M.I.S.S. Techcessories: Sony x Disney S Series Walkmen

The Sony x Disney S Series Walkmen come in a rainbow of colors

It’s officially official: if you’re tired of drab electronics and want something bathed in an obscene amount of cuteness, you need to get up and haul arse to Japan.  After all, the country is only home to more Hello Kitty cell phones, digital cameras, and Mp3 players than you can shake a bundle of sticks at.  Feel free to add these recently released Disney x Sony S Series Walkmen to the kawaii gadgets pile.  The Sony S640 and S740 Walkmen already featured a decidedly mouse flavored control scheme on the front, but now you can make the connection more official with an engraved image of Mickey, Minnie, or the couple together gracing the back of your Mp3 player.  Each unit also has a 2 inch LCD screen, an FM radio, video playback capability, and an epic 42 hour battery life.  Sony has even managed to include some very capable noise canceling headphones with each player.  Available in a wide variety of hues, including black, green, gold, and violet ,the S640 and S740 each come in either 8GB or 16GB flavors with prices starting at 13,800 yen ($152) and going all the way up to 18,800 yen ($207).  Luckily, in this internet connected age, you can order these from the Japanese Sony Style store from the comfort of your futon.

Sneaker Freaker recently reported on the new Jeremy Scott and Mickey Mouse for adidas Originals sneakers which are currently on sale at a Korean online retailer called Kasina. The adidas El Dorado kicks are custom colored to match Mickey’s red overalls and yellow shoes. The over-sized tongue is Mickey Mouses face, making the shoe more of a novelty item. The kicks, which are priced at $128, first appeared in Jeremy Scott’s Fall 2009 RTW collection.

Costume Dept. Brings the Drama With Their AW ‘09 Collection

Costume Dept. presents Autumn/Winter 2009 lookbook

Costume Dept. presents Autumn/Winter 2009 lookbook

Costume Dept. has a new Autumn/Winter ’09 Look Book for that a$$ and they are definitely bringing the drama on this one. Like a true stage production, this line definitely involves playing dress-up. Each “costume” tells the audience a little bit about the character’s role, but in a true “show, don’t tell” fashion, the looks also rely heavily on the use of illusion. The sheer fabrics don’t give away the ending because they are in such dark colors (like the Women’s black Trench Top) while the nude, skin color fabrics are done in a thicker, t-shirt-like material, (shown with the Bustier Top and the Cuff Leggings). For most of the looks there are only subtle references to bare skin, but then they go and throw some real nudity in at the end to showcase the fabulous printed leggings. How theatrical of them!

The visual trickery continues in the line with a fancy Fringe Hoodie mimicking a burka, Good and Evil Leggings which channel Ms. Cruella Deville, and a men’s Mickey Tee which features the famous mouse’s widow’s peak as opposed to showing his ears (Note: good way to get out of obtaining a licensing agreement from Disney). The men’s Lapel Tee presents a new vision for formal wear, and we hope Costume Dept.’s version takes the place of the ubiquitous “tuxedo shirt” that has been the go-to for slackers for ages. The women’s Global Currency Tee is a twist on the typical logo t-shirt, because what looks just like another YSL joint is really a tee depicting currency symbols for the Yen, American dollar sign, and pound. Costume Dept. continuously manages to make you question what you are REALLY seeing – even right down to the models – who are all dressed in a non-gender-specific way.

The most famous set of ears is getting a designer makeover.  Teaming up for the celebration of Mickey’s Magical Party- yes ladies and gentleman, Disney’s MICKEY MOUSE – are designers Luella, Giles Deacon, and House of Holland (just to name a few).  Other celebrities on the list of enchanted activities include Daisy Lowe, Estelle, Geri Halliwell, and John Terry.  What do all these names have in common?  They are all creators of customized mickey ears. These newly designed ears are a part of Disneyland Resort Paris’s year long magical party that runs from April 4, 2009 to March 7, 2010. You can check out the designer ears throughout May, 2009, at London based boutique START .

If you can’t make it across the globe to get a glimpse at the Mickey ears, don’t worry!  From May 4 -28, 2009, the custom designer ears will be placed on an online charity auction Buy Once Get Twice. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to Disney’s Appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. It does’t get much better than a year long party in the happiest place in the world that can make a positive difference in someone’s life!
