Not just for the likes of Sherlock Holmes, the cape has turned up more than once on some of the industry’s top designer’s sketch pads for Fall 2010. Don’t fear this silhouette! The designers took different takes on this this retro shape. From traditional styles with welted arm slits to the to-die-for over sized poncho-esque (I said “esque”, poncho’s get a bad wrap, um pun intended) Barbour/Belstaff inspired creation from Viktor & Rolf, you can go goth with Valentino or lady like chic with Sonia Rykiel. See, something for everyone! You could even get away with an a-line shaped coat or jacket set on your shoulders…instant cape! So you have your motorcycle jacket, you’re getting your trench coat and now planning to top off your outerwear collection with a cape. You have about 5-6 more months to get used to this idea. Don’t be scared.

Eyes To The Sky, Ears To The Streets: The Hotness & The Hot Mess 2009

2009 proved to be a wild ride for most. With the economy in a state of craze, the “Recessionista”  was born and fashion savvy ladies were challenged to get creative and spend wise, perhaps looking towards one of the million high-low collaborations that launched this year or going green with vintage. We welcomed new style icons from lady-like First Lady Obama to the polar opposite goo-goo get-ups of Lady GaGa. Ed Hardy continued to bring shame to the House of Swarovski (crystals) while our favorite no-pants-wearing New Yorker Kerin Rose dazzled us with bling-blam-BONG! eye wear and her line, A-morir, bedazzling done proper. Green became the new grey in the world of nails diding and Minx made the Midas touch a reality. Gals all over the globe went TKO for OTK boots and the motorcycle jacket secured it’s place as a fashion staple. Why Linsay Lohan was appointed Artistic Advisor of anything, namely Ungaro, is beyond me. And let’s PLEASE leave “Jeggings” in 2009.

What will you take forth in 2010 and what will you leave behind?

Ears To The Street: The Blueprint For Your Fall Wardrobe.

In my travels to New York and Los Angeles in the past months I have noticed a contiuned consistent trend in ladies fashion. I have to say it kind of bores me because really, are WE still doing this??!!! But alas, the masses are and so to make sure you are up to trend here are a few things you MUST make sure you have in your Fall wardrobe…the blueprint for your fall wardrobe if you will ;)

Ears To The Street: The Blueprint For Your Fall Wardrobe.

Ears To The Street: The Blueprint For Your Fall Wardrobe.

1. The plain body con dress, with strong shoulders of course! I selected Alexandre Vauthier designed exclusively for Bon Marché Rive Gauche.

2. OTK boots, that’s over-the-knee. Not just for bikers and pirates anymore, perhaps a pair from Mr. Louboutain will keep you cozy this winter.

3. Leg coverings!! Let’s be real ladies, it’s winter and in many parts of the world that means it’s cold. Don’t be a ninny running around with bare legs!! Do show-off those lovely limbs of yours but might I suggest you keep them covered in some Wolford lace.

4. And lastly the gosh darm Motorcyle jacket. Will it ever go away? Doesn’t look like it will. So if your going to do it, I HIGHLY suggest a vintage one, something worn-in and aged to perfection or GOLD! This motorcycle jacket is from Etsy.

Ok, that’s it. No more talk of motorcycle jackets and body con dresses from me. Let’s move on to the next big thing ;)

The motorcyle jacket has become a true fashion staple in recent years. Sure some have been hip to this since Marlon Brando wore the Schott Perfecto in the movie The Wild Ones and of course true school Rock ‘n Rollers and Punk Rockers alike are no strangers to this garment. In the “trickle up” theory of fashion inspiration, you can say that designers took the motorcycle jacket from bikers and rockers…a place of function and a more street fashion and borrowed the look to incorporate into high fashion and high price tags. So ladies, if you have one, hang on to it…if you have been thinking about it, go forth and make the purchase. This is a garment that has become a go-to piece and is a fashion investment. The runway shows for Resort 2010 are offering different variations and versions. From leather classics to different colors and patterns, non-leather and shoulder details. A leather version gets better with time and wear.  So make a wise choice in your purchase and know you’ve have a timeless classic. No motorcycle necessary.

M.I.S.S. NYFW: Brooklyn Royalty SS09

One last post from NY Fashion Week…I was having a little difficulty with the picts and video!!! So, I had the chance to attend the SS09 showing of Brooklyn Royalty by Bob Bland. Held in a private loft in Bryant Park, the house was packed despite the 12 flights of stairs we had to walk up! Color’s were bright and the denim was tight for both the guys and gals. Denim was treated with full coverings of screen printed ink’s, acid hues where shown in tops, bottoms and swimwear and Bland even did her version of a wedding gown (in traditional fashion show last look’edness). Seems the motorcycle jacket is going to be a popular item for SS09 and Brooklyn Royalty’s cropped version and collar were some of my favorites! The SS09 collection also debuted the Brooklyn Royalty swimwear collection, which we’ll see after the jump. Good Luck lady!

See more picts and the final walk video after the jump!
