Bambako: Haute Headwear Not for the Faint of Heart

Hippie headbands have been all the rage lately, undoubtedly thanks to the likes of Nicole Richie and Mischa Barton. Hell, even Kim Kardashian was spotted less than a week ago sporting some funky knotted headwear. But let’s face it… unless you’re a flower child (or happen to dress like one), pulling off a Woodstock-inspired head accessory can seem like you’re trying a little too hard. And to be quite honest, sometimes us ladies just want to look a little more glammed up.

Luckily for our heads (and wallets!) there’s Bambako head wear, a collection of unique and trend-setting headbands that are sure to add a punch of color or edginess to any drab outfit. With the amount of detailing that goes into each piece, you wouldn’t believe that the cost of many of the headbands hovers around the $15 mark. There’s a headband for every possible mood you could experience, whether that’s fun, flirty, daring, or even when you want to be dark and mysterious.

If you’ve never been a girl who’s into feathers, don’t be so quick to dismiss Bambako. The feather detailing is subtle, never over-the-top. While most of the pieces are adorned with the avian detail, there are others that are decorated with other fabrics and accessories, such as the “Slap That Bass” headband, which features silk and satin ribbon in the shape of a flower.

It’s hard to believe that Bambako was created just last month, in February of ‘09, after designer (and avid Martha Stewart fan) Abigail Ricarte graduated from college. A woman of many talents, Ricarte also has her own music blog, complete with inspiring photography and quotes. Between her blog and design abilities, Ricarte has definitely secured herself a spot on the style scene. So next time you’re stalking celebrities via gossip blogs, be on the lookout for Ricarte’s designs - don’t make us say ‘we told you so.’

Zac Posen’s Fall ‘09 Collection Boasts 21st Century Elegance

Zac Posen’s Fashion Week show was walked by some of the hottest faces in fashion today, including Coco Rocha, Chanel Iman, Alek Wek, and Jourdan Dunn to name a few. But let’s focus on what’s really important here: the pieces were magnificently crafted, evidence that Zac Posen and his team have been hard at work lately.

The looks featured various historical influences - think high-collared dresses and blouses, Marie Antoinette meets runway. Lately we’ve been seeing vintage influences in style, i.e. Nicole Richie’s boho chic type or ’50s Hollywood glamor, but few designers have incorporated influences into their pieces that date back centuries, especially when they’re not showing couture.

Dresses at Zac Posen featured not only bright hues but also colorful patterns to make for eye-popping outfits. Bright colors are normally reserved for spring, but rules are meant to be broken, right? One common feature throughout many of the looks was the overwhelming presence of volume from top to bottom. Volume doesn’t necessarily equal baggy, though; many of the dresses were cinched in the midsection for an ultra-flattering and form-fitting look. Zac Posen also proved that florals can be translated into autumn if you know how to wear them properly. Take for instance, Coco Rocha’s look: a floral printed skirt paired with a burnt-orange blazer . . . the best of both seasons!

If you thought you had seen it all in fashion, Zac Posen proved you wrong. Although the looks were elegant, they were wearable and relateable for the masses. No wonder Posen has such a huge celebrity following - his outfits can easily be worn to a club or to Starbucks for your daily coffee run.

When Is Enough, Enough?? More Celebrity Lines . . .

jessica simpson nicole ritchie

Just when you think that every possible celebrity spin-off clothing line has been established you hear about 13 more.  Jessica Simpson is adding lingerie to her product offering, for Spring 2009, that currently consists of footwear, handbags, sunglasses, swimwear and outerwear.  Her lingerie collection will include bras, undies, sleepwear, shapewear and daywear.  In addition to lingerie she’s launching a fragrance in August and a belt collection in the fall.  Busy lady!

Nicole Richie is also hopping on the celebrity-product-line-wagon with the launch of a new collection that she named after her daughter called House of Harlow.  The line will include accessories and jewelry and then move on to children’s apparel.  I actually like Nicole Richie’s style so I’m curious to see what she comes up with.  Hopefully, it will be true to her own aesthetic.  I also think it’s cool that she’s going to design children’s clothing - it’s an area that’s growing in popularity - shouldn’t kids have celebrity labels too?

What’s your take on all this?  Have you had enough of celebrity lines??
