Miles Alridge: Pictures for Photographs
Oh my opulence! The recent work of London-born photographer Miles Aldridge is dripping with vibrant, candy-coated decadence. Marking Aldridge’s first U.S. solo show, Pictures for Photographs features selected large-scale photographic works as well as drawings, and will be exhibited from May 28th through June 20th at Steven Kasher Gallery in NYC. You may recognize his photographic style from M.A.C’s cosmetic campaign, which Aldridge has collaborated on for years. I’m a big fan of the combination of the glossy, sexy, high-fashion look within an odd setting with playful elements; the goggle-wearing cat by the bathtub in Cat Story, for example, or the balloons in Capital Gains. Technically spot-on and visually gorgeous, Aldridge clearly has a handle on the intersection of fashion and art photography.
If you’re on the east coast, be sure to make the opening reception and book signing May 28th from 6-8 pm or purchase his monograph and other selected works through Steven Kasher Gallery.

The ultimate in getting girly! Stila Cosmetics teams up with America’s Beauty, Barbie for a collection of cosmetics set to drop this Spring. WWD reports that Stila will not only produce this collection but will be the cosmetics sponsor for Mattel’s first Barbie runway show during NY Fashion week next month. Here’s more on the launch:
The inaugural, limited edition line will make its debut exclusively at Sephora next month. It will be available at Sephora’s Fifth Avenue store in New York, international Sephora locations and at sephora.com only. The collection features four Decades of Beauty cans, each $40, with a booklet inside describing the beauty and fashion wardrobes for each doll. The first, #1 Ponytail Doll, celebrates the first Barbie, launched in 1959. It includes a red lipstick called Ponytail, a liquid eyeliner and a three-pan paper-wrapped compact with two eye shadows and a cheek color. Malibu Barbie, which highlights the doll of the same name that launched in 1971, has a pale pink Lip Glaze called Malibu, a black mascara and a compact with two eye shadows and a bronzer. Foxy Doll, which depicts the African-American Barbie launched in 1980, includes a Lip Glaze called Foxy, mascara and a compact with two eye shadows and a cheek color. The final offering, Jewel Doll, is based on the 2000 Barbie of the same name and includes a bright pink Lip Glaze called Jewel, a Multi-Effect Mascara and a compact with two eye shadows and a cheek color.
Hopefully this collection will follow the success of the MAC x Barbie collection form 2007, which reportedly generated more than $9 million in retail sales. I wish the resale value of Barbies fetched the same, as I’m selling off my extensive collection in hope to trade-up for big girl toys!

Back in August, we let you in on a little rumor about a possible M.A.C. x Hello Kitty collaboration. We’re happy to say that the rumors are true and this collection is a reality!! The new collection will release on the M.A.C. website on February 10th, in U.S. stores on February 12th and overseas in March. There’s an expected high demand for these products and M.A.C. will begin taking preorders on the items beginning January 7th on the M.A.C. site. The collection is split up into 2 subcollections: Hello Kitty Colour Collection and the more high-end Hello Kitty Kouture. The collections include eyeshadow quad palettes, blush, lip glosses, eyeliners (with glitter of course!), as well as non-cosmetic items like a tote bag, cosmetic bag, Hello Kitty plush doll, mirror and make-up brushes. The in-store visual displays were shot by none other than Nick Knight. I can’t wait to see his images, they are always so amazing! And, I can’t wait for this line to drop! I think I’ll be putting in my pre-order on January 7th . . . the early bird gets the worm!

My gadget advisor shared with me that Apple is releasing new Notebooks today. I could have used this info 4 months ago when I bought a new Macbook Pro…but I feel very confident that I will be notified of these things in a more timely manner now…thanks to my G.A. I digress, my apologies, so yes, today Apple is releasing new versions of the MacBook and MacBook Pro. Both are said to be all aluminum and although the thought of an $800 MacBook (this was an early rumor) made me really happy, it seems that was too good to be true. The above photo is only a concept image but leaked picts of an actual MacBook Pro can be viewed here. Get all the juicy details from the techno pros at Gadget Lab.

I love lipstick. I’ve always wished I could be one of those girls that could pull it off, but alas, I’m not. But it I were, I would wear every shade of red from the brightest fire engine reds to the deepest, darkest reds. This fall season, MAC has the perfect reds for you - all revolving around the cult of cherry. From bright red cherry to black cherry, MAC has the deliciously sweet shades of the “cult of cherry.” The complimentary eye palettes all feature dark chocolate-y colors to balance out cherry shades. You can purchase the collection online here. You should also check out the “Cult of Cherry” video featuring a cameo by designer Erin Fetherson here.

Had enough of the 80s flashbacks? Put away your leggings, neon and oversize tees - the next revival is here and it’s all about the 1970s. Think disco at Studio 54, David Bowie and Glam Rock, Charlie’s Angels feathered hair and Led Zeppelin and their groupies. The 1970s were known for glamorous makeup and MAC has all the products you need to get the look here. I’m so excited for this look! I just got a new disco dress and now I know where to get the makeup to match. Now, I just need some disco dancing shoes!

M.I.S.S. ladies are not ones to gossip, but I just read about this and I couldn’t help myself because it involves two of my favorite brands. Word on the street is that Mac may be teaming up with Hello Kitty for their newest collaboration. Mac representatives would neither confirm or deny the rumors, though based on their past collaborations with Fafi, Heatherette and and upcoming October project with Emanuel Ungaro, it seems very likely. I hope they do this it would be soooo kawaii!!

I love eyeliner. Love it with a capital L-O-V-E. And I’ve always loved that vintage 60’s Twiggy look, also rocked by Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen and my beloved Estelle. Whilst i find dear Wino’s a little too dramatic, i too love mine thick and in ya face!

Find out how i get my look after the cut!
