A few months back we mentioned that Sofia Coppola was designing a capsule collection of shoes and bags for Louis Vuitton. The collection has debuted and it’s now available in Louis Vuitton stores. My favorite pieces are the clutches - from the larger clutch in the signature LV monogram canvas, to the smaller, suede, evening styles, they can be used on their own, or for those bag-within-bag moments.
To accompany the release of the collection Louis Vuitton has a slideshow with photos of Sofia and the development process, along with some of Coppola’s quotes. The collection is not available for sale online, but the slideshow is definitely worth checking out.

The economic downturn did not nothing to stop the luxury from oozing out of each and every piece in the Louis Vuitton Fall ‘09 collection. Normally, I just check out the accessories, but the clothes this season are so fun! There was a bit Madonna in the ’80s, with a dash of the Mary Jane Girls and a touch of a femme fatale from the 1940s (think suits). Marc Jacobs cited French glamour from the 80s as inspiration and it shows with lots of ruching, ruffles, bubble skirts and peplum jackets. The accessories were amazing. Giant necklaces looked were reminiscent of paper chains from school days. The heels were towering in an array of luxurious fabrics like lace and velvet with pearls on the heels and thigh-high boots that would have made “Pretty Woman” proud graced the runway. The final touch of class came in the form of leather fingerless gloves opera gloves - ruched, studded and in different colors.
The bags are stunning, particularly the black/gold/beige combos. Words can’t describe the beauty - chains, embossed leather, new treatments, gilded monograms, leather ruffles - it’s all there. The eye glasses were a nice surprise and are some of the most unique frames I’ve seen in some time. Since the clothing and accessories were big statement pieces the hair and makeup was kept pretty low key. Hair was upswept (some with dramatic headpieces ready to take flight) and makeup was minimal with black eyeliner and neutral lips and cheeks. All of this was set off against a gold backdrop and music reminiscent of the 80s sound. See it for yourself!
If you’ve spent any time on M.I.S.S., then you know how we feel about the choice of Madonna for the Louis Vuitton campaign, and her range of poses. That said, we always love a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a photo shoot and product campaign. You get to see Madonna and Marc Jacobs interact, hear about how Marc chose Madonna, and see the gorgeous array of Louis Vuitton bags and accessories just waiting to be plucked for use in the shoot. “I Die!” Read the full story to see more stills.
Marc Jacobs revealed his pre-fall collection for Louis Vuitton and it’s definitely got a 1940’s swing feel to it. Inspired by a book of wartime fashion, MJ came up with a collection that is flirty and feminine, yet strong and bold at the same time. I absolutely adore the silhouettes from the 1940s and MJ certainly does them justice with his luxurious interpretations. His black cocktail dress is timeless and elegant, and his wool trousers and school boy jackets are sophisticated and charming. They’re the kind of pieces I want in my closet and would look great season after season. I’m also loving how the clothing was styled - the trouser socks, belt, the head pieces, fur, gloves and brooches - all complete the retro look. No close ups yet on the accessories (but from here those shoes are looking pretty insane!) but we’ll keep you up to date on those all-important pieces.
Sofia had this to say about the collection to WWD:
“To start, I wanted to make a bag for myself and then we talked about making a little capsule collection. My friends and I are always searching for the perfect day bag. It fits all your things but isn’t too big and isn’t too heavy.”
The SC Bag, comes in four versions: one in dark gray suede, two in calf leather in dark blue and burgundy and one in LV’s signature monogram canvas.
NYC’s William Yan provided this sneak peek photo of the graffiti covered Louis Vuitton store in SoHo. As we reported yesterday the entire exterior and interior of the store will be transformed à laStephen Sprouse. If you’re in NY do yourself a favor and check it out IRL!
Speaking of practicality, how about this LV x Stephen Sprouse Skatedeck? Talk about “kick-pushing” in style! As part of the much anticipated LV x Sprouse collection, this beauty could be yours for a drop-in-the-bucket price of $8, 250. This piece along with the collection in its entirety will be available at the SoHo boutique on Thursday. The complete worldwide launch will follow on Feb. 2, though the Rose pieces will be available at Louis Vuitton stores worldwide starting Friday. This limited edition piece along with a limited edition Rose t-shirt will only be available at the SoHo location for the launch. Here’s what LV has to say:
The company hopes to sell three graffiti skateboards with trunks for $8,250 each, and 70 T-shirts for $250 each. “I don’t expect them to last very long,” Lalonde said. “By Friday, there probably won’t be any more left.”
If you are lucky enough to be in NYC make-sure to stop by the SoHo store to peep it’s transformation into a Stephen Sprouse wonderland! Complete with an interior and exterior bombed in neon spray paint, this is surely to be eye-candy not to miss. Proceeds from the sales of the Sprouse Collection will go to a worthy cause:
Sales will benefit Free Arts NYC, which provides under served children throughout New York City with special arts programs. Vuitton is also making an undisclosed donation to the Sprouse Estate, as well as the Stephen Sprouse Memorial Scholarship Fund at the National Academy for Design here (New York).
I’m hoping that LV teamed up with a reputable skateborad manufacture to produce these decks…although I doubt that those wheels will ever hit the pavement, for authenticity’s sake it would be nice to know. Nobody likes a poser. So, if you have pockets deep like Kanye or Pherrell (which I could see two of the three decks going to the likes of these gentlemen), then by all means, do it!! This deck would look so good next to my Chanel basketball *sigh*
In anticipation of the second coming of the Stephen Sprouse x Louis Vuitton collection, a new site was launched called We Love Sprouse that has everything you would every want to know about the partnership between the luxury goods company and the artist/fashion designer. From runway show footage of the original collection, look book of the new collection and interviews with Marc Jacobs, you can learn more about the project, the artist and the amazing new products to come. The site has a lot of personality and does a good job of bringing the project to digital life. From videos, to a boom box with some of Sprouse’s favorite tunes, you really get a sense of the world that Stephen Sprouse lived in. I can’t wait for this collection to drop. The neon glow in the dark treatment is pretty crazy and I’ve never seen anything like that for LV. My favorite pieces from what I’ve seen are the heels and the jewelry. I’m not really a leggings girl, but I even like the leggings. If you want to check out some of the video interviews and see more of the collection, read the rest of the story.
I’ve gotten used to boys having the better pick of kicks, but Louis Vuitton too?? Why, why why is the Damier Graphite available only in the “men’s” collection? It makes no difference to me. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve bought “men’s” bags from LV and I’ll do it again. Luckily, many of these pieces can work into any woman’s ensemble, though my little feet aren’t big enough to fit into the sneaker which I love. Many of the ladies may love the Damier Azur, but I don’t, I choose Damier Graphite. Read the full story
Louis Vuitton has some new goodies that I want, want, want! It’s not fair! They make so many things I want, I can’t seem to get tired of the LV, and the many different manifestations of the infamous initials. My most recent must haves include the Louis Vuitton book, the leopard scarf, flower ring and hair barrette. My favorite on the page, and something I’ve set my sights on are the Clous stud earrings. They are so simple and perfect, I could see myself wearing them everyday. The holiday offerings are so beyond amazing, I went back on the site to credit pieces and I found even more amazingness. Other favorites include the Flocon de Neige cashmere mittens with pompoms, the bathrobe, and my favorite hat of the season: the Igloo Chapka made from quilted monogram silk with rabbit fur lining. Gorgeous! If Santa’s listening, any of these LV pieces would make me a very happy girl, indeed. Read the full story
