On Saturday, September 6th, the much awaited Colette x Gap pop-up shop on 54th & 5th opened to the public at 10 am. I didn’t make it to the store until 12:30, and I figured that by that time any line would have been over and done with. I was wrong. Very wrong. The line went around the block. I took my place and prepared myself to be there a while. Luckily, the Labor Day parade was making its way down 5th Avenue and the music and chants of the union workers made the time pass a bit faster. Two hours and a dirty water dog later, I finally made it into the shop.
The first thing I saw was the Alexis Mabille x GapGreyJersey bow purse (pictured below) and I was in handbag heaven. I grabbed a purse and made my way around the shop to see all the product and tried to decide what else to get. I decided on the bow purse, a mug and a notebook. Some of the products were already sold out when I got there (about 4 hours into the shop being open!). There were only a few pairs of the Repetto GapGreyJersey ballet flats and I saw a woman pick up the last of the Longchamp Pliage GapGreyJersey bags. The Kangol GapGreyJersey (pictured below) are marked as “coming soon” on the site but they were already out. Even though they were limiting the amount of people in the shop it was still a bit chaotic - you could feel the anxious shoppers nervously going through product and trying to decide what to get before it was snatched by someone faster. I documented the shop as best I can and you can check out more pics of product after the jump.
The Colette x Gap is open until October 5, 2008.

Inez is one of the M.IS.S interns and she spends 3 days a week with me in the kitchen, I mean, M.I.S.S. HQ. I figured we’d switch stuff up and show you all the cute outfits we see on the daily. Inez came in looking this stylee without any warning of photos being taken.Â
Here’s what she had to say about what inspired her outfit:
I was listening to Digable Planets and felt urban and sporty. But it was a hot and sunny day, so jeans were out of the question. I chose the bright, flowy skirt to celebrate summer and the Little Brown Girl tee with a vest for the sportyness. The heels were perfect because they weren’t too girly and are comfy to walk up and down the S.F. Hills. So basically, I was inspired by the music of Digable Planets and the summer day.Â
Take a look at the rest of the outfit after the jump. . .
Skirt: Silk Wrap Skirt, Ethnix

Gap teamed up with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists to create variations of the classic Gap white shirt. The designers include Three As Four, Philip Lim, Michael Bastian and Band of Outsiders. The interpretations are unique and include, among other styles, a shirt dress, western-style shirt and bell-sleeve shirt. The site features small video clip interviews with each of the designers and gives insight into the project. The shirts are available online here.

It’s finally here:
The Pierre Hardy limited-edition collection of sandals for Gap.
Pierre designed six different styles of sandals ranging in prices from $78 to $98. This weekend, we ventured into our local G-store to check the designs out in person, and what we found kind of surprised us.
First, there was no one as excited as us in the entire store. No one. In fact, we drew a few stink eyes from customers who just coulnd’t understand our excitement over the hundred dollar sandals that nobody else was drooling over but us — like a bunch of chicks who just found a pair of Marc Jacob jelly sandals for 50% off in our size.
And why might that be? None of the sandals had Pierre’s name on them. They all were branded with Gap’s Design Edition. Strange, no? Of course, the Frenchman designed the shoes. And anybody who has been patiently awaiting his “affordable collection to hit stateside knows this as well. But the average non-Balenciaga worshiping customer doesn’t know this. And isn’t this the demographic Gap is trying to lure back into their store?
With no major advertising about the collaboration, why does Gap expect customers to pay a hundred dollars for a pair of sandals? If we didn’t know Pierre was behind the design, we wouldn’t.
Oh, well. This just means we’ll be able to catch the rest of the sandals on sale. Yay!

I honestly have to say, Gap is seriously boring…even when they tapped Roland Mouret to design a few dresses it was still not doing it for many of us. They’re good for basics and once in awhile you’ll find something in there but its not somewhere I’ll go shop often. With the competition of UNIQLO releasing collaborations with different designers every month, they don’t stand a chance. They finally stepped up and announced that there will be a limited edition collection for women called Gap Design Editions by Doo-Ri Chung , Thakoon Panichgul and Rodarte’s Kate & Laura Mulleavy .
The limited edition designs will be sold starting on April 17th in 100 larger Gap stores. This definitely is a good boost for the tired image of Gap . Don’t expect to see all different kinds of colors and designs, the project is simple, create white shirts…the products will not have the designers names on the tags but will appear will appear in ads to make it easily identifiable to customers. I still strongly disagree with this, I’d prefer the name of the designer on the tags.
The project is an offshoot of Gap ’s partnership with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund announced last month to introduce up-and-coming designers to a broader audience by arranging for winners to design limited edition pieces for Gap .
In a statement Tuesday, Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour said, “Vogue has a long tradition of supporting young talent — in particular, our local talent — to secure a brilliant future for American fashion. And Gap ’s Design Editions project…will give a boost to the three CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners, and bring their wonderful designs to a much bigger audience.
I luv collaborations and white shirts are great for work…I’m liking the Thakoon design already. I can’t wait to see the full collection of whites! via wwd
