Dark Horse: “Maria” Robot Leggings Sneak Peek

Dark Horse: "Maria" Robot Leggings Sneak Peak

We’ve been long time fans of Dark Horse and Andrew was kind enough to share a sneak peek of a pair of his new leggings – the “Maria” Robot Legging. Inspired by the Fritz Lang, 1920’s sci-fi movie Metropolis, these poly-stretch leggings will be released as part of the Dark Horse Spring 10 Collection.

Leggings have been really popular for the past few years but I have to say, these may take the cake as far as innovativeness and creativity. They are amazing – I can’t wait to see the rest of the collection!

Darkhorse SS09: “Hot To Trot”

We gave you a sneak-peak of the Darkhorse SS09 collection during our tradeshow coverage in Las Vegas in August, peep it here. They’ve just released the lookbook for their Spring collection, entitled “Hot to Trot”. Now based in Toronto and the UK, Darkhorse pulled inspiration from “the undeniable charm of Paris, and the glitz and glam of high-fashion.” You can see inspiration from top luxury brands in the graphics . . . which we all have to agree speaks directly to us ladies! Taking women’s streetwear to a level of luxury, you’ll want to wrap yourself in the “Bastille” leather bomber jacket . . . available in aqua, purple, yellow and black and made of fine Italian lambskin. Always an eye for detail, the “Nouveau Riche” hoody includes an Eiffel Tower zipper-pull and the “Part Time Lover” Stevie Wonder inspired t-shirt takes inspiration from a time when Stevie rocked his hair braided and beaded, genius! What I appreciate most about Darkhorse is the way the designs speak to us ladies, from a place of luxury brand hunger to offering sexy but not over-sexed  graphics, they do an excellent job at evoking strong confident women (um, where the models pants at ;) ) Stating this to be their “most extensive collection to date”, we are head over heels for Darkhorse and most certainly know we’ll be feeling “Hot To Trot” rocking any of these styles.

See more after the jump!

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: “Designer” Street Wear

A lot of street wear tees are usually based around the idea of “playing” with a famous logo or piece of art.  It’s not a new concept, people have been doing it forever.  Everything from Tide (early Freshjive) to Warhol portraits (1/2 the brands out there) have been given a twist to further the message of small brands.  The tees I saw in Vegas were no different – but I did feel like there was a giant increase in the number of tees touting very high end brands.  This too is not new, but I felt that this time around there were so many more.  Maybe it’s the economy crunch?  Can’t afford real YSL but I can feel close to the brand by wearing a tee with it’s logo?  Or, maybe it’s a t-shirt brands way of aligning itself with what it thinks is cool, for example, girls that like Chanel should like my brand.  Whatever it is, there were a million (not quite, but almost) of these “designer” tees – I didn’t take pics of most of them but I’d be confident in saying that almost half of the clothing brands we looked at had some kind of designer reference – Chanel and Karl being the most used.  We even saw a shoe that made a designer reference.

Oh, and by the way, word on the street is that Fucking Awesome is coming back and re-issuing the Karl Lagerfeld “Gangsta Situations” tee (Yay!) – you heard it here first.  Check out more pics after the jump . . . .

M.I.S.S. Vegas Review: Darkhorse at MAGIC/SLATE

We’ve posted about Darkhorse for some time now, but I finally got to meet Andrew, the designer, last week at Slate.  Andrew has designed several solid collections but I can easily say that his was one of the best lines I saw last week.  He’s really bringing it for the ladies with really clever graphics, embellishments and leather jackets.  He’s brought back the beaded tees (yes!) and not only does it look (and sound) amazing, but it’s also a reference to Stevie Wonder and his braids – the shirt reads “Part Time Lover” – clever on so many levels!  He’s also got one of the best “designer” t-shirts I’ve seen – a tee with a caricature of John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Karl Lagerfeld (psssst Andrew, I NEED this shirt).  That’s not all he has for the ladies who know their labels.  There’s more Chanel and Louboutin references.  I’m also a sucker for tromp l’oeil and Darkhorse has a really cute “purse” graphic.  Last but not least, Darkhorse introduces some cut & sew pieces including a Paris hoodie complete with Eiffel Tower zipper pull and buttery soft leather jackets in candy colors and satin linings – I need one of those too.  Check out the craziness after the jump.

Enter the DarkHorse

darkhorse
It’s always exciting to hear about new brands on the block – especially when they’re bringing something new to the table. Enter . . Darkhorse. The collection includes pieces for men and women and well, I’ll just let them tell you . . .

Definition
(darkhorse): A person about whom little is known, esp. someone whose abilities and potential for success are concealed.

Brand
Whilst paying homage to the street, Darkhorse flirts with the higher-end boutique,
a juxtaposition of clean lines and simplicity, to far-out and avant-garde. The Darkhorse
aesthetic is drawn from a palette ranging from classic hiphop to political punk, and
presents pieces that are both low-key and loud in their statement. Cut and sew comes
first, as streetwear essentials are given an understated runway touch. We are a unisex
brand, with many styles translated for both men and women.

History
Darkhorse is the brainchild of brothers Andrew and Jaime Randle. Though this is to be our first year, designer Andrew has years of fashion experience under his belt. Jaime runs a very successful animation company, whose clients include Nike, Coke, Eminem and Ice T.

Any company that does a shirt with a Van Halen reference is cool by me. You can find Darkhorse at select stores including: Overkill (berlin), Cultist (LA), Goodfoot (canada-wide), Exclusive (Hawaii), Up Against The Wall (USA-wide), and D-Boxxx (Japan). And, if you want to keep tabs on the Darkhorse World check out their blog.
