Flud Watches Spring/Summer 2009 Catalog

Flud Watches Spring/Summer 2009

Flud Watches Spring/Summer 2009

The good folks over at Flud have just dropped their Spring/Summer 2009 collection and campaign, and needless to say each piece from the assortment is arm candy you’ll be coveting, whether it’s for yourself or if you need to gift a friend with something funky and fabulous. Additionally, this season Flud steps up its look book game by enlisting the assistance of various artists and athletes to model the latest additions to the Flud family. Peep the look book where you’ll find Amanda Diva, Rocksmith Partner Erik Marion, director Rik Cordero, pro skater Rob Campbell, emcee Corey Gunz, DJ Neil Armstrong, Cee, photographer Joe Conzo, and DJ Grand Wizard Theodore all showing off Flud’s watches.

Now onto the goods! If you had to sum up Flud’s S/S09 collection in one word, variety is probably the most appropriate. There’s (literally) a piece for every type of personality, and for under $100 apiece you might as well scoop up a few to match your different get-ups. (Remember, you need accessories for both formal and informal outfits, etc., etc.) Flud keeps it hot this spring with a twist on traditional watches - it’s a 21st-century take on a timeless accessory. To give you just a taste of what Flud’s offering this season, there’s the “Tableturns” watch, with a face that’s depicts a classic turntable. (Genius!) Staying with the music theme, there’s also the “Boombox” watch, resembling - you guessed it - a boombox! For those of us who can’t decide which watch face we like more (dialog or analog), Flud solves this dilemma with the “Dialog.” Available in four hues, the “Dialog” features both a digital and analog reading. Other notable pieces from this collection include the graffiti-themed “Jaes” watch, styled after a graffiti wall clock and featuring markers as hands as well as a croco-leather strap. The highly anticipated “Deck” features a Griptape detail; it’s a clean and sleek accessory that’ll go perfectly with any outfit you’re wearing, whether you’re heading to the office or to happy hour.

By now we’re sure that you’re sick of reading about Flud’s watches - we know you wanna actually see what all the fuss is about - so peep the entire Flud look book and make sure you stay up-to-date with the Flud blog! All the Flud styles will be available at Karmaloop.

Karmaloop TV Presents: An Interview with Danny Boyle

Karmaloop TV Presents: An Interview with Danny Boyle

If you revel in the cinematic genius that is Trainspotting and 28 Days Later like I do (Ewen McGregor? Zombies? What’s not to love?) then you’ll want to check out Karmaloop’s mini-interview with director Danny Boyle. Boyle speaks about the experience of making the tremendously popular and successful Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire. Particularly interesting is his discussion of the Bollywood-style dance sequence during the end credits, one of my favorite parts (don’t front like you didn’t dance in the theater!) Apparently (and ironically) enough, London-born actor Dev Patel (who plays Jamil) wasn’t exactly Fred Astaire when filming for the dance sequence begun, but picked up some moves with practice. So well done, Dev Patel! You, and the entire cast, rocked our worlds!

Boyle discusses the inspiration behind the scene:

“Working in Mumbai…everybody dances. It’s as natural as singing a song in the shower on your own, or humming a tune going around in your head. It’s just the most natural thing in the world to do.”

Agreed.

What’s next for the man behind such an eclectic array of films? In regards to his film making process, Boyle is a self-described project driven director. Rather than having a multitude of projects, he prefers to immerse himself in “one thing at a time.” (quote from clip) So we’ll just have to wait and see what he cooks up next…

Extra, Extra! Karmaloop Needs Beautiful People for Wale/Lady Gaga Video Shoot

Karmaloop, AKA the most addictive retail site on the internet, recently sent an email blast to its loyal customers calling for extras for a Wale/Lady Gaga video shoot going down in Boston this coming Monday, May 4th. Wale is one of the dopest rappers out right now and is preparing to release his first studio album. Gaga needs no explanation, of course. But before you get your panties all in a bunch, there ARE some requirements: Karmaloop is looking for volunteers who “look fly and dress fly, are good-looking, have a unique style, and wear Karmaloop gear.”  So basically, all of you M.I.S.S. readers out there are covered.

The shoot is all day Monday and although there is no pay, Karmaloop promises an abundance of free food, fun, and fame – or at least 15 minutes of fame! If you didn’t get chosen for The Real World or are still sour about how that American Idol audition went down, this might be your chance to shine. At least get Wale’s number for me! Or crack up with the hilarious Amanda Diva! Send your name, height, weight, email address, cell phone number, and pictures to: gio@karmaloop.com and to boss@elitaste.com.

Good Luck, and if you make it big because of this, don’t forget to mention that M.I.S.S. sent ya!

Say No to Overagressive Marketing!

The views expressed in this post are solely the views of The Hotstepper and do not necessarily reflect the views of other M.I.S.S. Crew members and administrators.

I’m not one to write-by rant much, but today I have officially had enough with the overagressive marketing tactics from Karmaloop. You see, I got this text message this afternoon offering me a 20% off coupon code, which probably doesn’t seem like that big a deal, except that I have to pay for all incoming and outgoing text messages, and I never gave them permission to contact me in this manner. It’s not enough that I am constantly bombarded with their ads and coupon codes in my e-mail, on myspace, facebook, various websites I visit, and from their reps posting all over message boards and other websites I frequent. I know my broken Nokia from the year 1812 is advertising that yeah, I could probably use some major discounts in my life, and I am well aware that you barely ever have to pay full price for anything on their website - and in fact have taken advantage of that whenever they’ve had something I needed/wanted to buy. But the fact of the matter is, the privacy policy stated on their website reads as such:

Uses of Information

We use the information we collect from you for billing purposes and to fill your orders. We do not store your credit card information. If you have created a Username and Password to the site or if you have signed up to receive our Email Newsletter updates we may use your purchase history to personalize special offers and promotions. These offers and promotions will be delivered to you in the form of an email newsletter.

and in no way, shape, or form, no matter how creative your imagination, is a text message sent to a cellular phone number an e-mail newsletter.

Some of you might be saying “slow your roll Hotstepper! It’s just 20 cents worth of text message!” but I think it’s a big deal because in this day and age with increased invasive technology and identity theft, If I have willingly trusted a company with my private information, and they promise to keep it safe, and only use it as they have legally stated, and they do not, I am going to take issue with that. And beside this issue, in the past I have had other problems with Karmaloop’s marketing team, and don’t like their constant and overagressive need to tap into scenes and markets that if you’ve been entrenched in, it’s quite obvious that they are kind of clueless about, and approach like the final segment of supermarket sweep where you grab the giant meats, diapers, and the macadamia nuts because, staples - every contestant ever always does, and then throw everything else in the store in your cart because now you’ve ensured that your checkout total is going to be high. So here’s how I roll: today officially marks the day that I will unbecome a Karmaloop customer, period. I don’t care if they are the last place on earth to buy, or have the best price on that limited edition wangdoodle that I coveted, they will not get one more penny of my money. Kisses.
