The Goods!: Old Stock Eyewear Finds New Life In Viva Las Vegas

Hands down, vintage eyewear wins. Designers of today are constantly being “inspired” by shapes of eye wear gone by. Why not have the original, real deal and know that the chances of you running into someone wearing the same frames as yours will be slim to none. While making our trade show rounds in Las Vegas last week, we stopped by two of our favorites, Replay Vintage and Rare Eyewear. Both companies specialize in vintage new-old-stock or deadstock eye wear. Feast your peepers on the selection of vintage designer frames.

M.I.S.S. Vegas 02.09: Boos & Besito at Pool

Taking the word for “kiss” from each of their native languages partners Rana Shoar and Alejandra Hernandez, formed Boos & Besito…Boos comes from the Farsi language and Besito is Spanish. An eclectic mix of handmade goodies, Shoar and Hernandez offer up items made of recycled and deadstock vintage fabrics. No item retails for over $30, Hernandez explained this was a “recession reaction”…thank-you ladies, our wallets appreciate it! This was their first time showing the line and from the looks of things I think we’ll be seeing more from these ladies. From “Shoe Blooms”, fabric flowers for your footwear to bows for your hair, fringed trimmed scarves to slouchy “Booties” you’re sure to find something you love! For inquires on where to find, email the ladies at boosandbesito@gmail.com, tell them M.I.S.S. sent you ;)

Replay Vintage specializes in deadstock eye-wear. One of our favorite stops at the Pool show, it’s like going back in time! Spanning from “hip to hippie,” Replay Vintage literally offers hundreds of styles from Wayfarer looks to Cazal-esque stunner shades. In the vintage business since 1985, you can visit the kind gents behind Replay Vintage at their store, LaBomba Vintage in Long Beach or Pamona.

M.I.S.S. December 2008

nail art
“Walking in a winter wonderland” . . . Ok, well maybe not in these deadstock L.A. Gears. And, as much as we love snow covered streets, snow is most certainly not a friend to your precious kicks. We like the cold that comes with these winter months as long as we are snuggled up by a cozy fire where we can keep ourselves, and our kicks, dry and warm. Perhaps with a cup of hot cocoa with tiny marshmallows, like M.I.S.S. December’s thumbnail perhaps? However you do it this holiday season, do it with your nail kit tiiiiiight! We wish you, yours and your kicks the happiest and healthiest of holidays, and much love and new sneakers in the coming year!

I Wear My Sunglasses At Night . . .

I’ve always been a big fan of glasses since I need to wear them to see but this Spring the eyes are taking the cake. There are an endless amount of options with retro throwbacks like Ray Bans and Lolita heart glasses playing a big part. Linda Farrow Vintage, a brand founded in the 70s by Linda Farrow, was resurrected by Linda’s son in 2003 when he found a stash of his mother’s deadstock vintage frames. The brand has an impressive account list, press and celebrity following and they are adding to their pedigree by teaming up with some of the world’s leading fashion designers to create really unique, whimsical eyewear. I don’t normally wear my sunglasses at night, but if I had any of these, I may have to start.
