Project Runway Season 7 Premier on Lifetime, Jan. 14 10p/9c
Project Runway Season 7 is just around the corner and back in the Big Apple. With the promise of new challenges, eccentric contestants, and drama, it looks like season 7 will definitely be one to watch. It’s always exciting to see the aesthetic of each designer unfold as they go through the challenges. After a quick view of the designer portfolios, I’ve already got a favorite–Amy Sarabi’s work is impeccable! But of course, I’ll have to wait until the show begins to see if she’ll be that one you love to hate, because when the competition gets going, the lengths people go to win can get intense.
Catch the Season 7 premiere of Project Runway this Thursday, Jan 14 @ 10/9pm central on Lifetime.

Paris-Shanghai: The Trip That Coco Chanel Only Made In Her Dreams
Today Paris-Shanghai: The Trip That Coco Chanel Only Made In Her Dreams, a short film written and directed by Karl Lagerfeld, premiered online. The film opens in the 1950s with Coco Chanel having tea with the Duchess of Windsor who notices Chanel’s Chinese art collection and then tells Mlle. Chanel about her adventures in Shanghai. After their brief meeting, Chanel takes a nap and has a series of dreams where she visits Shanghai at different periods in history – the 1960s, 1940s, 1930s, 1920s and the Imperial Court period. I’m thinking that’s a clue to the periods of time that Karl Lagerfeld may have found inspiration for the collection – we’ll find out tomorrow.
The film is interesting because it’s actually filmed in Coco Chanel’s apartment but there were little things that irked me. Chanel has a french accent when speaking English as a young woman, but no accent as an adult…where did the accent go?? (They had this same issue in the Liftetime movie). Also, a big pet peeve was that they had Chanel familiar faces like Freja Beha and Baptiste Giacobini play Chinese characters. Sorry, black winged out eyeliner doesn’t make a person Asian, and is up there with Black Face in my eyes – I’m just sayin’. I’ll try to ignore the aspects I don’t like for now and channel my energy into being excited about seeing the collection tomorrow – stay tuned!
The 16 designers competing to be the next winner of Project Runway
How fans of Project Runway were able to survive a year without hearing Tim Gunn say “Make it work!” or Heidi Klum’s bitter-sweet “Auf wiedersehen,” we will never know. What we do know is that the battle between Lifetime and Bravo is over and your favorite fashion design reality show is back! Lifetime has released a clip introducing the 16 designers competing to win. The batch of contestants look promising enough for an interesting season of Project Runway, let’s just hope the assumption sticks!
If you’re wondering about any differences in the show besides the obvious network switch, Project Runway has moved set from Parsons in New York to FIDM in Los Angeles but the finale still takes place in Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week. There’s also a new show within the show, Models of the Runway, which will give a behind-the-scenes look into the competition and drama going on amongst the models for the designers.
The sixth season is set to premiere on Lifetime August 20th, 2009 at 10pm et/pt.
Winners of previous Project Runway seasons - this could be you!
Fashion reality show, Project Runway, is scheduled to hit the airwaves after a long industry dispute over its move from NBC cable outlet, Bravo, to the Lifetime network. It’s been settled that the show will move to Lifetime and will return to New York for filming. Season six, or the lost season, was filmed in Los Angeles yet failed to air due to legal issues. Castings are being held in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Seattle. Show us what you got! Season seven has been long anticipated! My only question is, does anyone tune into Lifetime?

I was just checking out the Golden Globe nominations and I am in shock and disbelief that Shirley MacLaine was nominated, for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television, for her portrayal as Coco Chanel in the made-for-tv movie of the same name. Really? Is she that deserving? If I remember correctly, she was in about 15 minutes of the film. Her dialogue consisted of reciting a string of quotes attributed to Coco Chanel. And, the icing? She didn’t even have a French accent! When Coco Chanel premiered I was pretty vocal about how disappointing MacLaine’s portrayal of Chanel was. To see her nominated for such an uninspiring performance is almost insulting. I’m just sayin’.
Karl Lagerfeld directed a 10-minute silent film, documenting the early years of Gabrielle Chanel, to coincide with a showing of Chanel’s Paris-Moscow, a luxury pre-fall ready-to-wear collection. The homage was fitting since her early years were heavily influenced by French men, and Russian men, alike. The film was shot in 2 days and rather than use extras, Lagerfeld recruited actual workers from the atelier. “I cannot take extras,” Karl stated. “They don’t know how to touch the clothes.”
The idea of a silent film is really new, even though the method itself is a bit antiquated. In a time when we’re constantly bombarded with technology, it’s quite refreshing to sit back for a minute in silence and just watch. “Today, people are ready for silent movies again, as they spend time — hours, I would say — looking at text messages and e-mails,” Karl stated. “I always loved silent movies.” It seems like this is the year for Chanel on film, first Lifetime, now this, and next year the feature film. I cannot wait to see this – I feel like with Karl directing this ship, it will be the most accurate, (and probably best looking), portrayal of Mlle. Chanel’s early life. The show and mini-film will be shown tonight in Paris.

A while back we reviewed Lifetime’s Coco Chanel made-for-tv movie, and it was clear from our readers and from our search engine results, that the ladies love Olivier Sitruk, the French actor who played Coco Chanel’s amour, Boy Capel. When we saw how much the ladies liked Mr. Sitruk, we did a small story on him. Little did we know that it would be our most popular story ever, with women from all over the country making M.I.S.S. the unofficial spot to get together and share their Olivier Sitruk discoveries. This got us thinking, why don’t we contact him and see if he’ll do an interview? To our surprise and delight, not only did Olivier get back to us, he gave us the honor of interviewing him. After several emails and weeks, we are happy and excited to present our interview with Olivier Sitruk. . .
How did you get your start in acting?
I got my start in acting by studying! In NICE, the place where I was born, and after in PARIS. Of course I was not already paid for acting but my passion and destiny start at this time. I start on stage, I work in prison or with handicap people and make my first movie in 1992. In this movie, I was dying after 5 minutes, in the second one after 30 . . . now I die at the end!
Did you know about the man ‘Boy Capel’ before you auditioned for his part?
No, and not a lot about COCO CHANEL also, but there is so many book about her!
*I know proper grammar dictates the use of the word “were” not “was” but the title is a tongue in cheek reference to the song Rich Girl song*
I’m infatuated! While many ladies are crazy for Olivier Sitruk, the actor who played Boy Capel in Lifetime’s Coco Chanel, I’m obsessed over the Chanel tights that are white in the front and black in the back with interlocking C’s at the ankle (pictured above). I want them so badly that the other night I had a dream about them: I was at the Chanel store and they didn’t have my size – gasp! I was relieved to find it was only a dream but I still woke up sans Chanel tights. Luckily, the Chanel Fall/Winter 2008 Collection just released and is in stores now. Check out more pictures from the Fall 2008 campaign and my favorite pieces that I would get “if I were a rich girl.”
I love the black cuff! And the charm bracelet with black and white pearls and shoe, Cs and purse charms is insane!
It seems that it wasn’t just Barbora Bobulova who stole the show from Shirley MacLaine in Lifetime’sCoco Chanel made-for-TV movie. After I wrote my review, I have received LOTS of requests to find out more info on the mysterious and handsome actor who played Boy Capel, Chanel’s love of her life. The man in question is Olivier Sitruk, a French actor with piercing brown eyes and Mediterranean complexion. It’s your lucky day ladies, if you want to see more photos of the dashing actor check out his site here. Unfortunately it’s in French but click on “galeries” to view photos. For a listing of his past works check out imdb here. I hope that helps and quenches the thirst you have for Olivier Sitruk! Hopefully the French man will play more U.S. roles.
Last night I tuned in to Lifetime’s Coco Chanel, the story of the rise of one of the greatest fashion designer’s ever. Not only a fashion icon, Gabrielle Chanel is an inspiration to women and is the embodiment of the “modern woman,” a woman fiercely independent with a strong will and desire to achieve her dreams. I had expressed some doubt as to the casting, Ms. MacLaine as the grand dame of fashion was a bit of a stretch for me, but I tuned in nonetheless. If it’s about Chanel, I’m there! The film was about Mademoiselle’s youth and her rise from orphan to successful, independent designer. Barbora Bobulova played the “young chanel” and I think she did an amazing job. She had a believable French accent, resembled the young Gabrielle and gave life to Chanel’s struggles and emotions. I wish they aged Ms. Bobulova with make-up (as they did her cousin Adrienne) rather than cast Shirley MacLaine as Chanel. In a word, she was awful. Somehow, with age, Chanel lost her French accent. MacLaine didn’t even attempt a French accent – if she did it was barely noticeable. She sounded like a “hat check girl” in a Chanel costume and her lines were Chanel quotes strung together as “dialogue.” Thankfully, the film actually starred Barbora Bobulova and not Shirley MacLaine as the film was promoted. The film concentrated on Chanel’s youth with bits of older Chanel (MacClaine) telling her story. Though I detested the parts with MacLaine in it (I swear, it was really that bad), I actually did enjoy the film and it was wonderful to see Chanel’s early rise brought to life. I would definitely recommend viewing this, though you may want to plug your ears for the MacLaine lines, and if you missed it last night, tune in tonight to Lifetime at 7 pm.
P.S. – It seems like a lot of ladies are wondering who played the handsome Boy Capel – we’ve investigated for you and it’s Olivier Sitruk.
