Sounds like an excellent recipe if you ask me! What came first, the friendship or the business? Well in this case, Zarie Mueller and Jen Armstrong, are two friends that made their love of vintage clothing, fashion and travel, their business. And once it was decided that their love and passion for these things should be something greater they gave it a name…Wanderlust Vintage.

The Goods!: Friendship + Vintage Clothing = Wanderlust Vintage. More of my favorite picks from the Wanderlust on-line store: Givenchy Couture dress, Robert Clergerie loafers, bling blazer and Christian Dior Boyfriend jacket.

They had no idea how well things would go. They set out on roads trips through North America, gathered up goodies, brought them back to NYC and opened a Pop Up Shop to sell their finds. The shop was decorated with a travel theme using old suitcases as props and vintage photography to decorate and give shoppers a sense of where the items traveled from. They knew they had something good but what they didn’t expect was for things to go so well and as would luck would have it this one-off idea became a full on business. Now, these gals are no strangers to the business world. Jen is part owner of The Dove Parlour and Zarie as former co-owner of the Lower East Sides, LeeLush. These business minded ladies followed their hearts to create a world of the things they love. Enjoy exploring the world of Wanderlust.

Not just for the likes of Sherlock Holmes, the cape has turned up more than once on some of the industry’s top designer’s sketch pads for Fall 2010. Don’t fear this silhouette! The designers took different takes on this this retro shape. From traditional styles with welted arm slits to the to-die-for over sized poncho-esque (I said “esque”, poncho’s get a bad wrap, um pun intended) Barbour/Belstaff inspired creation from Viktor & Rolf, you can go goth with Valentino or lady like chic with Sonia Rykiel. See, something for everyone! You could even get away with an a-line shaped coat or jacket set on your shoulders…instant cape! So you have your motorcycle jacket, you’re getting your trench coat and now planning to top off your outerwear collection with a cape. You have about 5-6 more months to get used to this idea. Don’t be scared.

Ears To The Street: Bras, Bustiers and Blazers. Let Your "Girls" Be Free.

Ears To The Street: Bras, Bustiers and Blazers. Let Your "Girls" Be Free.

What season is this anyway? We should be transitioning into Fall but this schizophrenic weather as of late has us keeping our tank tops and sandals at arms reach all while we plan out our Fall wardrobe?!?! Ugh. 90+ degree days followed by monsoon rain storms makes dressing a difficult task these days. Fortunately you can transition into Fall while keeping it cool for those hot nights still ahead all while looking season appropriate…whatever that means.

Lingerie is always “in”, a necessity sure but lust worthy as well and with so much inspiration being taken from your underwear drawer for Fall you’re already a step in the right direction. My favorite look is pairing a bustier or bra with a blazer…you can wear this look with shorts, skirts, trousers, leggings…depending on the weather outside you can be on trend without looking like a ninny freezing your checks off. Here are some of our favorite looks and intimate apparel that you might let peek out from under. Let your “girls” be free…those sexy little numbers aren’t just for the bedroom.

1. Deborah Marquit 2. Kiki De Montparnasse 3. Bordelle 4. Agent Provocateur 5.-7. Cresentini 8. Fleet Ilya

Fall 09 Collections from Left to Right: Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton, Hussein Chalayan, AlessandroDell’Acqua, and Givenchy.

M.I.S.S. Couture: Givenchy Fall 2009

M.I.S.S. Couture: Givenchy Fall 2009

I know it’s been all over the interweb but did you really think I didn’t have anything to say about this?? Hello Chains! I love – I want – I need. I’ve definitely been channeling Mr. T and piling on the chains lately but Givenchy brought new meaning to “piling on chains.”  It’s as if the chains aren’t acting as necklaces but more as armor or tops, in and of themselves.

For Fall 2009 Riccardo Tisci was inspired by Morocco and Berber tribespeople, and this came through in the beading patterns and veiled silhouettes.  There were lots of interesting silhouettes featuring lush fabrics like velvet and leather.  It was a small collection, and you already know the scene stealer were the models in chains.  When I first saw the images, I thought the pieces on the face were also jewelery, but upon further inspection, the models had sequins applied to their skin.  I wonder how long that took to apply?!  Check our more of my favorites in the gallery…

Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara

Givenchy introduces a revolutionary new mascara designed to grip at lashes starting at the roots.

The uniquely round brush has a high-tech, patented sphere at the tip of the precision wand that reached every lash and adapts to all eye shapes. The result is a beautifully, fanned out panoramic effect, holding the curve of your lashes perfectly in place.

This brush is so crazy that I definitely want to give this a try. Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes Mascara is available exclusively at Sephora.

Hint Magazine – Drawing Blood

hint magazine drawing blood
Hint Magazine featured some high-end looks by Givenchy, Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent and more in an illustrated multi-media presentation called Drawing Blood. The feature is illustrated by kuanth and the flash design was done by RenderMonkey. You can choose the music that plays in the background as well. The illustrations feature wide-eyed girls (very Blythe-esque with different colored eyes) and creatures wearing the must-have pieces of the coming season. You can watch Drawing Blood here.

Fall 08 Couture Round-Up

Elie Saab Couture Fall 08

The Fall 08 Couture shows have come in gone in a whirlwind of exquisite draping, beading, and embroidery. The couture shows are always the most fun to watch because they are the most theatrical, the most dramatic, the most artistic. The Fall shows did not disappoint. I already posted about Chanel and Valentino, but here’s a round up of highlights and some of my favorite looks from Armani Prive, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Lacroix, and Elie Saab.

Fancy Footwork: Designer Jellies!

Jelly shoes have sure come a long way since the 80’s! Thanks to original Brazilian jelly brands Melissa and Alexandre Herchcovitch , the jelly has gone through many transformations and has become its own category in footwear.

This year luxury designers are hopping on the jelly trend and are not disappointing! Earlier this month I reported about the F08 collabo between Melissa X Vivienne Westwood. Muito quente! If your jonesing for some designer jelly shoes now, no need to fret because some of our favorite brands are offering up their own version of the jelly this spring.

Top Right: Gucci, $150, Top Left: Givenchy, $165, Bottom Right: Fendi, $175, Bottom Left: Marc Jacobs, $160

And remember, aside from being super cute and affordable, jellies are waterproof and vegan friendly!
