Check In At MotelRocks.com

If you’re born and bred in America, you probably know that European style is embraced in almost every form… from BMW cars, Ikea furniture, and H&M clothes. So, it would be ironic if you’re residing in America and find yourself coveting clothes from the UK-based brand Motel, which was born from an inspiring trip to the west coast thrift shops of the U.S.  Motel is a label that churns out  killer clothes sold at moderate prices. Their mission is to re-create that feeling of rummaging through racks of second hand clothes and scoring a sweet vintage piece that fits just right, except you won’t have to rummage and worry about second hand funk because everything is cute and new!

Selina and Pammy dresses

Selina and Pammy dresses

Motel’s most notable pieces are their dresses: cinched at the waist, with a skirt that flares out or fits to your thighs and hips, and comes in a variety of fun prints that Kelly Kapowski would find worthy for strutting the halls of Bayside High. Even Lily Allen is a fan of the simple yet spunky Zoe dress by Motel. The spunk isn’t limited to the dresses of course. Motel has tons of tops and bottoms that have a vintage look. Go to MotelRocks.com to check out the clothes or if you live in or around Bristol, UK swing by the shop at 24 Park Street.

“Not Fair” by Lily Allen: New Video!

English woman attempts American folk?? Okay, so you already know it’s Lily Allen! She premiered her latest video Not Fair this Saturday. According to the Allen News, “Not Fair” is “one that Dolly Parton herself would be most proud of.”

I’m thinking cowgirls, rodeos, buckles, and wranglers . . .  my impression of a southern fantasy! It makes sense for the theme of the video to match the sound of the song (which sounds a bit like a classic western.) Seriously, listen closely and I promise there is a hint of banjo!

“Not Fair” is about an ideal relationship on the basis of respect, love, and maturity. But when it comes down to business in the bedroom, nothing is the least bit of wild. What’s a girl to do but sing, “It’s not fair!!” This song is a genius look into the female blues and goes to show that no one can have it all.

Be sure to check out the video below to be part of the hoe-down fun!

No Fear, Lily Allen’s Remix Is Here!!!

Nothing says you’re gonna have a great day like a song that sets the happy mood!! That’s the first thing that comes to mind after hearing Automatic Panic v. DJ Cat’s remix of Lily Allen’s The Fear.

It has the electronic rhythm commonly heard on full blast when out shopping and could just as well be played at a house party.  Automatic Panic succeeds in adding their edgy beats on the already mesmerizing tune without taking away what Allen has already delivered.  Click here to download the remix!

We Got The Beat: It’s Not You, It’s Definitely Lily

This week, Lily Allen dropped her sophomore effort with It’s Not Me, It’s You. Maturing greatly from her debut Alright, Still where she took us through the streets of London, brawls outside of the club and the wicked mindset of a scorned ex-girlfriend - Lily is now taking a totally different road.

The album starts off strong with “Everyone’s At It,” talking about the influence of drugs and how it’s so easy these days just to get a prescription for a pill. “The Fear,” “22,” “F**k You” and “Him” also touch on issues dealing with society, politics and religion over mid-tempo melodic beats and hypnotizing harmonies.

Of course the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to relationships are laced throughout the album with tracks like “I Could Say,” “Back To the Start” and “Never Gonna Happen.” Shining songs in this category are “Not Fair” about the perfect boyfriend who just can’t satisfy in bed, and “Who’d Have Known,” exploring the fine line between being friends and a blooming romantic relationship.

The closing song “He Wasn’t There” ends on a paternal note where she brings to light the hardships she faced with the lack of her dad’s (Keith Allen, a British actor) presence in her life, yet she’s delightfully sings “I’m so pleased/ I didn’t give up on him.”

Well, I’m happy with all that Lily has faced during her miscarriage, broken relationships alcohol/drug incidents that she hasn’t given up her music and the fans haven’t given up on her.

From Russia With Love Pt.2 - Chanel Matroyshka Doll Purse

A few weeks ago Lily Allen was spotted out and about with the Russian Doll Clutch from Chanel’s Pre Fall Collection entitled “Paris to Moscow.” Karl Lagerfeld incorporated the doll into some of the collection’s accessories but the clutch is definitely my favorite. It is being reported that the clutch’s price tag is £2,500, which is about $3,700 U.S dollars. Yikes! I might have to sell a kidney to afford it, unlike Lily Allen who is rocking it well. It is a huge step up for her since her last Chanel look . . . We love you Lily . . . just no more homemade Chanel. K thanks;)

P.S. - Lily Allen’s It’s Not Me, It’s You dropped yesterday!  You can get your copy here. Check out the video below where Lily talks about her new album.

We Got The Beat: Lily Allen, “The Fear”

Earlier this month Lily Allen released a track, The Fear, from her new album It’s Not Me, It’s You that’s dropping in February. The Fear is lighthearted bubblegum pop song that highlights Lily’s sweet voice and clever lyrics. The video is eye candy for girly girls - candy, and presents and balloons. It actually felt like it was influenced by Sofia Coppola’s Miss Dior Cherie commercial and Marie Antoinette. The Fear has a bit of a different sound from her first album, but I’m definitely excited for the release of It’s Not Me, It’s You.

Lady in Pink….

lilyallenbambi-dress.jpg   How fabulous is Lily Allen’s fit? The pale pink dress has a repeat print of Bambis getting their throat slit.  Awesome.  She wore this dress at the UK’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards Ceremony.   She received the Editor’s Special Award in recognition of her career as a singer, TV presenter, and style queen.I’m not sure if I love her with the pink hair, but either way, she seems to pull it off.  And I have to respect the fact that she did it herself.  Commenting on her new hair color, Lily said: “I did it myself in the bathroom. I’m happy with it.”
