B-Side Jewelry

Enamel, silver, brass… there’s something about these elements that calls to mind the jewelry of a women in her 50’s decked in bangles, rings, huge eyeglass frames, and a bright windbreaker suit on her way to a game of bingo (active imagination, much?). Those very elements are what jewelry designers Ken Leung and  Dana Chin use to create their eclectic line of earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets. Ken and Dana’s line B-Side is “jewelry remixed” with shapes, colors and images pulling from the advent of hip-hop and graffiti as an art form during NYC’s cultural revolution in the 80’s.

B-Side Jewelry

The jewelry is fun yet refined with designs that include brass plate pendants on multi-chain necklaces, unique “handcuff” bracelets, chandelier earrings with precious rough-cut stones, and cocktail rings. Many of the pieces from the Graffiti collection feature graffiti tags that read “Legalize art,” “art crimez,” and “onefortyfivesixty.” B-Side’s Cube collection uses the cube to create geometric styles that cascade and overlap. And since most of the jewelry is hand-made, there’s less chance of another girl having the same exact jewelry which makes for a truly unique piece. The jewelry line also includes tie-clips, cuff links and money clips that could work for both women and men that want to liven up the business attire.

Johnny Cupcakes Earrings

Blueberry Cream Cheese, Chocolate Raspberry, Black Forest, Red Velvet, Strawberry Sprinkle, and Key Lime, to go please. Sounds tasty right? No, we aren’t at the bakery, it’s just Johnny Cupcakes serving up a 1/2 dozen set of stud earrings. Nothing like some non perishables in the mix! I was delighted to find these Manimal earrings waiting for me when I got home today. Manimal is a line of moccasins and accessories sparked by designer Kristen Lombardi’s interest in traditional costumes and animal forms. Her process is driven by a deep appreciation for the almost forgotten world of artisan crafts and craftsmanship. All pieces are hand made by a team of no more than three craftspeople. In an attempt to best use precious materials, leather scraps are recycled and reworked within the Manimal family. The suede earrings are adorable but my favorite part is the packaging - it’s so clever! Many thanks to Manimal!

The other day, I got a surprise message in my inbox from a gorgeous lady named Nena. Inside were pictures of fabulous earrings - bamboo style made of richly-patterned fabrics - that she makes herself. After being floored by the craft(wo)manship, I clicked on her Myspace page and saw that this talented lady has so much more to offer than the few pictures of accessories she included. Lady Bird SF updated her website and you’re now able to purchase her signature crane earrings online! The new site is really cute and fancy lookin’…but no worries because it’s really easy to navigate. At the bottom of the home page, Lady Bird SF has a new feature that let’s you purchase a cd, the first one being none other than Hopie Spitshard : The Diamond Dame!

 I am a huge fan of earrings. My motto is “the bigger the better”. And my most favorite is long and dangling or huge and hoop like. Well Fleathers by Linda Smyth gives me all that I need and in leather. Leather “feathers” that dangle and huge leather hoops, heart shaped too…I think I’m in love!
