Diesel recently celebrated the launch for it’s new fragrance Only The Brave in New York City and Miami, with an art expo by design firm The KDU. Extremely talented artists from around the world created works that interpreted their meaning of bravery in a myriad of forms from intricate illustrations, to photographs, and the solid form.

Diesel Only The Brave Fragrance Bottle

This new fragrance was named after Diesel founder Renzo Rosso’s identically named Italian holding company and his charitable foundation, and the bottle is modeled after his fist. As far as the fragrance goes, it is said to bravely play with opposites, starting with a note of leather, but lightened with lemon and broken with dry woody cedar notes and amber. The ad campaign features hip hop favorite Common, and launched with a creative multimedia microsite, Is Brave, that evokes the aspects of bravery in your mind, heart and nerves.

But more about the art! There were works featured by Chuck Anderson, Matt W. Moore, Lynnette Astaire, Si Scott, Nigel Dennis, Sandra Chi, Ronald Wimberly, Rochambeau, Jared Ryder, Justin Maller, Holly Bynoe, Janbakon Robson, and Edgar Gonzalez to name a few, and I tried  my best to capture the artist and country of origin of every artist, but the party was so crowded I couldn’t always get to it.

55DSL’s SS09 collection is here and dripping in color - bright, fluorescent, endless color! It comes as no surprise that the collection, inspired by a surreal seaside paradise light years away from earth, looks like what clothes would after an LSD trip. “The Fifth Dimension,” as the collection is called, is meant for stylish ladies who want a “higher state of mind,” who have no problems rockin’ super wide leg denim pants, tie-dye swimsuits, fringed hem tees or neon green shorts. There are a variety of tops and bottoms that pull from sport, street, and military styles. The dip-dyed windbreaker jackets are undeniably street and the bold neon prints infuse that surf flair that 55DSL is known for. One of the best things about the collection is the different shapes, colors and finishes the bottoms come in: distressed overalls, harem sweats, playful skirts, it’s all there. Then there’s the sporty dresses and over-sized off-the-shoulder sweatshirts that make for great cover-ups on the beach or for strolling on the street.

M.I.A. performed recently at Diesel’s XXX party in NYC where she surprised the crowd with a baby bump!  Yep, M.I.A. will be adding “mama” to her resume.  Check out the video from Last Night’s Party below where she sings one of her “bangas” and shakes her bump.

Sophia Kokosalaki, better known for her intricate pleating and draping, will be launching small collection of black denim pieces. Her company was recently bought by the owner of Diesel, Renzo Rosso, and I’m sure that may have just a little to do with the designer’s new exploration of denim. It seems to be a good fit, Ms. Kokosalaki stated, “I wear denim all the time and I always wear black.” The collection includes “jackets, miniskirts, trousers and shorts - [and] will feature her signature stand-out stitching for a ’sophisticated London street-style feel,’ [Kokosalaki] adds.” The pieces will cost a pretty penny ranging from $386 and $1,236. I, too, wear a lot of denim and always wear black so I can’t wait to see what these pieces will look like.

Earlier this year Diesel introduced their fragrance Fuel for Life. The team of designers for the fragrance had this to say:

“We began by imagining scents that are a sort of secret potion for a new generation developed in a hidden laboratory,� said Renzo. “We envisioned something, a power, known only to a chosen few that finally made it to the Diesel planet. This mix of retro imagination with a futuristic outlook is Fuel for Life.�

For the next four years Adidas Originals and Diesel has joined forces to develop a new project: Adidas Originals Denim by Diesel.

Adidas Originals Denim by Diesel consists of two styles for both men and women and will be available exclusively at Adidas Originals stores worldwide. One style for women features a slightly elevated waist with a slight boot cut available in two different washes. The second style, in black denim, offers a chic alternative. The codesigned range boasts the Adidas Originals Trefoil and the Diesel branding. Retail prices range from 160 euros, or approximately $237 at current exchange, for the women’s jeans, up to 210 euros, or $311 for men’s styles.
