Major Lazer: Hold The Line

Major Lazer

Major Lazer

Producer/DJ’s Diplo and Switch have put their “post modern songwriting” abilities together to create an exciting new venture with, Major Lazer.

They’ve got a dope track out right now called “Hold the Line”  featuring Mr. Lex and Santigold. If you haven’t heard it yet, check it. The track has an animated video which features an extremely muscular Jamaican commando riding a surfboard through outer space with laser beams coming from one arm to blast blood-thirsty zombies. It’s action-packed and, somehow, the video and song blends to appropriate this alternative dancehall sound.

We Got The Beat: Right on Rye Rye

We Got The Beat: Right on Rye Rye

It’s about time the Baltimore-bred MC and dance party guru Rye Rye (Ryeisha Berrain) got some attention. This 18-year old girlie was the first artist signed to M.I.A.’s N.E.E.T Records, and as far as I see it, bringing back the fun of dance routines and booty-shaking. Her heavy bass, catchy lyrics, and conceptual style is reminiscent of the earlier, more enjoyable days of Hip-Hop. No wonder she’s partnered up with the none other than the creative “Bamboo Banga” herself- MISS Rye Rye has an image that compliments the past, present, and future of refreshing young talent, especially in the context of upcoming young female artists.

Diplo, Afrikan Boy, and Baltimore rapper Blaqstarr are just a few of the artists who have collaborated on Rye Rye’s music. If you need to get a download now “Shake It To The Ground” ft Blaqstarr is available on iTunes and at the end of this summer you can catch her live August 7 at Lollapalooza 2009!!

We Got The Beat: Amanda Blank…Might Like You Better

Sweatheart member and Philadelphia MC MISS Amanda Blank is a fabulous woman who often refers to herself as a tranny and isn’t afraid to talk dirty. Now that she has taken the time out to work on her solo career after being signed to label Downtown Records (Kid Sister, Mos Def, and Santigold) her music is making its way into the spotlight. And FYI, listen to her tracks with caution because these songs have the potential to cause serious eargasm.

Amanda’s lyrical content and gritty appeal illustrates her talent to be sexually charged and full of energy. She sets her explicit tone with the release of her first single “Might Like You Better.” Her debut album I Love You set to be out this summer already has artists like Ghostface Killah, M.I.A., Flosstradamus, and Santigold giving Amanda the A-OKAY so you know it’s gonna be hot!! Amanda Blank has become recognized for her projects with Aaron LaCrate, Spank Rock, Lykke Li,  Plastic Little and artists Switch, Xxxchange, and Diplo are already getting their hands in the producing for MISS Blank’s summer release.
