackets have floral and patterned linings; suede jackets are deconstructed, loose and perforated; skirts, of course, are short and flirty, as well as gathered and fitted; tanks and tees are comfy and provide an interesting focal point when layering or on their own.
Rompers, fitted shorts and cargo pants and jumpsuits also make an appearance in the collection, which adds a rugged tone; however, the fit and fabric of the pieces add just enough feminine character that prevents them from looking too masculine.
And then there are the accessories. Chunky gold pieces that include chains, gremlins, skulls, birdcages, leaves, bees and natural stones are crafted into bangles, chains and earrings. Bold scarves, belts and totes complete the collection and stand out on their own, if they are the only selection you make from the collection.
My favorites in the collection are the Chain Strap Halter Dress, the Fringed Cardi, the Slashed Tank, the Perforated Suede Jacket and any and every shoe in the lookbook. Personal favorites aside, there’s not a look in the collection that you’d go wrong with. Roy has definitely succeeded in her mission of creating pieces that enable women to dress with “effortless elegance and confidence.”
As a special bonus for fans, additional footage from the RRR Spring 2010 photo shoot has been posted online. In it, you can find out what love means to each of the models featured in the lookbook, Julia Frakes, Ashley Bowman, Brandee Brown, Vashtie Kola and Nina Sky (who are both featured in Women Making History). Enjoy!

♥♥ Chic Steals does a carazy ill DIY of the Christian Louboutin for Rodarte spiked platform stilettos. Step up your game.
♥♥ I always wish my laundry smelled like doughnuts, or fresh bread or something else yummy. To hell with florals. Also, to hell with icky envelope gum. Now, thanks to Mmmvelopes, you can lick the Bacon. (Not Kevin.)
♥♥ Ever lie on a resume? Watch yourself. Patricia Field and company busted this trick ass buster for fronting, and put him on blast.
♥♥ I make fun of Justin Beiber all of the time cuz he sounds like a girl, and has hair like a lesbian contestant on Top Chef, but I saw him and Usher kick it with Ellen, he beat boxes and bangs a guitar like that kid in August Rush, and I can’t help but to sing along to “One Time”. He’s turning me. College Candy knows what I mean.

M.I.S.S. caught up with the ladies of Nina Sky at their recent NYC concert and we learned a lot… specifically relating to Subway Sandwiches. Who knew these beauties enjoyed the half-footers on the daily?! Oh, the things you learn when you have a camera in hand!
On the non-sandwich tip, peep the dope MadeMe leather jacket– apparently, the studs were put on by-hand in the park. DIY, MadeMe and Nina Sky style. We certainly aren’t mad at it!
Peep the latest episode of M.I.S.S TV to find out more of Nina Sky’s Ten Obsessions!
Two weeks ago, the ladies (and two fellows) of M.I.S.S. headed out to SOBs in Manhattan to peep performances from up-and-comers Nola Darling and dancehall turned DJ vets Nina Sky. We were lucky enough to sit down with the ladies of both groups and get their insights on everything from making it as a female in the world of hip-hop to why Subway sandwiches rule.
First up, Nola Darling. We brought you the scoop on these MCs back in June and were able to sit them down for a quick interview in their dressing room before the show. I think it goes without saying that they are awesome. Extremely awesome. Watch the episode of M.I.S.S TV below to find out why, and stay tuned next week for our episode featuring Nina Sky!
Leather motorcyle jackets, muscle tees, bomber jackets, denim studded vests, leggings, bike hats, and eye-patches – that’s just a sampling of the hotness that’s part of MadeMe’s Fall 2009 collection. Mes Amies, which in Français means my friends, stays true to its name by featuring some of Erin’s closest friends in the look book from stylist/dj Radio Rose, accessories designer Kerin Rose, to photographer Brooke Nipar and singing sirens Nina Sky.
“What better excuse to play dress up with all my friends?” Erin exclaims. “Each personality has helped in some way or another with building the MadeMe brand. I told everyone, ‘Come as you are,’ since we all happen to be really stylish and cute! The shoot was easy and I knew the personalities would reflect well on camera. I am really proud of everyone!”
Made Me Fall 2009 Preview
The look book was a collaboration with some of Erin’s friends helping with Radio Rose styling the shoot and Brooke Nipar behind the lens.
“MadeMe is a woman’s brand, but the purpose of this shoot was to show the world who’s behind the brand,” Erin reveals. “Girls, boys, gay, straight, black or white, we all come together to make MadeMe a really special project.”
Luckily, you don’t need to wait until September to cop these pieces because MadeMe is offering a pre-sale on its fall/winter preview on MadeMeClothing.com. FYI, all pre-sale orders will be shipped during the first week of September so don’t think their holding out on your goods if you just so happen to order your item(s) of choice today.
