M.I.S.S. loves Insa and his heels but his latest project has us in a cold sweat - no pun intended!  Sweden’s most famous destination, IceHotel, builds a new hotel each winter just 200 km above the Arctic Circle.   The IceHotel, inspired by Igloos, takes a different shape each year, and every winter new artists are asked to come and chisel their mark in the hotel made completely of ice and snow.  This year, Insa created one of the suites in the IceHotel and his boudoir features his iconic heels in solid ice.  They’re crystal clear, beautifully lit and impressively tall.  It’s truly a winter wonderland brought to life.  Read the full story to seem more photos.

We mentioned a few months back that Insa had a project going with Chicago-based House of Bias, creators of rubber clothing.  We finally got a sneak peak of what’s to come in the most recent issue of Acclaim Magazine from down unda.  The clothing features Insa’s signature pattern worked into a buffalo plaid-esque pattern in vibrant fuchsia and teal.  Pieces include tops, shorts and leggings - these are one pair of leggings that won’t bunch up! Insa states:

In this first ‘Cholala’ collection you can see an exploration into real cultural fetishism.  Taking classic streetwear styles and applying it to high end rubber clothing couture.

When did your fascination with women’s heels begin?

Well I started painting heels about 5years ago. It began when I noticed I could spell my name in the shapes of high heels! After a bit I started to just focus on the heel itself as I realized what a power symbol it is.

What is it about heels that inspires you?

So much about heels inspires me- the shape of the object itself, the effect it has on a woman’s posture. The fact they represent so much to many different kinds of people- money, power, sex, fashion, the battle between male and female sexuality, dominance and submission, fetishism, consumer obsession.

INSA’s world is one where fetishism, desire and graffiti collide; through extensive street level work and fine art INSA has taken the iconic high heel image and made it his own, infusing a simple, yet clever, graphic ‘logo’ with meaning and relevance. High heels represent a myriad of different things to different people; sex, money, fashion, the battle between masculine and feminine sexuality, dominant and submissive, consumerism and object fetishism; all of which are themes actively explored in INSA’s work. Heels themselves are often, of course, objects of desire and objets d’art in their own right.

The fantasy of ‘INSA HEELS’ is now a reality…
