Long Live McQueen: The Show Must Go On

Long Live McQueen - The Brand Must Go On

WWD just reported that PPR/The Gucci Group, the company that has a 51% stake in the Alexander McQueen brand has decided to continue the McQueen label.

Robert Polet, the president and CEO of Gucci Group stated: “We believe in the future of the brand…Lee was very proud of the people working in his company, and so am I.”

McQueen’s A/W 2010 collection will still be shown in Paris in a few weeks.

All designers have assistants – I’m just wondering who will take the helm of Alexander McQueen.  Will they promote an assistant?  Or bring in a big name?  Either way, I’m interested to see who will be named – I can’t really imagine anyone doing a brand as visionary as Alexander McQueen any justice.  Time will tell.  Who do you think should be named the designer of Alexander McQueen?

Gap, Inc is looking to expand their designer collaboration portfolio tapping Stella McCartney to design a capsule collection for the GapKids and babyGap sector. The line will hit store late 2009 and be sold in select stores in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, France Ireland, and Japan. It will also be available online in the US. The Gap operates 3,100 stores in the aforementioned countries with plans to increase thier international reach through franchise agreements in the Far East, Latin America, the Middle East, and across Europe.

“For years I’ve wanted to create a collection for kids,” she said. “It’s something I’ve often been asked about. I believe that this one-off collaboration will be a great way for customers to be able to participate in the Stella McCartney brand. I believe that kids’ clothing should be more accessibly priced, which is particularly important at the moment, given the current climate.”

The McCartney brand currently generally carries women’s ready-to-wear, footwear, bags, fragrances, eyewear, accessories, and Care skin care. In the past, McCartney has worked with H&M and is in her second season with her adidas by Stella McCartney line. The H&M release drew a frenzy among the young fashion set. The adidas line proves that she can deliver both performance and function. The design house has been operating since 2001 in a joint venture with the Gucci Group.

Khaki’s and cotton shirts will never go out of style, we just need a little reminder sometimes. The Gap lured in this years CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nominees, which include Alexander Wang and Vena Cava, to recreate the classic khaki fabric. This is the kind of retail innovation we like to see! Expect that to hit stores June 16th.
