Ever imagine cracking jokes where Tina Fey once stood?  Think you’re funny enough to follow in Steve Carell’s footsteps?  PUMA and The Second City’s Outreach and Diversity Program are seeking fresh talent to apply for The PUMA “LOL” Scholarship.  Created as part of an effort to increase diversity among the improv community, the scholarship will provide five budding comedians in both Chicago and LA with one year’s worth of training through Second City, the world’s premier comedy theatre and school of improvisation. The Second City is credited with launching the careers of comedians like Fey and Carell, as well as John Belushi, Mike Myers, and Bill Murray and through The PUMA “LOL” Scholarship, PUMA and The Second City hope to unleash the talents and potentially ignite the careers of the genre’s new rising stars.

Vans Kick-Ass!

This just in!  The Kick-Ass heroes are jumping out of comic books and into movie theaters near you.  But first- catch the heroes and all of their glory at the new Vans store in Austin this Saturday, March 13 from 5-6PM.  They’ll be signing autographs and sharing some super hero secrets.  What secrets could they be?

THE KICK-ASS SNEAKER!

These kicks kick ass.  You can’t go wrong with the classic Era style mixed up with the Kick-Ass colors and logo.  But not just anyone is going to have the power to rock these in the streets, because these babies are limited edition and not being sold in stores.  Just like super heroes, not just anyone can be fighting evil- or can they?

Custom Culture is a nationwide art & design talent contest for high school art classes utilizing Vans sneakers as the canvas for their creative talents.  The Vans Custom Culture contest culminates with an expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles in May for representatives from four schools from different regions of the US to take part in an art showcase and we hope that the program will create awareness for the importance of high school programs in an age of shrinking budgets for the arts, while at the same time inspiring young artists and designers.  In addition to the showcase in Los Angeles, an online gallery will exhibit the complete collection of submissions for the world to see.  Vans will also award the the winning school a grand prize pack for their class including Vans products, tickets to the Vans Warped Tour in their area and a $10,000 donation to their school’s art program.

Project Runway Season 7 is just around the corner and back in the Big Apple. With the promise of new challenges, eccentric contestants, and drama, it looks like season 7 will definitely be one to watch. It’s always exciting to see the aesthetic of each designer unfold as they go through the challenges. After a quick view of the designer portfolios, I’ve already got a favorite–Amy Sarabi’s work is impeccable! But of course, I’ll have to wait until the show begins to see if she’ll be that one you love to hate, because when the competition gets going, the lengths people go to win can get intense.
