Women Making History: Kelly B. of Princess of the Posse

For today’s Women Making History feature, we honor Kelly B. of Princess of the Posse.

Since the launch of their first collection out of NYC in the Spring of 2008, Princess of the Posse has quickly gained worldwide recognition. This fashion forward women’s brand offers limited runs each season, creating designs that swing freely between art, fashion, glamour and street. This Spring season Princess of the Posse returns to the basics, presenting a collection showcasing the simplicity and beauty of black & white.

Here’s what Kelly has to say about the collection:

This collection was inspired by the minimalism of Berlin street fashion & the allure of French royalty. Always reflecting upon their NY state of mind, P.O.P. honors some of their favorite musicians (Santogold and Ghostface Killah) by citing lyrics that inspire the designers. Princess of the Posse continues to bring you the best in quality fabrics and silhouettes with all the printing and cut goods made in NYC.

We have a lot more with Kelly B., after the jump, including a handwritten survey and M.I.S.S. Crew Q&A!

Younity Heart & Soul Exhibition

Younity held it’s Heart & Soul exhibition this weekend, a gathering of artwork made by creative women.  If you missed the event, no worries, you can see the exhibit through November 14th.  Not only did Younity put together an exhibit, they got the ladies together to paint some wall out in 5 Pointz, the infamous graffiti destination.  Toofly, one of the founders of Younity, did an amazing job of documenting the wall painting, the exhibit and the after-party.  Check out her site to see more flicks!  Congrats to the ladies on doing such a beautiful job and breaking stereotypes that women can’t work together!  Pics of Toofly and Lady Pink pieces after the jump.

Heart & Soul open until November 14th

Wild Style 25th Anniversary

powerHouse Books announces the Los Angeles launch of…

“Wild Style The Sampler” by Charlie Ahearn

25th Anniversary of “Wild Style’s” Theatrical Release
Thursday, September 4th, 2008 at 8:00pm
Cinefamily/The Silent Movie Theatre
611 N. Fairfax, Los Angeles

In 1982, Charlie Ahearn wrote, directed, and produced a small, independent movie that released a year later. It went on to become the first film to unite the underground urban art forms of hip hop culture (DJing, MCing, b-boying, and graff writing). “Wild Style” is a classic, having inspired countless artists, musicians, and writers with unforgettable scenes starring legendary graffiti writers, DJ’s, MC’s, and b-boys. It’s definitely one of my favorite films.

To celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary, “Wild Style The Sampler” provides an in depth look at the making of the film, it’s release, and the stir it caused around the world. It features never before published photos, original artwork, production stills, and personal stories from stars Fab 5 Freddy, Lee Quinones, Lady Pink, Zephyr, Patti Astor, Busy Bee, Grandmaster Caz, Frosty Freeze, and Glenn O’Brien. You can even get your book signed by Charlie Ahearn at the event!

Stay for the after party on location with DJ Cut Chemist and other guests.
